Just been sitting here in lockdown boredom listening to "Time" and here's exactly why Dark Side was so successful.

People love their family, their friends, their football club. But in the end, the words resonate with everyone as they watch their meaningless lives slowly slip away. Then there's a beautiful Gilmour solo which oozes with regret and frustration like a paddling pool slowly leaking in the garden.
As you listen you somehow share deep feelings and anxieties which must never normally be mentioned!
I’m a bit of a fan of all things Floyd, I’ve seen them numerous times. The first gig of any band I ever saw, the first and second series of Wall concerts, Earls Court. And watched them on all the tours since, not that they did that many in the next 30 odd years. That spoilt me really. Their sound quality was way in excess of any other band I saw for years after. I used to go to clubs like Dingwalls or see bands at Lewisham/Hammersmith Odeon or Unl/polytechnics and always thought the sound was awful. Strangely enough I now wish I could recreate that raw live sound through my HiFi, a bit of a holy grail, you can’t, despite throwing money at it. It’s very unlikely we will see Waters, Gilmour and Mason again on stage together , all getting a bit too long in the tooth and I don’t think two of them would have a big enough stage. But the Aussie Floyd is a great night out and they can play, they don’t muck about trying to imitate Floyd religiously, they put the occasional Aussie slant on songs like, Wish You Were Here. I saw Nick Mason do his Saucerful of Secrets at the Roundhouse which I thought would be a bit hit and miss especially having Spandau Ballet Gary Kemp on stage but I was very wrong, it turns out he is a Floyd fan too. The live album is to be released this year. The one to see live for me is David Gilmour, his vocals are not quite as good as they were but his guitar playing is still awesome. Fat Old Sun live is much improved on the Atom Heart Mother’s version and Echoes, all 20 odd minutes of it is worth the ticket price.
I found them in the early 90’s when I saw a late night showing of Live In Pompeii. Mesmerised by the sounds and visuals. Just watching The Making of Dark Side Of The Moon on Prime.

Can't think of a song that more perfectly sums up the anxiety of a mid life crisis!

Agreed. The quality of the song isn’t the most important bit here.
Gilmour made the point that he has a far wider reach as part of ”Pink Floyd” than as “David Gilmour” and that’s why he asked Mason to get on board. The fact is, Pink Floyd have fans all around the world, including a huge following in both Russia and Ukraine. There’s no way their fans in Russia won’t find a way to see this and, although it’s just a song, it all helps towards raising awareness there.

Got tickets for the Aussies in Margate in November, hope it goes ahead but not holding my breath.
