A wonderful club servant for many years and through some very difficult times. And a true Gentleman the times I met him. Have a long and happy retirement.
Just to clarify I meant Chris Parkes not Ackworth. 😉
We'll find out when somebody forgets to submit the team sheet for the first game in March, or when our signing of Kylian Mbappe on transfer deadline day falls through because the transfer form wasn't filled in correctly
i vouch for him - in all the years we were in the same primary school class together, he never once put his shoes on the wrong way round (after his mum had sewn left and right inside them!!!)

Top bloke, who was caught between a daft spat on here and defending his family. Thankfully that last incident, that earned him the sack briefly, showed exactly how much he loved the club. Happy retirement Chris.
Top bloke and a true gent plus Charlton to his core. Had the pleasure of meeting Chris and doing business with him when my company had a contract at the Valley and it was a pleasure. Enjoy your retirement Chris.
A little surprised not to see this referenced in VOTV @Airman Brownor have I missed it?
This was officially announced on the afternoon VOTV173 went to press, so the timing was out. In fact, it had been known to me for some time - could have gone in the previous issue - but it wasn’t something I was comfortable putting out unilaterally. As it happens, I spoke to Chris today at the Derek Ufton memorial and wished him a happy retirement.
In light of Airman Brown's comment that this was known to some before the announcement, I do worry about a club that does not allow sufficient time to recruit new staff before letting the previous ones go.

Was known well before Christmas, probably in November.

As far as you know was his retirement planned well in advance or was it a recent decision that he made?
Unless they promote in-house they may need to wait one or even three months while the replacement works their notice.
Would have made sense to keep Chris to the end of the season so there was a handover anyway.
It's kind of symbolic of the wider picture right now. Individually yes it's probably a mistake, not one that can't be mitigated and on its own not perhaps that big a deal (depending on Chris' reason/desire to leave and the urgency thereof.)
But given the general malaise that seems to be settling over the club in general it does feel like there seems to be more of these small but unnecessary blunders going on. No single one thing is particularly bad, but a lot of them all happening in close succession doesn't fill the heart with confidence.
I could be (probably I am) reaching a lot here but this just feels like another case of good intentions but poor execution by Sandgaard and his staff.

Not a fair statement in my opinion to say not well planned.
Senior appointments in any industry take time. 3 months notice or longer often the norm and even then won’t always allow for a handover period. Ridiculously HR on-boarding of a new employee can take several weeks or up to a month post a job offer. This can be bettered but often isn’t.
I had inferred it wasn’t planned in as much as CP imitated it. As a small club we don’t have succession plans I assume for all roles out of practicality and of course due to recent neglect under RD and before.
To have negotiated a bit longer to handover : support is the right outcome.
I might guess CP wants to be fully clear by the end of the season and disappear on holidays etc. at the latest so the new incumbent also has a clean slate for next season.

I don’t think Chris is anxious to leave at all but he has now sold up and is moving well north of London.

Let's have it right look at the circus and all round tosspots he has had to put up with over the years, rather him than me.
Wish him well in his retirement.
He enjoys a bit of very childish stalking.
