another great quote from yesterdays match was when sterling was in on goal and shot straight at the goalkeeper. Mark's comment was "well he got into a great position, he saw the goalkeeper coming out and thought to himself, hmmm." fantastic bit of insight.
At least Alan Hansen had the good sense to realise he was 20 years out of date and retired. Lawrenson just carries on stealing the TV license payers money.

His voice is ridiculous. If Eastenders was set in Liverpool and Dot Cotton was a scouser in charge of the launderette, she would sound like Mark Lawrenson.
His colleagues call him "Lawro", trying to promote the idea that he's "affectionately known as Lawro" to fans and colleagues alike, when in fact he's affectionately known as "that f%*king dickhead Mark Lawrenson" to surely every single member of the licence fee-paying population.
As a pundit he adds nothing whatsoever. As a co-commentator, he adds even less - his "witty quips" are intellectually on a par with what you'd expect from a toddler, but far, far more irritating.
The fact that he's still employed by the BBC is scandalous, but how did he get to become such a prominent member of their football broadcasting team in the first place? Some pundits divide opinion, most of them are, to some extent, a bit of a knobhead, but has anyone ever met anybody who doesn't think Lawro is absolutely excruciating. I know it's old boys network and all that, so I'm resigned to people like him making it into the mainstream media up to a point. But surely someone at the BBC could have said, "this bloke's a bit of a tosser, he can do Football Focus, maybe even the occasional international friendly if we aren't expecting big viewing figures, but under no circumstances is he to be allowed anywhere near World Cups, FA Cup Finals or Match of The Day!"

The BBC coverage of football in general is pretty poor right now. I used to enjoy the 5Live coverage, but they persist with another miserable over opinionated sod in Alan Green, and Robbie Savage..... well... do I really need to elaborate? Their coverage outside of the Premier League seems to be ever shrinking too (budget cuts perhaps?) and these days seems to mainly consist of the sycophantic 'Clem'.
So much better stuff available through podcasts these days, run by journalists and fans who seem to actually enjoy watching matches and take time to educate themselves on parts of the game that aren't ion TV every Sunday.

Players gathered for the tribute to Jimmy Armfield and the commentary team mentioned that he'll be a sad loss to the BBC (and after a brief pause); Blackpool... Seriously the bloke should be remembered for being an extremely classy Footballer first and his media work second!! - Especially in the world of Football we live these days where Footballers will jump ship the moment they can with the signing of a Contract not being worth the paper anymore!!

That prediction ends a remarkable run of results that, if it had actually happened, would have eclipsed the real-life achievements by Arsenal's Invincibles, who remained unbeaten for a record 49 games between May 2003 and October 2004.

He was a hell of a player though. Stylish and elegant and able to play for a full 90 minutes with a cat on his head.
