The very fact he responds to fans on social media tells me he's profoundly insecure. Do we have a sports psychologist on call? He's obviously a decent player whose head is gone right now
I don’t doubt there might be some mental struggles in there which would of course be adversely affecting his game but from watching him on the pitch, I just don’t know how he gets any better from here?

He’s showing zero quality on the pitch. A decent player going through a tough spell would at least have a few bright moments here and there but Omar...

When a cricketer or golfer gets the yips, they are treated sympathetically. Bogle has been thrown to the hounds. Should be nowhere near the field given his state obviously but he's clearly not getting the urgent help he needs
Stuck in a tier 4 area far from.his family not able to travel might not help one bit.
Do you know for a fact that he is away from his family?

Have to admit that inside the box he looks like a non-league player. He is so on his heels and his lack of anticipation is acres behind what a striker needs to have at this level. The swing at the ball with his left foot on Saturday looked like something you'd see down at Goals. Even if he hit it, it wasn't going in.
  • he doesn’t need our twatter fans to tell him how shit he is , he has bowyer telling the world and subbing him whenever he plays
yes he’s been beyond pony for us but I do feel sorry for him (fuck you tin man I’ve got the heart )
If he don't like it, don't be on social media... Soon as a professional footballer goes on social media, they are leaving them self open to abuse..
  • I don't think he's been good, but he's not been nearly as bad as this thread makes me think I should believe.

Do you mean you don't think you believe he has been good, but you don't believe he has been nearly as bad as you believe this thread makes you think you should believe?

    Or not?

  • When I look at his body language and reactions on the pitch sometimes, I do get an impression that he's struggling with his mental health, not just in a "bad form on the pitch" way but in the sense of depression and anxiety.

This is probably at least partly due to Covid, he's moved geographically and gone up a division, there's a lot of pressure and he's not scored many. It's a tough place for him to be in. Hopefully he gets some help, and a break from the team probably would genuinely help him.

    Agreed.

    Preferably until June.
  • Great man management there.  Take a struggling player.  Tell him he is shit, tell the press you think he is shit, hey presto see the improvement.
And then wheel him out again to start the next match.  I have honestly never seen anything like it.

Can anyone think of a player, ever, who a manager so obviously doesn't rate yet starts almost every game then gets hooked as soon as physically possible?

Diagnosing mental illness based on video footage which uses a camera 100 metres away. WOW!
You are right to point out potential problems that he might be facing but none of us know how it is affecting him.

I think we can all agree he isn't palying well but our attack currently only really functions when Aneke comes off the bench. It isnt all Bogle's fault but he's taking most of the blame, unfairly in my opinion.
  • Was hoping Smyth would have a good showing in the second half on Saturday to give us an additional choice to not have to use Bogle again. Hard to comment as when Pratley was hooked its impossible to say whether he is a better option.

Just hoping that Aneke can maintain his fitness so we dont have to rely on Bogle for most of the second half of the season.
  • It feels abit harsh saying this but having seen him now for half the season i feel bowyer and the club need to be abit selfish and get rid now! bring in another striker who at least is better rounded and positively affects the game.
i really wanted bogle to be a success and do well for us as i do every player that puts on our shirt but at the end of the day for however much he trys he just isnt up to the level we need to push, sustain and achieve promotion

we have schwartz now but if we can get another instead of bogle it would be perfect alongside him washington and aneke

no time for sentiment we want and need promotion this season if poss!
  • I feel sorry for Bogle. He was very poor but is trying but there is clearly something not right - Bowyer calling players out publicly is counter productive and bullying/humiliating in my opinion - (look at the way Mourinho treated Luke Shaw and Dele Alli - surprised no one has taken Mourinho out to be honest).

