Passed the ball out to them for their first, should have done better for their second. Not good at crossing. Pearce: 3 weak for both goals, struggled Sarr: 3 good crossfield ball but what’s the point when you can’t defend Matthews: 3 should have done better to stop their second Cullen: 2 worst performance of the season. Weak for their second. Gave the ball away too much. Forster-Caskey: 3 anonymous Field: 4 our best midfielder, but seems made of glass. Can’t last a full game. Doughty: 4.5 our best player but pinned back by Byrne. Bonne: 1 absolutely turd. What is the point in persisting with a striker that can’t even score one on ones. Phillips: 6 probably at fault for the first goal, but pulled off some good saves to keep us level. Not a vintage performance. Lockyer: 5 not has his best and at fault for at least one goal. Pearce: 7 leader, kept going until his legs fell off. A proper captain’s performance. Sarr: 7 sumptuous passing all game, but could have done better for their goal(s) Matthews: 7.5 an excellent outlet all game. I genuinely hope we can keep hold of him! Cullen: 5.5 not his best performance but he must be shattered. Not sure moyes will be overly impressed. Forster-Caskey: 5 a bit anonymous Field: 7 broke play up really well. If he could last a full tame he’d be excellent. Doughty: 8 our motm, a threat and defensively sound. What a finish at a time we really needed it. Bonne: 6.5 actually a pretty poor performance but credit for the goal at the death Davison: 7.5 really impressed with his first half, even if it didn’t lead to much Morgan: 5 didn’t really work for him out there today Williams: 6.5 some nice passes, drew some fouls, but not his best Aneke: 6.5 started bright but then gave away about a thousand fouls. Field: 7.5 - played well, hope his injury isn’t too serious as we will need him for Leeds Doughty: 9 - great attacking play and a superb volley for the first equaliser Bonne: 9 - high energy running, put himself about and was in the right place for several chances, very cool in the 93rd minute, now joint top scorer, you can’t really ask for more Davison: 8 - the boy done good, looked strong, made a nuisance of himself, perhaps should have tried him sooner in these closing games Morgan: 7.5 - ran about a lot but didn’t really make much of an impact Williams: 7 - runs around but not near enough to the opponents goal/ penalty box. Stop diving! Aneke: 7.5 - looked dangerous when he came on, great assist for the goal, - 5 for giving away silly fouls Referee: 5 - missed a stonewall pen but did keep the game moving pretty well.
To be fair to the ref, I think most refs wouldn't have given a penalty. I think there was some contact from behind but the ref will consider whether there was enough. I thought the Reading penalty appeal was much stronger, but the ref needed help from his assistant to be aware the Reading player had his arms around F-C.
