They are a measure of liquid volume. Whereas regular ounces are weight. There are 20 fl.ozs. to a pint. (Or 16 if you are in the USA. A US gallon is only around 80% of an Imperial gallon and their pints are smaller too obviously. Especially when they come with two inches of foam on the top.)se9addick said:

People are measure imperial feet, inches, stones and pounds
Houses are metric
Football is yards which is imperial isn't it
Distance is hybrid. Metres and miles not kilometres they are stupid
Speed is mph
Money should be metric or decimal, whenever inask someone about pounds shillings and pence I have not received a straight answer0 -
If the Simpsons ruled the world would everything be in base 8.
The decimal system is a choice that's all.0 -

What's the rule for weather?
When its cold, I use Centigrade (it's below freezing...)
When its hot, I use Fahrenheit (it's in the 80's)
I understand the relativity of both, but could't use the same principle in reverse.6 -

We all knew it was "freezing" outside last week - how many said "oh look, its 30° outside". But we all know when the temperature hits the high 80's it's hot outside.0 -
-40 is -40, as I found out in Alberta one winter. One less thing to worry about.bobmunro said:

Be interesting to see what the US weather forecast uses - we know it will be fahrenheit for temperatures above freezing but do they quote for example -10c or 14f ?golfaddick said:

We all knew it was "freezing" outside last week - how many said "oh look, its 30° outside". But we all know when the temperature hits the high 80's it's hot outside. Here's a look at some of the temperatures this morning:
- Oklahoma City: -12 degrees, the coldest since 1899 and second coldest ever
- Dallas: -1 degrees, the coldest since 1930, and second coldest ever
- Houston: 13 degrees, the coldest since 1989
- San Antonio, Texas: 12 degrees, the coldest since 1989
- Little Rock, Arkansas: -1 degrees, the coldest since 1989
- Fayetteville, Arkansas: -20 degrees, the all-time coldest temperature
- Hastings, Nebraska: -30 degrees, the all-time coldest temperature

Is that 120years in old money?2 -
Weather is always centigrade Celsius. I have no appreciation of the conversion between the 2 when I've heard the temperature described as 'boiling, in the high nineties' nope. Means nixiesSporadicAddick said:Carter said:People are measure imperial feet, inches, stones and pounds
