Ultra critical maybe but I still don’t understand why, when their bloke turned onto their weaker foot on a narrower angle, Dobbo thought that was the right time to go to ground and attempt a block.
Give credit to their man for the fancy footwork but I’d have thought if there was any time to throw yourself at a shot, it’s when he turns onto his strong foot at a better angle, not his weak foot at a narrow angle.
Are you sure you are not getting REG and Coventry muddled.
Coventry takes up a good position behind Dobson, their guy turns away from Coventry and dobson goes with him. Dobson goes with the man and Coventry defends the space.
Their guy turns again and Coventry is still where you would expect him as he is protecting the space in front of the back 3. Dobson may have done better and stayed on his feet which meant he could have blocked the shot. Although their guy did well.
As their guy turned Dobson for the final time, REG moved to block the shot and then moved his head away from the flight of the ball.
Coventry did nothing wrong dobson Was twisted and turned and couldn't challenge as the ref would have given a pen REG should have been braver and not moved out the way.
I agree. REG didn’t provide proper back up imo. Contrast that with Lloyd Jones getting back to close down their striker when Small played him through with the early back pass. I said a while back we needed to get to the point where other players were covering so that one defensive error didn’t automatically lead to conceding a goal. Was good to see some progress on this yesterday. Ridiculously harsh to scapegoat Dobbo.

I think Dobson slipped as well .. there no blame there from anyone .. but the first goal Dobson should have stopped the cross went to ground to soon

The first goal Thomas was firstly not strong enough then let Adebayo get in front of him. Yes the cros# could have been defended better but down to Thomas in my opinion.

Think we’re all being ultra critical of Dobson and REG, if one of ours had scored that goal we’d be singing his praises not saying well their midfielder should have done better with the block or their defender shouldn’t have moved his head. Ffs it was a good well taken goal.

Except REG didn't fancy a ball in the face and ducked out of it. Professional footballers doing that is poor

Nor did Watson for the first and turned his back on the cross. Dobson "busting a gut" to try and block it. Watson turned his back and made no attempt to block the ball and yet the only criticism re the cross is aimed at Dobson.

Both of them got done by the movement of the Bolton players at the throw in and left them with too much to do to get back to block the crosser.

I've only seen (or registered) one comment criticising Dobson for the cross and that was from Ronnie!
I think that there's a bit of over-analysis going on here. I don't think Dobson is particularly culpable but honestly it's hard to say that anyone actually is to "blame" - the scorer pulled off a really neat bit of skill and a great finish.
If the same thing happened ten more times, 9 of them end up with Dobson knicking the ball off his toe or the ball runs away from the Bolton player or the shot hits REG or just straight up misses the target.
It's bad luck for us, a great goal for Bolton and sometimes that's just how it goes.
The issue I have with the goal was that one of the defending players should have said to to other to cover his left/right. If Dobbo was isolated, fair enough but he wasn't. I think it is an example of a lack of commuication being an issue. But it wasn't a glaring mistake like we have seen, it just shows an aspect of our game we are lacking in.
First unikum of the year. We win agai, at first home game too.
You should have asked for a glass. Drinking out of a plastic is not satisfactory.
Do you have sugar with your coffee btw?
I know, but inside the stadium you cannot drink from glass. That is why the unikum looks like a coffee. I usually drink black coffee, without anything, sometimes with rum.
Saw someone say they thought Dobson's pass was just a hopeful hit but no way is that what happened. He looks up and sees the run to pick out Bakinson. His passing has improved so much in the last 12 months

For some it’ll always be a classy long pass if it comes from someone like Coventry, but a hopeful hoof from a clogger like Dobson
Surely he’s not really going to join this Hungarian team, is he?!
Yes. Daft thing is I get the feeling he wants to stay, we should want him to stay (and Jones probably does), but it's all too little too late as Scott tried to push him out and the pre-contract is signed.

Anyone who said that, doesn't understand football.

Seemingly 90% of our fans on here, although most don't go.

There are a puzzling number of people who seem blind to Dobson's skills. They think that all he can do is tackle to break up play. But no one else in the team is as good as he is at receiving the ball, shielding it, spinning and playing a snap pass. He has excellent vision and, just as much as the now-lauded Coventry, an awareness of a killer pass and the technique to execute it such as that to Bakinson last night.
I thought he wasn’t very good in the first half but much better in the second.
Would I swap him long term for Coventry? No.
Do I think he could play a role in next seasons squad if he stayed? Absolutely.
As I’ve said before the utter shite we have been watching for some time has perhaps slightly over valued a decent league one midfielder (simply because he’s been alongside so much dross).

Ah yes, you are correct. Only watched it in real time.
