If he doesn't piss anyone off with a bad attitude (seems very unlikely) I reckon this is fairly likely to lead to a loan again next season where he'll still only be 19. Unless he has an unbelievable next 3 months with us, I can't believe he'll show enough to have a Champ team come in on loan for him. Clearly not going to play for Chelsea, so if L1 is the stomping ground for him to play and learn, we would surely be interested. Chelsea loan link has been strong previously
  • Gutted that we won't see Mason in the shirt for the long term but congratulations to him and his family on the move. Have to say that that the contribution from both Lee Amis and Sean Foley from the age of around 7 through to 15 should not go unrecognised as well as Welling and Maidstone. They spent a lot of time and their own money in supporting lads like Mason and others and also Lee was responsible AFAIK for getting the club to have a look at him before he left during the ESI debacle. Credit where credit is due. Undisclosed is a bit annoying though. In the words of Kiaran Macguire "Transparency Is Good"

Fair play to Cawley, not going to do the whole fake news thing and guess the fee.  Undisclosed it is then, how it should be as well.

Nothing against Mason but now he has gone I simply wouldn’t play him ahead of Washington, Aneke, Leko, Stockley and even Kanu
Agree. We’ve got nothing to play for. Why should we?
This - If we were battling for promotion by all means let's use him. We aren't.
  • I don't think we'll ever know the fee, but Sandgaard says Chelsea met our valuation & it's a good deal for the club.

    That's good enough for me

Because Stockley is injured, Aneke we're not sure can do 90 minutes on a weekend and then midweek and will no doubt be suspended soon, Leko is average and Kanu hasn't made his debut yet.

After Wimbledon we play Bolton, Wigan, Oxford, MK Dons, Sheff Weds and Sunderland. A very tough run of games and we are by no means safe yet.

Lee left out the match day  squad then, or one of the not fit prem youngsters for now I guess.

According to a friend of mine, who has links in football, but doesn't hear that much, we have first dibs on him next season too, providing no-one higher up in the food chain wants him.

I can imagine it now. Fee gets declared at £1.6M.
We then pay Chelsea £500K loan fee to have him next year…
And they recall him in Jan when we are second, with us falling to 7th by seasons end!!

Suspect it'll just be Lee or Nile John in the squad not both on a few occasions, which isn't really that much of an issue.

That not really first dibs then is it?

As in if they're going to loan him out to League 1, we'd be first in line. If someone in the Championship wants him and he's willing to go there, then that's where he'll end up, but I can't see anyone in the Championship taking that gamble personally

Good luck to Mason. Seems a great lad.

I’ll be more than happy if we do a ‘Carl Jenkinson’ and start plotting spend of the fee on next year’s title winning team.

Or Lee does a Shinnie and signs a permanent deal outside of the window.

    More likely Famewo does.

Agreed from what i have seen... but in no circumstances should he play before he has signed a contract

I think you'll find that was actually our money. Also, you said 'before he left during the ESI debacle' but I think you meant to help 'before he helped to cause the ESI debacle'.

    That's not a loan.

    That's a hire.

Said tongue in cheek no doubt.

But sadly I think you maybe nearer the truth than you think!

Not at the moment. He has 7 goals in all competitions, once he hits double figures and championship teams know they can get him for a relatively low loan fee, its got to be a risk worth taking

Is Famewo also out of contract with his parent club at the end of this season? It was possible for Shinnie and would be for Lee for that reason. I can't imagine Norwich cancelling a contract that has 18+ months left to run.

apart from any of the promoted sides that might have seen him close up and will be working on a tiny budget for that division

Not sure I'm that pleased we have him back on loan for the rest of the season. I don't really see the point.
I get it, we had zero chance to get another back up striker in at the late time of day this deal was completed. Therefore having Mason available for the rest of the season is very sensible.
