It's a big day for our extended family today. My sister-in-law's Mum, my wife's other Mum for the last 40+ years, is getting her long awaited results today after various tests have showed something is present in her blood markers but they haven't been able to find where it is after a number of scans. Just fingers crossed its not serious and its treatable.
Somehow a bit behind on this thread, so apologies that the condolences are a bit late @HastingsRed - I hope you and the rest of the family aren't having to wait too long for the funeral, as I know it can take a while to sort at this time of year.
@Peter_G I hope the assessment went well, and you can move on to the next stage of treatment soon. One of my friends' kids was born with only one kidney for some reason, and apart from having to be a bit careful with his diet so as not to put too much strain on the other one, it's had no affect on him at all, so hopefully the same will apply to you.
@bedsaddick thank you for allowing us to hijack the thread for other people's stories as well as your own. I'm sorry to hear that you're going to have to go through the mill of radiotherapy again at some point, but hopefully that won't be necessary for a while.
@redmidland it's great to hear that the tumour has shrunk, and while another bout of chemo is not going to be fun, the fact that they're talking about your options with regards to next steps is a great sign. Onwards and upwards!

Thanks from me too @aliwibble I think the assessment went ok, I just hope the blood tests etc that they did don’t raise any flags, then I’m just waiting for a date for the surgery. I very much appreciate all the encouragement I’m getting from you all in regard to living with one kidney.
I was admitted to hospital last Wednesday sadly. Since last Sunday I was finding it difficult to pee. Then on Monday I became incontinent, very embarrassing and concerning. I called the emergency cancer ward where I'm being treated. They took me in and carried out tests and scans (MRI & CT). They were worried the cancer may have spread to my spine or bladder. Fortunately it hasn't, thank god, however the scans have shown that at sometime, years ago, it would appear that I've fractured my spine and pelvis. This, along with the tumour, is now causing me these issues. I can remember breaking my nose, wrist, ribs and permanently crippling my knee, while in the Army and playing football, but not my back. I was discharged on Friday, but, along with my 'stoma' I now have a catheter (bloody awful!). I have more tests to undergo, but they have confirmed I also have a UTI. The pain I've been in this last week has been horrendous and I'm still in agony. I don't seem to be able to get a break, (excuse the pun), and my ongoing struggles are slowly taking their toll. Yesterday's last minute winner really picked me up, and I now have to hope the team can keep this run going and give me something to look forward to during this second part of the season. I've no idea what, if anything, they'll do about my fracture, but whatever it is, I have to get through all this. Live, Love, Laugh and Be Happy Malc.
Sorry to read this Malc. It’s hard enough to comprehend what you’ve been going through with the cancer, but to find out about fractures to your spine and pelvis, and then a UTI, wow! Very best wishes to get through these hard setbacks and back on the right track. And let’s also hope that the team can give you another lift on Tuesday.
Bloody hell Malc, you’ve been through the wringer and back again so much. I can only offer you my sincerest best wishes that you keep on battling through. All the very best.
Good heavens, Red - did you drop a box full of mirror tiles, or stamp on a spider's nest, or similar? I can't believe the run of rotten luck you have had!
UTIs are unpleasant, but treatable, so hopefully that is the true cause of your current woes and the old bone injuries have nothing to do with it. I wish you the very best of luck, and hope you recover very soon. You deserve it, and not only as a reward for your steadfast support of the team.
Ah bloody hell RM, it never rains but it pours eh? As much as it's tempting not to given the catheter, keep drinking lots of water to help flush the UTI out of your system, and you may find unsweetened cranberry juice helps, although the documented evidence on that is variable apparently. Hope you're feeling better soon.
not a lifer but my mum was diagnosed yesterday with cervical cancer unknown how severe as yet.
went to gp 6 months ago with a pain in stomach which was put down to kidney stones and told to monitor it and if it gets worse come back.
then a cyst was found she was booked in to have this removed, when the operation was started the surgeon found abnormality with the cervix so a biopsy was taken, and then she was called in yesterday and delivered the news.
ct scan monday pet scan wednesday
treatment to commence within 2 weeks, initial thoughts are it looks like stage 3b which doesnt look great.
Hi again everyone. Met with Oncologist this afternoon. Fractures are not old injuries, they have diagnosed osteoporosis. This disease coupled with the chemo has caused my spine and pelvis to fracture! Plan is to clear the UTI, remove the catheter next Monday, restart chemo next Tuesday. Until the tumour has gone I'll have to live with the fractures. I'll remain in pain for awhile yet, as they can't sort everything at once. So yet another hurdle to clear, but this time it'll be an ongoing battle as there is no cure for osteoporosis! Thanks Malc x Live, Love, Laugh and Be Happy xx

It’s good that they are starting the treatment very soon. Sending positive thoughts to you both.
