  • Can say with 100% certainty if Kane gets that hand on his back from Silva and goes down, no foul/pen is given.
  • Referees need to start asking themselves though

How can the majority of Footballers suddenly show the sort of strength to win a 50/50 shoulder barge.

Yet suddenly end up as light as a feather at the slightest push
By “Unbelievable experience” according to Neville.

To be fair - he also said that it was never a foul.
  • How does Azpilicueta get away with so many fouls without getting booked

Spurs must absolutely hate playing Chelsea.

4 games this season, 4 defeats, 0 goals scored.

Thought they set up all wrong today, i know it's a different level of opposition but they were a shadow of the side that played really well at Leicester.

same could be said for Mason Mount.  His barge into Tanganga to put him in the hoardings was takkng the piss as that was his third identical challenge in about 10 mins.

To be fair, the narrow 4-4-2 with Bergwyn and Kane on the break worked first half.  That goal gets allowed, Spurs would have tried to shut them out, who knows.

Cant complain about the result.  Their squad is a billion pounds away from ours and it shows.

Anyhow, positives to take.  Dier was back and we defended bloody well again.  Was a bit strange seeing us revert to a back 4.  The Sanchez - Dier - Davies trio has been working well but presumabky going with FBs with defensive players in front was an attempt to keep their wing backs in check with doubling up.

One real negative, Tanganga. Looks woefully inaept as a CB and is a liability at FB.  His spacial awareness is so limited.  I wouldnt mind, he's bloody quick when he gets moving but he is all arms and he makes the same mistakes every game now.

Interesting week ahead, Lo Celso, Ndombele and Dele werent in the squad at all today.  Looks like they're going.  We need new blood.

I'm surprised Davies still gets a game. Looks past it when i've seen him this season, that fair?

Since Conte has reverted to 3 CBs, he has looked solid.  He's even been bringing the ball out and been providing options further forward.  Arguably the best spell he has had for Spurs. He looked out of place at LB today.

To be fair, until today, we'd only conceded 6 in our last 9 games.  The 3 CBs have done a decent job.  Conte wants another left sided CB, so you would think Davies would become back up and it looks like Sanchez will drop out for Romero who is almost back from injury.  Would be harsh on Sanchez as with Dier marshalling, he has got back to the form he was showing first season under Poch.
  • But yes it's VARs fault and not the fact that referees are incapable of doing their jobs.
You do know what "VAR" stands for, don't you?

Looks like Alli, Ndombele and Lo Celso won't be playing much for Spurs again. Need to ship out some of the dead wood. I'd probably put Doherty, Tanganga and Sessegnon in the 'not good enough' bracket as well but obviously you need some people in before you can get everyone out.
  • Doherty isn't that bad a wing back when he plays on the right. Thought he played really well when he came on against Leicester. He's certainly better than Emerson Royal.

General referee competence is at the lowest it's ever been.

Without VAR games would be a joke with the quality of refereeing we are seeing at the moment.

Yes, definitely looks that way.  Conte has his way of playing and he needs the players to fit his system.  Despite Ndombele and GLC being arguably the most creative of our midfield players, Conte just doesnt fancy them.  I dont blame him to be honest, their work rate is shocking.  I feel more sympathetic towards Dele but he's had more than enough chances now to prove 3 different managers wrong but when 3 dont fancy you, its time to move on.  Hopefully he gets a move to kick start his career again.

I agree re: Doherty and Tanganga.  Doherty has been told he can move on.  Tanganga isn't really a CB nor is he a RB.  He certainly isn't a RWB.  I still think Sessegnon has time on his hands and another season of Conte coaching him in the wing back role may see a marked improvement.

That was the best 45 mins he has had for us by a country mile.  Jury is definitely out on Royal.

Makes you wonder what the new Director of Football Paratici is on.   He brought in Royal for £25m and we're already looking to replace him.   Bryan Gil was brought in for £25m + Erik Lamela and there is already talk of him going back to Spain.
  • A good point re: Conte and Sessegnon. This is a manager who somehow turned Victor Moses into one of the worlds best wing backs for 2 years.

Paratici hasn't done well so far. There always seems to be an obsession with buying foreigners but then you look at Brighton and Southampton getting home grown talents like Lamptey and Livramento off Chelsea for peanuts.

But also Royal was really good for Betis and has been capped by Brazil and Gil was capped by Spain before Spurs signed him, so neither can be that bad. Perhaps they just need more time to adapt to a new country and language.

Royal has only ever played in a back four as a RB for Betis and Brazil.  You would have thought a RB could revert to a WB or vice verca but there you go.  He's blown hot and cold under Conte.  In some games he has been excellent, in some he's been poor to non-existent.  You could say the same about a lot of the players though in that sense.

Gil looks to have some tricks but he appears far too lightweight for me.  He doesn't really appear that quick either.  But he's still young, definitely one for the future.  I wouldn't be against him going back to Spain on a loan to see him get some minutes rather than just have him on the bench and he gets 5 mins here and there until the end of the season.
  • Was sent this tonight in my whatsapp group.  Says it all really...

That just about sums it up.  I'm fairly sure Lo Celso has played for Argentina more times than Spurs since he signed.
  • Didnt Spurs have Lo Celso and Fernandez on their radar at the same time and they went for the former.
  • Didnt Spurs have Lo Celso and Fernandez on their radar at the same time and they went for the former.
Oh yes.  Had a deal agreed with Sporting Lisbon and agreed personal terms but Spurs decided to pull the plug.  Whoever sanctioned ti, needs to be shot on that alone.

Didn't they do the same with Grealish? Sure I remember them having a deal for £25million when Villa were in financial trouble and then Levy delayed trying to haggle it down some more. In the end Villa got their takeover agreed and the rest is history.

Yes, correct.  Levy does like to sniff around clubs in trouble, think Aaron Lennon when we got him for £1m from Leeds... there are other examples that dont come to mind right now.
  • Since this is the spurs thread now
Emerson Royal is probably one of the worst footballers in the prem right now, my mate who is spurs we have this same conversation every week. Is he still shocking/ shit? Cant pass, cant cross, doesn't know what to do with the ball, cant tackle. Doherty even though hasn't done it for spurs is miles better, not even a debate. Looks silly Aurier going now as he would look world class compared to these too.

Le Celco, i am quite surprised. He has always looked like a game changer and a touch of quality but doesn't work off the ball so can understand managers not fancying him, Ndombele at times looks so good technically and was brilliant for a while just doesn't look the same player. To say those two are arguably some of your worst signings i would say is incorrect personally.

Gil does look shit too lol

........yeh but Spurs only spent £81m on those two. But they could have had Grealish for £25m but for Levy's greed. Those Spurs fans can only imagine him feeding through balls for Son to run onto and crossing for Kane to head the ball into the back of the net, Oh the pain they must be feeling.......
  • It's just come up on my Linkedin that Spurs are looking for a "First Team Sports Psychologist" based at Enfield. Have they recently lost theirs or only just discovered that they are in desperate need of one!
  • Hoorah, Burnley and Watford lived down to my score prediction of a nil nil draw  :D
  • Newcastle beat Everton to drag them into the relegation race
  • edited February 2022
Probably pissing in the wind, but that Newcastle win leaves Palace only six points above the drop - Cmon Norwich win tomorrow and really drag them back into it.

Equally if the bottom three keep grinding out these points, there will be a good few teams in a relegation battle yet.

Realistically already think its anyone from Brentford downwards.
  • I think Everton are in real danger of getting sucked into it

Burnley threw away tonight the chance of 3 points against one of the weaker teams, by only drawing with Man U
