The France U21 captain has become the latest recruit of Charlton manager Alan Pardew as the Addicks boss aims to thrust the club back to the top flight at the first attempt.
The Valley club snapped up right-back Yassin Moutaouakil for 600,000 Euros on Wednesday afternoon, when the highly-rated youngster signed a four-year contract.
"I'm delighted to sign Yassin and we have very high hopes for him,” manager Pardew said of the player reportedly tracked by the likes of Aston Villa, Celtic, Everton and Lazio among others.
"He's a player that a number of clubs were very interested in and we're naturally very pleased he has chosen Charlton.
"He brings exactly the qualities we are going to need in the Championship next season. He's a very honest player who wants to succeed and he has plenty of hunger.
"He's a player I've been aware of some seven months now and he's going to be a great addition to our squad for next year."
The 20-year-old, who can also play on the left side of defence, already has two years' experience of the professional game having played for French second-tier side Chateauroux for the past two seasons.
He played 16 games during Chateauroux's 2005/06 campaign and 13 games last season for the club that reached the final of the French Cup in 2004, losing to Paris St Germain.
The speedy, attack-minded full-back was part of the French U19 team that beat England to lift the European U19 Championships of 2005, and more recently led France's U21s at the 2007 Toulon Youth Festival in June.
A Nice-born defender of Moroccan origin, Moutaouakil becomes Pardew's fourth capture of the close season following Luke Varney, Chris Iwelumo and Patrick McCarthy.
Luke Warm is a top wage earner so was always gonna one of the players leaving. As long as this Kid is fast & hungry to do well that's all I am interested in.
Looks like a bit of a transfer coup by Pards. I always have doubts about the validity of players being linked with certain clubs before we sign them, but the links with Lazio etc.. have some truth to them.
He had an on going dispute with his club about his next contract, they dropped him for a good proportion of the season and as his contract runs out next summer he is available for a lot less than his supposed worth
Basically it looks like we've signed him on the cheap on a long contract, and next Summer he will hand in a transfer request and move to Spurs for £5m.... :-)
He's a right back but can also play on the left.
Sounds good in some ways, but will be a big change for him. Let's hope Souly stays as then they can speak French to each other - always useful to have defenders who can communicate on the pitch!

With you on that one - would be great if Souley stayed, but will he drop to the Championship?

I'd LOVE Souly to stay - think he's almost captain material (depending on his prowess in English). Could be the rock in a Championship defence. He always looks very committed - but fear that's more to football than to Charlton. Depends if we get a decent offer for him, I suppose. Bizarrely I feel I'd almost be more upset at him going than DB going, as the latter is so expected.
Bougherra presumably speaks French and McCarthy is from the British Isles (cue arguement as to whether Ireland is part of British Isles or not) but whatever he's come from another English club and there is also Fortune an Gibbs. Wonder if this Rolando will also come.

fingers crossed.....
More like Thatcher if he is a left back, perhaps Thatcher was never going to stay if we went down

To the lyrics of the Who's Who are You?
Mou-a-kil, Mou Mou, Mou Mou
That Thunder! Lightning! tune:
He's like thunder! lightning!
Moutaouakil is frightning!
And not to disappoint:
Yass-in's on fire that fatal pass is all we need
Yass-in's on fire and all we'll sing is Mou taou-a-kil
I wonder there if this could lead to Song signing....
