There were public information films produced in preparation for changeover to decimal currency including one called 'Granny gets the point' that was shown quite often.
Wonder which famous footballer, now manager, has watched this?

So the Yanks went decimal in 1792 but still use feet & inches for more things than us I believe. Do they use lbs and ounces?
Yep. Feet, inches, miles, acres, pints, pounds, ounces and Fahrenheit.
Fluid ounces - what’s all that about?!
They are a measure of liquid volume. Whereas regular ounces are weight. There are 20 fl.ozs. to a pint. (Or 16 if you are in the USA. A US gallon is only around 80% of an Imperial gallon and their pints are smaller too obviously. Especially when they come with two inches of foam on the top.)

People are measure imperial feet, inches, stones and pounds Houses are metric Football is yards which is imperial isn't it Distance is hybrid. Metres and miles not kilometres they are stupid Speed is mph Money should be metric or decimal, whenever inask someone about pounds shillings and pence I have not received a straight answer

What's the rule for weather?
When its cold, I use Centigrade (it's below freezing...)
When its hot, I use Fahrenheit (it's in the 80's)
I understand the relativity of both, but could't use the same principle in reverse.

Yes - me too.
Although I've got to the point where I instinctively know that 21c is 70f!

This with bells on.
We all knew it was "freezing" outside last week - how many said "oh look, its 30° outside". But we all know when the temperature hits the high 80's it's hot outside.

-40 is -40, as I found out in Alberta one winter. One less thing to worry about.

Be interesting to see what the US weather forecast uses - we know it will be fahrenheit for temperatures above freezing but do they quote for example -10c or 14f ?

Here's a look at some of the temperatures this morning:

Houston: 13 degrees, the coldest since 1989
San Antonio, Texas: 12 degrees, the coldest since 1989
Little Rock, Arkansas: -1 degrees, the coldest since 1989
Fayetteville, Arkansas: -20 degrees, the all-time coldest temperature

Weather is always centigrade Celsius. I have no appreciation of the conversion between the 2 when I've heard the temperature described as 'boiling, in the high nineties' nope. Means nixies
Tell me its 40 degrees though and straight away I'm in

The decimal system is a choice that's all.