It is not the Charlton way and not part of our values. We need to encourage our players (unless they were the ones dumped on us by the idiot Duch of course!).
  • I desperately want him to do well for Cafc;
for our sake and his. There is a reason good strikers are paid top dollar.( Not in League 1)

I feel I'm a good judge of footballers; when the consenus was Simon Francis was a shite footballer: in his last game against Preston he was and got hooked at HT because he had totally lost confidence and the usual suspects slaughtered him in the small League cup crowd. I said if he was used as an attacking full back he would play higher than Cafc. A bold statement after he had been inept for 45 minutes.
Eddie Howe helped to rebuild his confidence and gave him licence to fly down the wing.

Back to Bogle. He scores the goal down the Jimmy Seed end and before I can type, form is temporary, class is permanent, he misses a sitter and there is no mention of his goal on the match thread but just his miss.

I was kind and said on a good day he is a League two striker. He has scored two more goals for Cafc than Josh Parker who was playing in a very good Cafc side with Taylor, Cullen, Aribo, Bielik etc yet still couldn't score.

We need 4 strikers to get out of this division and a combo of Schwartz, Aneke and Washington are the 3 and Bogle is either the 4th striker who does the cameo 10 minutes at the end as 4th striker or else we arrange a deal and move him on and get Josh Davidson back to be the 4th striker as we know he will put in a shift even if it's for a max of 20 minutes replacing Ronnie or Chuks.

Thanks Omar we wish you well but when you totally miss the ball in front of goal when any contact could well of resulted in a goal, sorry but I have seen better in the 7th and 8th tier this season.( Before it was stopped on Nov 5th)

I would love it, really love it if Omar could prove us all wrong but not convinced that he has the mentality or skill to be the man we require to help as push on into the top 6.

Professional football can be brutal and very few succeed; Not for the faint hearted.

  • Can’t blame Gallen or Bowyer we were desperate for numbers and he was worth a punt. Not everything works out and unfortunately Bogle is one of them. Yes I feel for him but a team such as ours can’t carry passengers and at least he has a contract up until next summer to sort himself out & I wish him well. Not sure if he’ll be moved on this month will depend on the pesky salary cap, but performances don’t lie, his better days were some years ago.

What makes you think that "he's obviously a decent player"?

    The guy has no idea.

He scored some goals at Grimsby in League 2 and Solihull Moors in non-League.

When people go on about Gallen and his eye for a player, I will refer them back to Bogle.

    Useless.  And I'm being kind.
I recall looking at the list of available strikers someone put on here.
They were mostly rubbish and Bogle looked potentially one of the best, that was realistic.
So it's foolish to blame Gallen.
He can't be right all the time and should imagine it's very difficult to scout in Lockdown type scenarios.

Yes, it is important to remember that part of it comes down to who is available. Unless you're able to make "money is no object" bids for players (which we aren't) then clubs have to be willing to do deals or players willing to move on. We were fortunate with Taylor that a player of his quality was out of contract and looking to make a move while staying down south. As far as I could see, there were few strikers of quality on the market this summer and Bogle did look one of the better options out there that we could get (Clarke-Harris is probably the one that got away, but that was out of Gallen or Bowyer's hands).

I do think he's better than his very recent form, he looks in a real slump right now. Whether even at his best he's good enough for what we need is debatable but he's what we've got and it'd probably be more productive to try and be supportive and build his confidence up than everyone rinsing him out at every opportunity.

  • As I mentioned months ago, I would feel for Bogle if we had the fans in the Valley. The level of moaning, swearing, shouting would be cringeworthy.

He started off neat and tidy and has progressively looked wayward, low on concentration and confidence.

His Charlton career thus far can be best summarised by Innis's goal heading into the net that he turned into an offside and disallowed goal!
  • Bogle not on great form for sure. His job was to work hard & hold the ball up. He is a second striker.

If Josh Parker was left up front on his own in season before last as the main striker, then Parker would have floundered.

Now, we have Schwartz as first striker & Bogle can play with the pressure off  .
  • I don't agree with some of the abuse he gets on here.
    But he is crap
