Depends on the signings we get in and their quantity but it'll still be a shit show regardless. Cullen didn't sign for us until the end of the month last season and it took him a while to find a rhythm, so we're already too late to make a strong start and I think it's going to be a difficult first few months. Assuming Bowyer and Gallen do their usual good work and get in roughly what we need:

    Sat - 3rd August - Blackburn - Away - 0

    Sat - 10th August - Stoke City - Home - 0

    Sat 17th August - Barnsley - Away - 1

    Weds 21st August - Notts Forest - Home - 0

    Sat 24th August - Brentford - Home - 1

    Sat 31st August - Reading - Away - 1

As of today, I reckon we might scrape a draw in one game and lose the rest.  Of course, if we get six or seven quality players in this week, that will change my opinion that we are going to be doomed this season.

I’m not confident about getting any points. Rock bottom at the end of August. Bowyer sacked. Dresien in charge. All the staff walk out ... I can see it happening

7 points although that's being generous. Our lack of fire power during pre season suggests some low scores which could reduce that to 4, maybe 5 points.

I'm going for a safe 5. We will struggle and a lot will depend on who else comes in.

I can see us nicking a couple of wins and getting 6 or 7 points.

Only better if LB makes the sort of signings the fantasists here are dreaming about (Cullen, Bielik, etc)

I will go zero points, do not see a mid table league 1 squad getting any points out the games this month.

    Blackburn Rovers (A): 2-1 loss (0)

    Stoke City (H): 0-0 draw (1)

    Barnsley (A): 2-2 draw (1)

    Nottingham Forest (H): 0-2 loss (0)

    Brentford (H): 3-1 win (3)

    Reading (A): 1-2 win (3)

A total of 8 points, although we might nick a draw against Forest, too.  I feel like Stoke have been the draw specialists since Nathan Jones took over, and I think we can go one better at Barnsley than we did last season (so long as we don't start too slowly this time!).  Reading aren't what they used to be, but I'm feeling strangely optimistic for the Brentford game.  I imagine that Blackburn will be close-fought, but maybe just a week too early for us to get any points out of it.  Once we start to gel a little bit more with the newest additions (hopefully by the end of August), wins shouldn't be too much of a rarity for us.

Still, however many points we have after our first few games, it doesn't really mean too much: the last time we were in the Championship, we had a tough-looking start to the season, but managed to amass 8 points from our first 4 games (QPR, Derby, Forest and Hull), only to be relegated by as many as 9 points; whereas, last season, in League One, we only got 5 from 5 at the start of the season, and still went up!

These predictions assume that Chuks will be available, however; otherwise, you can take-off about 3 or 4 of those goals...
That season we looked like promotion contenders at the start. It all went wrong pretty quickly at Forest. We got a draw but because we were so much better than them they decided to kick us off the park and injuries uncovered the overall weakness of the squad. An issue that goes hand in hand with Duchatelet. To give an example, every season, including last, there have been games you know we are going to lose. Not that we might, but we are going to. Of course we have always lost games, but that certainty when the team lacks a few players belongs very much to Roland's rein.
  • Sat - 3rd August - Blackburn - Away - Loss

    Sat - 10th August - Stoke City - Home - Draw

    Sat 17th August - Barnsley - Away - Draw

Weds 21st August - Notts Forest - Home - Win

    Sat 24th August - Brentford - Home - Loss

    Sat 31st August - Reading - Away - Draw

6 games, 6 points. 20th in the table.

Wouldn't it be great if we got 3 points at B'burn.
Didn't we get 3 points the last time  ? at Birmingham?

a grim goalless draw might happen against the Tykes or the Bees so maybe 1 but we'll need a month of heroism from young Master Phillips and a big bucket of luck

It’s a funny old game. I’m now looking at the remaining four fixtures this month and thinking they are all winnable. I originally predicted only one point from Blackburn and Stoke...

Two home games with our long home run stretching over 300 days now.

Plus two of the “easiest” (if you can call any Championship game easy) away games also.

No reason we can’t end August with 12-15 points now.

What will be interesting to see is how we react to a defeat as we will have one at some point even though it’s 2 games in they are massive wins.

Yes it will be interesting - but May is a long way off so pointless speculating.

Looking at the remaining 4 of August, I think a realistic, yet optimistic, target would now be to get 13 points by the end of the month. What an amazing return that would be.

Did anyone correctly predict 2 wins from 2?  Mine was so bad I predicted we would beat Reading at home, we are playing them away!

Only joking - I don’t know you well enough to not be a twat.
  • Shows you how hard it is predicting football scores, and how quickly things change in football.

Soapy originally predicted 18 points ( I think we was having a laugh) then revised to zero!

No one on here bravely predicted and got right 2 wins for the first 2 games, long may we all be proved wrong!

That sounds about right. I think we need to pick up points as our first 8 games are relatively "easy", there's nobody that you'd fear whereas after that we have a tougher run
    Leeds H
    Swansea H
    Fulham A
    Derby H
    Bristol A
    WBA A

I can see us getting 5 or 6 points maximum from those fixtures

It's difficult to predict accurately when so much of your key transfer business is done at the end of the window!
