Quote from the club "this is a temporary issue and a consequence of significant and as yet unpaid sums of money owed to the chairman which in turn has impacted on the club's immediate cashflow".
Ridiculous excuse. Just because someone else owes the chairman money, the club haven't bothered to pay HMRC.

Swindon; bottom of league 2 after a 4-0 loss at Colchester this week. New boss Holloway has failed to arrest the decline, and a demonstration against their Australian owner Clem Morfuni is planned for later this month at the next home game v Grimsby on 21st December. Morfuni lives in Australia and is attracting increasing scrutiny and rumour about his past dealings and who he associates with.
A statement from the independent Club Financial Reporting Unit:
Morecambe Football Club has received a two-point deduction, suspended until 30 June 2026, for the failure to self-report on five separate occasions the non-payment of amounts due to HMRC within the required two working days.
The suspended points deduction will be activated should the Club fail to notify the League of any future HMRC default prior to 30 June 2026, as per EFL Regulation 17 – HMRC Reporting.
The EFL has been notified of the decision of the Panel.
