Outsiders always think there are better jobs than Charlton, and, in terms of prestige, there are, but most people don't realize how big a club we are and that, at its best, the place has something special about it that keeps people who buy into it coming back for more. Bowyer 'gets' Charlton and we 'get' him, and that is worth something to him. If he keeps achieving here, I'm sure at some point he'll want a shot at a job with a genuinely big club that can challenge for major honours, but in the meantime he's looking at mid to upper ranking Championship teams who might be better placed short term but have similar long term potential to us. Why abandon what he started and walk away from all the good will he has here to a team that we very might well be ahead of in 12 months time with some canny investment? If towards the end of this 3 year contract the club is stagnating again, then that might be the time for him to move on but right now I think it makes perfect sense for him to reserve his seat on the bus.
It is a trade off between year 5 which was always likely to mean 4.5yrs (nobody runs a contract to mid season) to 3.5yrs and an adjustment to the financial terms. The reduced term especially If the club retain a 1 year option reduces their overall liability upon any termination.
Sensible outcome after a very messy process.
Next time guys keep it behind closed doors. The negativity surrounding the deal was a totally unnecessary distraction from the project in hand.
Had ESI and Bowyer simply announced new 3.5yr contracts for Bowyer and his coaching staff after 3 weeks in situ then we would be singing their praises and rightly so.
There really are times to not shoot yourself in the foot - no matter the personal temptation.
Perhaps we can all now get on with the job in hand.

Congratulations to all parties
And congratulations to me, I think that's the first post from you I've managed to read in full.
Definitely eased a bit of my stress. Now, what we need to do is find the players who will buy into the Bowyer ethos. I think with Gallen doing the groundwork and LB assessing potentials we could be heading into easier waters. The Charlton way is assured for at least three years.
£2k a week is probably the best bit of business this club has done in many years. We've had players stealing a living for many multiples of that. Lee will pay the wages back by the bucket load I have no doubt. Been refreshing this site for three weeks in anticipation of this news. Finally now we can get on with other business.
Great news! Let's not forget this is a new relationship between LB and MS. LB has never had an Executive Chairman at the club and MS has never been an Executive Chairman of a football club before.
Hope this signals the proper start of a stable, respectful and successful working partnership.

Where did £2k per week come from?
Wasn't his last contact 1 year for 500k? 20k a week could be right?

Sorry just going off an earlier post suggesting 'an example £100k pa' Whatever the actual figure, if he is on anything near an average first team player, of which it is known that ours are paid less than many others in the championship, then he is worth it, is the point I was attempting to make.
Fantastic news that BOW has finally put pen to paper. at least it will shut some of the negativity up and silence the IDIOT who said he did not deserve one as we had only won once in 16 Games. with a injured team and no money up to 3 weeks ago under Roland Rat that was a seriously moronic comment to make.
