Do people still listen to talk shite, can’t believe the crap they used to come up with. For the first year or so was quite entertaining but same old bollocks then came up week in week out.
Gave up listening to it years ago.
Agreed all they spoke about was the top 4/5 clubs every day and every week. Adrian Durham even had a daily Arsenal, although to be fair that was usually funny.
Barely listen to sports channels other than this for the same reason.
A mate of mine knows him quite well. He's a horse racing tipster goes by the name of Couch. I had a drink with the pair of them once and it took me a week to recover
Mark Winstanley..? Always rated him as a judge. Don't see much of him in the racing media these days unfortunately
He lost his dad a few years agand it hit him hard. He's also had some health problems of his own. Always entertaining when in his company A proper character.
his not wrong with what he said, let's be honest. Man united have Millions of fans worldwide, how many of them are truly tuning in to the Women's game, i'd even go as far of how many of them even know United have a womens team. 7/10 of them worldwide couldn't give a flying rats arse. If the game was equal, then Womens games would sell out week in week out and not be played at Non-League Stadiums and would have the same number of viewers when shown live as the mens game. We all want equality, but let's be honest, Mens and Women's football are Leagues apart. I have nothing against Womens football, but it aint the same.
For those who haven't seen it, here is the two minute clip that has been doing the rounds on Twitter (don't take the comment made by the poster as necessarily indicative of my opinion - it's the first link when I searched for "Alan Brazil" on twitter to the video): https://x.com/TomBowenJourno/status/1887485447963570210
I don't think Alan Brazil is wrong that more people care about Mission 21 than Mission 1. Also, without context, I don't know if this is the first time the women's game has been brought up when discussing Man U, if it's something at the end of the segment, or whatever.
But his attitude when it's brought up here is condescending. Women's football is just as important as men's football, in the sense that it is important that it continues to grow, and football can be seen as more inclusive in that sense. Economically though it's a drop in the ocean compared to the men's game and that's beyond debate.
If the rest of the conversation has been about the men's side, and then Shebahn has (rightly) said "btw there's also the women's game as part of this stated Mission 21 and Mission 1 plan" and then Brazil has just dismissed it, then yes he is being a dinosaur. If she's consistently tried to pivot it round and present it as if they're equal in terms of current importance, then that's shoehorning in an argument.
Without the full segment to hand though I don't know, and this is likely some selectively cropped ragebait for us all to feast on.
Cheers for sharing Pad; fair play to Brazil for not giving in and towing the line like so many others do on various topics these days. Definitely one for the "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it” bin for me.
The way I see it they’re both wrong and right at the same time.
Absolutely unquestionably more United fans care more about the success of the men’s team. It’s ridiculous to argue otherwise and the same goes for pretty much every women’s team that is associated with a professional men’s club (I’m sure some smart arse will say “ah, but Helsinki United Women get better crowds than the men’s team” but you know what I’m saying). The reason their fans care more about the men’s team is, in part, due to history. United have built a massive following over 100+ years on the back of relatively enormous success in the men’s game and they are miles off that standard today.
That all said, women’s football is growing at a phenomenal rate. Some WSL games get massive attendances, the England Lionesses are well supported and some of the players in the women’s game are becoming big stars. If United need to improve the performance of the men’s team so they can reach the standards that have been set for them historically then the reason they need to make sure their women’s team are competing at the right end of things is to ensure they don’t get left behind by Arsenal, Chelsea and City whilst a new history is being written in the women’s game.
As for the presenters - Brazil is one of those few who can get away with things that others can’t, it because he’s hilarious and flawed at the same time.
Obviously opens up a whole debate on women’s football sexism etc etc I think Brazil is right on this and 99% of Man United fans would agree
If we as a fanbase had a vote on whether the budget for the women’s team should go to the men’s team for a promotion push I’m pretty sure how that vote would go as well

You’re right, but that’s a slightly leading question!

