He was there to do a job in the face of a serious head wind and gave us great physicality there, just what we needed with the ball bouncing all over the place and in the air.
I agree. I thought he played alright. People fail to see what he brings. I thought he played better today than both Sarr and Lockyer who I thought had weak games as central defenders.
I know you said play Oshilaja in the preview but being at the Valley today, there is no way he played better than Sarr. Looking at the old score board confirms 98%. agree with me. Sarr was immense again.
Amazing win and thoroughly deserved. Gives us a tiny bit of breathing space. Still a lot of work to do but the players responded magnificently. Fans were incredible second half when the boys needed you most. #COYR#cafc
Only had time to read page 1 of the comments so far but for those who were sceptical about young George before kick off, it was the complete opposite for me.
When the team was announced at 2pm, I was far happier than at the same time last week. The starting eleven looked more balanced and apart from Davis, I applauded Bow's decision to bench our other recent loanees....I feel we have players of our own who can do as good a job at this moment in time, if not better.
But I was also pleased to learn that George was in the squad after his seemingly lengthy injury.
In my view, he's rarely let us down when given the opportunity, albeit in cameo roles & usually from the bench...and so it came to pass ( sorry for the pun!) today.
Clearly, there will have to be some chopping & changing with 2 further matches over the next 7 days and I hope that Pratley will be fit enough to play his part at some point, with Bonne also deserving of more time on the pitch IMO.
And Naby should be one of the first names on the team sheet....
Great, much needed win this afternoon & a huge dose of confidence as we head north of Watford on Wednesday & again next weekend.

Brought some crucial energy and aggression in the early stages in particular - a time we have proved to be vulnerable due to the lack of those characteristics

A deserved win in the end after a nervous and pretty even first half. Although Luton became a little ragged in the second half, I felt the big difference between the sides was an imperious performance by Lyle Taylor, who was head and shoulders above every other player on the pitch. Quite apart from his superbly fashioned first goal and trademark penalty, he is the best crosser at the club, an excellent defender from the front and, so it appears from the last 20 minutes, a more than useful number 10, dictating play from just behind Macauley Bonne. The man is a demi-god.
Following a pedestrian performance from our midfield in the first half, Lee Bowyer acted quickly at the start of the second to introduce George Lapslie after Deji had given the ball away twice in dangerous positions. George went on to have an inspired and energetic 40 minutes, closing down the opposition, winning the ball and constantly moving into space to create passing opportunities for his teammates. After winning the penalty, his goal was the icing on the cake. I may be wrong but I thought he had only had 45 minutes game time for the Under 23s since his comeback but hopefully he can at least be on the bench at Hillsborough, even if he hasn’t yet got 90 minutes in him. His energy helped turn the game in our favour.
A shout out also to Ehrun Oztumer, who provided a couple of beautiful through balls and linked up play nicely. His wild charge into that big bloke in the centre circle in the second half was worth the admission money alone.
Great to see Macauley Bonne back on the field and I feel he will have a big part to play in the last 12 games. The man knows where the goal is and his cross for the third goal was excellent. I’d like to see him start on Wednesday, as his physicality and finishing ability up front give us an additional dimension. Andre Green is quick but he is still learning the position as a striker and lacks a bit of strength and hold-up ability against big centre-halves.
As for Luton, I can see why they have conceded so many goals. Apart from the three we got, the Nabster thumped one against the bar and Green missed the target (albeit under pressure) when it looked easier to score, following great work from Oztumer and Lyle. I can’t see them (or Barnsley, for that matter) catching us now, whilst we now have three other teams between us and Wigan in the drop zone. Hull lost again and are by no means out of it.
A great result and, whilst there is still work to do, we have now taken 9 points this month and won the two critical home games against Barnsley and Luton. Despite their poor run, the game against Wednesday will be tough and I see that Fletcher was a second half substitute for them. Grant is also back for Huddersfield, although hopefully we’ll get something out of the two games next week and, at least reach the 40 point mark with 10 games to go. Let’s hope Pratley is fit for next Saturday, as we are missing his dynamism in midfield.

What a great substitution today, Oshilaja for some reason was just not on it and the midfield was getting overrun by Lutons diamond, Georgie Lapslie really upped the energy, Lyle Taylor did what he does best and in the end we were more than worthy winners, a massive 3 points.
Great stuff and onto Yorkshire for back to back games, COYA!

He was playing out of position. He's not played many games this season. He's just back from injury. A lot of mitigating factors, but he was bloody awful and "gave them their second goal", which was incorrectly ruled out.
As soon as he was hooked and Lapslie came on the the game turned very quickly in our favour.
Echo most on here about the game, much better second half.
Lyles 1st was mustard! We have to sign him up. Oz played some lovely balls but I felt he also played a few under hit short passes that Luton got hold of. Still a great display.
Young George did change the game.
Great respect shown for the young Luton lad at the 8th minute, we are a classy club.
I feel we can kick on a bit from here, next few games are winnable.

That's alright mate. I just saw it a bit differently. I really do think that both Sarr and Lockyer had weak games as CBs, especially Lockyer.
Taylor easily the MoM but a great sub appearance by Lapslie, the best he's played for a long time, as last season a lot of the time there was effort, but little end product.
I think it says it all that 2 of our deadline day signings didn't start or even come off the bench.
We needed the “bodies” but it’s obvious that Lapslie is ahead of Smith in Bowyer’s mind and Morgan should be too. I’d argue that Oztumer and Williams are better than McGeady. Davis has been ok - good against Forest but average since. Overall, the window shopping was poor, IMO. I don’t blame Bowyer and Gallen for that .

Great result but let's be honest, we were awful in the first half with a mega defensive set up and still should have been 2.1 down to the bottom club in the division. Only Lyle and Ozzie looked to have any quality and our defending was abject.
I have to concede LB is a genius and I am an idiot because it seemed obvious to me that we urgently needed someone who could hold and pass the ball not a high energy harrier like Lapslie. But he transformed the performance.
Please Mr Southall sign up Lyle and a defence in the summer.

The game changed as we took off a player in one position, brought on another in another position with a different remit a d changed our shape with it. Lapslie was brilliant with what he come on and did.
Not saying Oshilaja was man of the match or anything but he did a job in very difficult wind conditions and I find marks of 3/10 completely OTT and unfair.
I clearly saw a different game to most others.
I thought Bowyer looked a bit moody at the end of the game , why am I thinking he’s off at the end of the season for some reason . Hoping it’s just me expecting the worse and I’m mad
The result was absolutely everything so any other comments are incidental. I enjoyed the match. More so than the last two or three. To be frank, it was league 1 quality but watchable and entertaining. We were slightly more offensively minded than in previous games but with players not really looking comfortable in their positions. Second half was better and we deserved the win. Hats off to young George who I don’t rate but came in and did the business. Fair play young man. Taylor was immense. A one man pantomime. Just break the bank and sign the guy. We are now looking at the teams above us. We keep winning but can’t seem to really break away but with Hull and Boro dropping like stones we should be looking upwards rather than down. Luton are rubbish. Think it is them and two from six or seven to go down.
