Looking at the fixtures every 5 minutes.

Just had another work out and I've got us, Wigan and Huddersfield all on 49pts.
Only Barnsley and Hull below. Huddersfield would drop on GD unless we get thumped by Leeds/Wigan.
Where did Luton go? Do you honestly believe they'll win both their last games?

Also you think we'll win one of our last 3 or draw all of them?

I can see us getting 4 points, Leeds will collapse like always and they're against us - can we continue to be a bit of a bogey team for them?

Luton to get 6 points from final 2 games then to finish on 51?
  • Yeah, maybe the pessimist in me went into hyper drive for Luton but I gave them 6 points.
Fancy them to beat Hull and then on the final day vs Blackburn with nothing to play for.

If they get 4 points from those 2 games they will go down on 49pts with a worse GD

To be honest, I change my mind every time I look at the games.

I've got us drawing both Wigan and Birmingham and winning against Leeds... Yep some how my brain is listening to my heart and we'll go the last 3 unbeaten.... Silly heart.

Wigan's minus 12 takes them down in place of Huddersfield, whilst Luton have somehow survived!

If Sheffield get their expected 12 points, they will save Wigan, going down themselves.

  • I agree 49 will be enough.
  • 46 points could still be enough If Hull and Luton draw and lose their last match and Barnsley lose two games....

Yes this is the most optimistic view ever but it could happen....
  • Two draws could be enough but you'll soil your unders.
  • Win tonight and even leaving aside Wigan and Luton, it will be very tight between us, Huddersfield (48), Brum (49) and Stoke (currently 49 who play Brizzle tonight)
  • Dont know what it does to the table but reckon

    Charlton
: Beat Birmingham, draw with Wigan, draw with Leeds
Wigan: Draw Charlton, Lose to Fulham
Luton: Beat Hull, lose to Blackburn
Huddersfield: Lose to both West Brom | Millwall
Birmingham: Lose to Charlton | Preston, draw with Derby
Stoke: Lose to Brentford, draw with Forest

Unless Barnsley beat Leeds tomorrow then both them and Hull are gone

Although highly unlikely, we could actually stay up even if we lose our last 3 games.

Hull/Luton draw then both lose on the last day.
    Barnsley don't get 4 points.
  • I'm convinced that it will Barnsley, Hull and either Luton or us. All depending on the result tonight as I don't think we'll get any points from the final 2.
  • Now would be a good time to finally go on a winning run.....

That's an extremely biased set of results.

Every other side to lose a game except us?

I did originally put us down to lose to Leeds, apart from Luton though the others should all have opponents that still have things to play / prepare for

Luton to potentially draw with Blackburn instead of losing what with the latter done with their season
  • However things shake up over the next couple of games I'm resigned to us needing points when we visit Leeds. The only question is how many.

Charlton  - Beat  Brum, lose to Wigan and Leeds - 49
Wigan - Beat Charlton, draw with Fulham - 49
Luton - Beat Hull, beat Blackburn - 51
Huddersfield - Lose to West Brom and Millwall - 48
Birmingham - Lose to Charlton, draw one of their other matches - 50
Stoke - Lose to Brizzle, Brentford and Forest - 49
Hull - Lose to Luton and Cardiff - 45
Barnsley - Lose to Leeds, Forest, Brentford - 43

    Luton - 51
    Brum - 50
    Wigan - 49
    Charlton - 49
    Stoke - 49
    Huddersfield - 48
    Hull - 45
    Barnsley - 43

GD is really tight between us and Stoke. If Luton only draw with Blackburn, they'll be on 49 points with a worse GD

Yeah dont see Luton beating Blackburn (last day of the season though so anything can happen)

They didnt look particularly great when they faced QPR last night

For Huddersfield though it does look like its potentially setting them up for the double relegation

    .
  • As long as it isn’t at the expense of us, I’d be quite happy to see Luton survive. I must have done well over 100 predictors in the last two weeks looking at all permutations. If we win tonight And Barnsley lose tomorrow that effectively relegates Barnsley due to GD right?

Blackburn have nothing to play for though so not such a bad fixture for Luton. Think they'll get out of it myself.

Basically comes down to tonight for me.

Beat Birmingham and I think even with 2 defeats to end the season we would stay up.
Yes, I agree - it is all about tonight. Wigan and Leeds are the 2 ‘in form’ teams in the League and, based on their form and our inability to score, look like lost causes already. 3 points tonight should be enough. Failing that, draw tonight and Draw again against Wigan might just be enough on 48 points as the pressure will then be on Hull/Luton/Hudds/Wigan and possibly even Sheff Weds to get above us. I think Barnsley are pretty much gone.

Hull look lost too but Luton’s failure to beat a woeful QPR yesterday gives them hope in their crunch match. Huddersfield can’t score and have an inferior goal difference. I think Luton and Wigan will escape so I am hoping for a draw or Luton win at Hull on Saturday. The worst result for us would be a Hull Win. That potentially leaves Hudds and even Sheff Weds (if they do get the expected 12 point penalty) in trouble for the 3rd relegation place.

Anyway, a win tonight and there are potentially 8 teams below us with just 2 games to play. Surely, that must be enough?! Let’s channel the passion of 29th May 1987; the infamous Charlton V Leeds play-off decider. Skipper Pearce to step into the skipper Shirtliff shoes, maybe?

QPR didnt have anything to play last night though

Barnsley could lose tonight and still get 49, point more than Huddersfield have.

Barnsley play tomorrow - They then face Brentford and Nottm Forest

They'd have the greatest escape of the lot of us if they stay up

That's true I'm just saying it's not likely to be as tough as another time of the season so could see them winning.
Think even we have half a chance against Leeds if they're already promoted.
  • Man these permutations are hurting my head, we just need to win our games.  Take it one game at a time, yep we can rely on others but tonight we need to do the job on the pitch and we should be half way there.
  • What people are not taking in to account with their permutations is that we are total and utter chuff up front. We will do well to score another 3 goals never mind go unbeaten in 3 games.

I know its nice to follow your heart but lets just consider what we have been seeing on the pitch. No lack of effort - but if you're not good enough to score goals then there is only one outcome.

The only way we will stay up will be down to circumstance (points deductions) or other teams capitulating. Not saying thats impossible - but IMO we need Wigan and Sheff Weds to get -12 and for us to stay above them both.

So because we're chuff up front we're never going to score again?

Fair enough your head has to rule your heart but my head says we have to score again at some stage so why not tonight or in any of the other three games

Forget what hasn't happened in previous games... Its history... Its over