I don’t think Brazil got away with anything there. He voiced an opinion and stuck to it. If anything, Shebhan is the one that got away with something as she resorted to name calling. And as we all know, once you revert to name calling, you’ve lost the argument.
I think what he said is right to some extent, he could have just put it across much much better.
If he did though, he would be stating the obvious. Most people know there is nowhere near as much interest in women's football as men's. It's growing of course, and the standards are getting better, but it will never be the same.
On the subject of controversial football stories though, I'm currently seeing this more of a talking point than Sam Kerr literally being racist. Really surprised the lack of punishment for Kerr currently. I don't think she should be able to play football again in a professional setting.

Until the court case is finished, no punishment from Football can/should be carried out

Why? Surely there's rules and standards in the professional, and unprofessional game for that matter, that can be broken without breaking the law.

Body worn is from 2023 which is surprising, that we are only just finding out how bad it was. This would be career suicide for most people.
Just find it interesting that there seems to be more uproar about Allen Brazil being a bit daft on a radio show over one of the best women's professionals being blatantly racist.
The way I see it they’re both wrong and right at the same time.

Don't some of us on here know it, and usually by the same individuals.
If women's football is equally as 'important' as men's football, why is it they attach themselves to men's football clubs? We know why. Because they aren't financially viable on there own because there is a much lower interest. I think its great there should be clubs where girls / women can play football but lets not kid ourselves about how popular a spectator sport it is. I was watching the news last night and the young runner was suggesting reasons why people don't watch athletics other than in the olympics or similar - 'its a bit old fashioned' 'its not marketed' etc - no!! its generally dull. Within 20 minutes of being at the olympics, the slow hand claps, mexican waves and all that were coming out - because its boring. Same applies to womens football. It's a water down version of the real thing, both in terms of players and fans (atmosphere).
Just watched the clip not sure what all the fuss is about, he gave an honest opinion as did she.
On a side note, how many of our fans ever attended a Charlton's women's match or look to see their results on a Sunday. Very few I would suggest..
and how many wished the funds that go into the women's team were spent pushing the boat out on a pacy winger?
I do not like Methven, but watching his latest podcast it is very clear that he is not a fan of women's football with Charlton as it is taking money away from the men's team.

Don't disagree but football has been doing it this way for a long time

i agree - if premier league clubs want to be philanthropic with all the money swimming about there, fine, but for the rest ??? Again, i think the govt should step in here if the women's game needs a leg up - there must be a way of carving out some tv money to help it without expecting lower league teams to fund the losses.
Women’s football has grown impressively over the past 30 years in my individual opinion. However Alan Brazil speaks for ‘most people’ so that’s all right then.
mainly because its financially supported so much by the mens game.
The men’s game is hardly financially independent.
what on earth do you mean? theres no government subsidy, the money earn't from Sky is because it has a market value, and if rich men invest in it its because they know its marketable and popular.

As the majority of people who kick up a fuss don’t actually care about calling out genuine wrongdoing. They would rather play white knights to people they perceive as victims.
Speaking of Brazil and Talksport, did you hear the run in he had with newsreader shebahn Aherne this morning? She had a similar spat with Jeff Stelling last week. She makes my teeth itch that woman. Proper anti-English as well. She was getting some serious snipes in during the Euros but because it was about 5 in the morning I doubt many heard them. I've got to the point that whenever I hear her I switch channels.
Remember when she said the Spice Girls are better than the Beatles and Jeff had a bit of a tongue in cheek argument with her, she seemed to completely misread it and got a bit serious throwing in the "60 year old bloke so must be right" line (or similar).
Think she reckons she's in line to get their job as main anchor tbh.
EDIT* Also remember her ribbing Brazil about getting his dog put down. Think there was something in the news at the time about people getting their pets cloned, and she turned on Brazil about his family dog. He said to leave it, but she kept on at him. Tell the mark of a person who'd even ask in the first place, let alone keep on when they've clearly hit a nerve
If anyone tried ribbing me about having my dog put to sleep, they would end up in intensive care - christ she sounds like a poisonous piece of shit (I don’t listen to TalkSport)

Just to clarify, his dog is still alive. However, she asked if, when the time comes, he would consider having "ol' Hugo cloned." He basically told her to stop and that he didn’t want to think about that sort of thing, but she kept pressing, thinking it was funny. Honestly, it was very awkward to listen to her expose herself as having no filter whatsoever—and a little bit heartless.
