Who plays 442? Academies almost exclusively play either 352 or 433.blackpool72 said:There is a reason why footballers playing in league one.
They ain't that good.
I think the further up the football pyramid you go the more you can experiment with different formations.
Top players can adapt to playing a different style because they are just that.top players.
Unfortunately we have a squad of bang average league one players and I think we should go back to basics
442 anyone because so many of our players look totally confused at times and don't look like they know what's expected of them.
When we rebuild our squad in the summer I hope we do so with bringing in players who can play a 442 system.
Let's face it they have been playing that formation since they were schoolkids.
Don't try and confuse them with too many different formations because they are not good enough to adapt.
That's why they are in league one.7 -
Would you honestly put your trust in our medical team? We don't exactly have a great record.AndyG said:Surely with something like this you have to put your trust in your medical team ? if they have assessed the player and give the green light then it nothing more to be said. Good player, good age, whats not to like ?0 -
I thought we were at our absolute best in this league the second half of 18/19 and we had two formations.

That worked so well, bowyer opted for which one he thought suited the game, maybe Jackson just needs to find another formation and juggle between the two.All that said, if you’ve shit players it won’t work regardless, the likes of Cullen and Taylor worked wonders in whatever formation we played. So IMO I don’t think too much emphasis on the formation is needed, you just need a plan or two, the key is the quality needed to get you where your objectives are.
Is it any coincidence bowyers setup and wonderful football went once the class of 18/19 went? (Taylor, Cullen, Bielik, Aribo, Bauer).2 -

Harsh!Belv said:Kirk is just a case of going through the ranks at Crewe with his mates and having a good time.
He hasn't got the stomach for the step up or being away from his comfort zone.
I suspect this loan move will fail and he'll be our player next season before being sold on the cheap, probably back to Crewe.2 -
That version of 352 (which we sometimes played in the Championship) worked well with Naby as left CB, able to bring the ball outBR7_addick said:I thought we were at our absolute best in this league the second half of 18/19 and we had two formations.

I was at the win at Forest, and hadn't realised that we started with a midfield 3 of Cullen, Davis and Oztumer! Other than Cullen, that's worse than this season's midfield 3s

Me too! Not saying I would want Pratley back (I definitely don't, and it would NEVER happen), but anyone to replace Watson would be an improvement!Leuth said:

Genuinely believe that if we lost Dobson for a period of time we would be bang in trouble.9 -
You'd think we could set our sights slightly higher. I get the sense Aaron Henry might see some game time now anyway2

I genuinely think we’ve got good centre backs certainly for this league to play either formation.killerandflash said:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51366544It’s what’s in front of them that’s the problem. The amount of times last Saturday when Famewo, Innis and Clare had no one to pass too was staggering.2 -

Thought he retired last yearForeverAddickted said:Just checked the article that confirmed his renewal, and cant see the mention of another option either.
Be very surprised if he doesn't decide to retire this year.1 -

PWR…so have we actually signed anyone yet…?Ok I’ve read it all,but still none the wiser…is this going to be another flop on the transfer/loanee front…,I know we will hopefully build in the summer ,but come on we need bods who knows the arse end of a football & not runs away from it,pass, recieve & shoot & to be able to make out a player in our own colours…& not fookin injury prone…is that too much to ask…0

Even the great Jimmy Seed made mistakes. He paid a club record transfer fee to Millwall for scot Tommy Brown and later admitted that although he was a very good player he just didn't fit in the system we were playing.Chunes said:Kirk was never awful, he was just never very effective either. He kept the ball, he was tidy, created a few chances, missed a few. Clearly he is a good footballer (the stats don't lie) but not at all suited to this system and not very suited to this club.
To be fair to the scouting team, they've signed a player who has not done well here and yet is still getting a move to the division above. Imagine if he had done well.5 -
The fact we’re still talking about Pratley over Watson is a damning reflection of how lost we are. Both should have gone in the summer. We shouldn’t even be thinking about what Pratley could add over Watson. If Pratley was still knocking about in the match day squad, even ahead of Watson, we would be no better off

I once had a chat with Lennie Lawrence and he said the secret to good management was not asking players to do what they were not capable of.6

I must have a poor memory because bar one brilliant performance at Burton, I genuinely can't remember anything that would put him in that bracket.BR7_addick said:
