Not sure what to make of that. Very cagey.

Shaw is not comfortable playing where he is, he’s done nothing.

Philips has played well but he’s 1 tackle away from a red.

Maguire has been the best player on the pitch.
Man Utd are lucky to have Maguire. 80m was steep but he’s a top 5 CB in world football.

Good half. We looked far more in control than I thought we might. The Germans are obviously wary of our counter attacking and aren't committing as much forward as they maybe otherwise would. They're looking to catch us out with that sudden ball over the top and we're very reliant on Walker's pace to bail us out at times. We have it though. Shame both the centre mids are on yellows now but they've both grown into the game and been good. Need to get Saka and Sterling into the game more, then as it wears on bring in Grealish and Sancho or Foden to go at them. It's finely poised, need to cut out any mistakes and hope the Germans make another one like they did at the end of the half there and pounce on it. This game could really change either way in just a second

I'd take 0-0 at the break with our bench.
Kane should score that but looks out of touch

Kane is FUBAR - get him off - that chance at the end of first half WTF was he doing - just belt it in !!!

Would not sub Kane, not whilst there is the risk of penalties
Not sure I'd back him to score one on this form. Shearer has called it, he's not even looking annoyed at the lack of balls into the box. Half arsed
Yeah I wont lie, I was also thinking of the comparisons with Mbappe earlier with his penalty miss

As we've seen with Kane this half though, Strikers like him can be quiet for 40mins and then explode into life

Awful first 45 - two very average sides.
England are an average side, have been for years. One of the poorest German teams I have seen for a long time,
Nah - the golden generation is just wasted on some Middlesbrough reject.

Done better than an unfaithful Swede who had his own golden generation...

Slightly worried about getting done on the left hand side because Shaw is slightly too slow getting back when Germany break.

But on the whole a good half. The problem England have is that their main striker is playing like he's unfit. So Sterling and Saka are having to play around him rather than with him.
Spot on, both are playing pretty well but have no one to play off.

This game is there for the taking if Southgate is brave enough. Bellingham and one of Foden or Grealish in there and England win by a couple of goals. Just don’t wait to concede before making the changes. Kane is neither fit nor interested.

You just know the Germans are going to get a goal 2nd half then we are fucked. Its criminal leaving what we have on the bench. Not an issue though GS online for a contract extension lol let's see if he has the balls to change things and try to grab this game by the scruff of the neck. My bet is he will take Saka off first and bring Rashford on lol

Agree on Shaw his first thought when he received the ball is sideways backwards and he’s not getting many tackles in either. Waste of a shirt, Shame Chillwell is not in the bench.

If I was an English striker sitting on the bench at the start of this second half, I would have every right to be furious.
Imagine if you were the English striker in the squad that didn’t even make the bench!
Imagine if you were Ollie Watkins and you're watching it from home.

I wonder how many English people all said in unison “PUT IT IN THE F***ING BOX” when Walker got that ball.
Lost count of how many times I've screamed cross it.
    Not just Walker.
Why the hell are we not putting any crosses in? Is it the players or the manager instructions.
  • No doubt now we're capable of beating the Germans. Now can we actually do it?
We need to up the tempo.
Good to see signs that Kane is finally getting into the game. More of that please.

Need a midfielder who can carry the ball up the pitch. Maguire has been our most positive player so far. Rice & Phillips only go sideways or backwards.

We're so slow in our build up - seem to be hoping for a German mistake.
    it was ever thus.

Germany had to start the game fast to take the wind out of our sails. We grew into that game slowly and I thought we played well for long spells.

Hopefully we can start the fastest in this second half, and keep our foot on the pedal throughout.

People are way too harsh on Kane, not been great but had no service.
Won’t move in front of a German player, won’t move into space and a poor touch when he has it at his feet in front of goal with the keeper beaten.  The bloke is hiding on that pitch.
We could stick another goalie on he’d contribute more.

Lineker sounds like he's had a couple in the first half.

The major positive is that we have the likes of Mount, Grealish, Foden, Bellingham ready to come on and influence the game.

Kane looks a full yard off the pace so lethargic he doesnt look the same player atleast DCL would provide a target and would hold the ball up. Kane is woeful no movement, cant win a header, so shocking I feel sorry for him

Not a bad first half. Germany had the best chance of the game but we have been better in possession. I just with we would create more chances. Kane has offered nothing. I think Rashford would offer more by pulling the German central defenders out wide freeing up space for Sterling and Saka.

If we don’t make a change in the centre there is a red card without a doubt coming for England .... especially in a game where they will be under more pressure
Take them both off. Bring on Foden & Grealish and go for it.

Been watching videos of Ray Wilkins - he would have fitted in well under Southgate.

Sorry but no he's not, hell he barely scrapes into the top 5 in the Premier League, Dias, Laporte, Van Dijk all better than him, and a few others around Europe too.

That's our problem, we massively over-hype our players constantly, then when we draw with Scotland and crash out before the semi finals everyone sulks and tells us we're underperforming etc. etc. when in reality we have a squad of decent but unspectacular players

He dropped a fraction deeper towards the end of the half and suddenly looked a threat.
