Everton vs Leicester on Tuesday off, as Leicester don't have enough players
Premier league rules have turned into a farce.

Leicester seemingly don't have many/any covid cases, their list of missing players is down to a long injury list plus players away at AFCON. They had enough players (including a few kids) to beat a Premier league team 4-1 at the weekend.

However premier league rules state that if they don't have 13 senior outfield players available then the game can be called off. Why on earth aren't they made to play the game with the squad that featured on Saturday?
Agreed it's odd that NO FA Cup games anywhere weren't played, yet a PL game 3 days later can be called off
TBF the FA said no games were allowed to be called off and any teams could put youth players out without them counting as first team experience for prem matches(hence Leicester used Brunt and Daley Campbell from the start but they still class as non first team players for prem matches)

Although I agree they managed to put a first 11 out and beat Watford and apparently have 2/3 covid cases max the rest are injures and AFCON duty which is ridiculous that they can call a game of for that

Not help by losing their best striker to Newcastle.

Maybe they'll have a replacement  in by the time the game is played  ;)

They're going to have a serious fixture pile up if they don't get things sorted soon. Already got 3-4 games in hand on some sides.

Arsenal have requested the postponement of Sunday's north London derby with Tottenham at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium because of a lack of available players.
The Gunners said they have "reluctantly taken this step" because of injuries, positive Covid-19 cases and players away with their countries at the Africa Cup of Nations.

what a load of crap. Arsenal’s fault for signing those players. Not as if they didn’t know they’d be off to the ACN when they signed them.

Blame the rules that are set up for teams to do this.

Not sure if the Prem rules are the same as the EFL ones as I'd be surprised if Arsenal.couldnt field 14 players who have played a competitive match for them this season as surely the ones that played in the Pizza Cup count.

Burnley has requested Tuesday's Premier League game at home against Watford be postponed because of a high number of injuries and Covid-19 cases in the squad.

The PL have set a precedent now...

The Premier League has recorded the lowest weekly number of new positive Covid-19 cases since 5 December.

In the seven days up to and including Sunday 16 January, there were 33 new positive cases among players and staff, from 13,625 tests.

It is the third successive week that the number of positive tests has fallen.

Burnley v Watford confirmed as now postponed.

Burnley have only played 2 league games since 12 December and have 5 games in hand on some teams.

Luckily they're not in Europe and are out of the FA Cup so should be able to reschedule games quite easily.

If I’m right, this is the first one due to Burnley? The others were postponed due to the teams they were facing having wanted the games off due to having Covid cases?

Burnley v Leicester was also called off at the weekend because of Burnley but i think all the others were down to other clubs. They also had a game called off because of snow.

It's an awkward precedent, as clubs can effectively call off games because of a lack of senior players, even without large numbers of Covid cases, which has never been allowed before. Middlesbrough got relegated after a points deduction for not playing a game

Should have had to be a minimum number of covid cases, not just players available.

Exactly this, the PL really didn't think this through.

Unfortunately they can't go back on it now mid-season.

The Premier League is looking into changing its guidance around match postponements after criticism over the number of games being called off.

That's even more ridiculous. How can you change the rules mid-season when some clubs have already benefitted from those rules?!

If those games are not against teams in Europe and still in the fa cup…and don’t have games against other teams that also need rearranging

I had been wondering when Covid would start reappearing, a limiting factor being that most teams have already had Covid outbreaks in their squad. Mark Robins the Coventry manager has recently had to isolate for example

Is it a limiting factor if they’ve already had Covid outbreaks ? People repeatedly getting Covid tends to suggest some are more susceptible to it than others and if they’ve had it once perhaps they are likely to get it again.
