Lyle Taylor has revealed his dad sent him a text taking a dig at Roland Duchatelet after the Charlton Athletic owner refused to sanction a striker signing.
We broke the news on Monday morning that Addicks manager Lee Bowyer’s hopes of bringing in another frontman – ex-Wolves and Cardiff forward Joe Mason – had been ended by the Belgian tycoon.
Top-scorer Taylor said: “I was sent the article on Monday by my dad, along with a play on words of the chairman’s name – something used to clean yourself in the toilet.
“The way I see it, you back the manager. He [Duchatelet] has decided he doesn’t want to back the manager. I don’t know what his reasons are. I’m sure he has his reasons, because most people do for the things they do.
“There is absolutely nothing we can do about it in the dressing room.
“Would we have liked another one in, so that we change games? Yeah. Are we going to get that opportunity? Absolutely not.
“What can we do? I feel for the manager, Steve Gallen [head of recruitment] and the staff in general – they must just feel they are banging their head against a brick wall. That’s similar to how the fans seem to feel.
“I don’t think it is going to change. I don’t know if he [Duchatelet] is even going to sell the club. He doesn’t seem to be that interested in anything Charlton, or anything helping Charlton at the moment.”

Bloody hell, he's not held back there. And I'm very grateful to him for it, especially as he's a current player. We've had a few digs after the fact when players have left, and Yann really tore into him after he was sold, but this is the first time I can remember a key player really going out of his way to criticise Roland. And probably the first recorded instance of a player literally calling the owner a douche.
It must be frustrating for Lyle. We've seen he's an honest player, and he throws himself into everything on the pitch whole-heartedly. He's had a great half a season running himself into the ground and now he's basically being told it might have been for nothing as the owner is only interested in lining his pockets. Doesn't bode well for Lyle being around next season if we don't go up; he sounds like he wouldn't want to hang around with Roland still here and Roland will be more than happy to shift off a player publicly criticising him at the first available opportunity
Wonder if we'll see one of the bigger winning margins for POTY this season
Almost certainly, I think Taylor will run away with it but I hope players such as Sarr gets a good amount of votes too.
Taylor is showing himself to be proper Charlton. His effort and determination on the pitch, add a little bit of skill on top, and then you have his attitude, personality and soul off the pitch. He gets it he really does, and if Taylor gets it, with the influence in the dressing room I am sure he is, you can be certain that everyone from Bowyer down is feeling a pretty similar way.
Of course our support for the team has never wavered, and for us to get promoted this season we need to almost be that extra signing Roland won’t sanction, we have the ability to drive this team on to win more games. But it’s now for the first time in a while that I feel the team and the supporters are starting to feel as one towards RD. We can only hope that we use this passion in a positive way to get us to be where we really need to be. And as I’ve said previously, it will be of no help from Roland. Quite frankly, it could well be one of our biggest achievements in recent history, but with Taylor leading the line and getting it like we do, I feel we have a good chance.
Is this the time where Roland gets in touch with Bowyer and tells him not to pick Lyle? If so, Bow should call his bluff, as he won't be sacked (it would cost RD money) and he will get another job once his contract runs out anyway. Maybe Lyle should also consider playing out the second season of his contract (whoever is left at the club) just so that his transfer fee (should he go in the summer) cannot go into RD's pockets!

They are doing their best, along with Bowyer and JJ, to get the club either promoted directly or through the play-offs and yet see the team being weakened at a crucial time of the season. I think, along with @Garrymanilow that he will be gone at the end of the season unless 1) RD sells and buggers off 2) we get promoted and money is spent by RD on beefing up the squad. Outside of either of those I think he will go as soon as possible. With Lyle openly criticising RD and the news of The AVC coming out today, may this move RD to give up and go?

I wonder if the gap will be closer (Sarr and Bielik would probably second and third, but not neccesarily in that order for me) with people maybe casting their vote elsewhere because they think that everyone else will vote for Taylor

If we get promoted and that's a big if, there is absolutely no chance of Roland spending money to beef up the squad. He may sanction the bringing in of various free transfers to bring the squad numbers up to the bare minimum. Other than that he will expect whoever is manager to promote youth players into the first team squad.
Takes balls to speak out like that. Cements the bond between the fans and the team, because if that’s how Lyle feels you can bet your bottom dollar that other players feel that way too.
What it does tell you is there's a clear feeling within the playing side of the club that the club is not in a progressive state.
When you are coming up to both a promotional run in and a time when you want to tie players down to longer contracts, that's the exact opposite of what you want.
With Douchebag still i charge I think we will lose (some loans) - Bauer, Sarr, Aribo, Cullen, Marshall, Taylor, Bielek, JFC, Vetokele, Maxwell, Purrington, Williams, Parker, Reeves & Fosu
We will never ever get that many replacements in that match the quality of the ones leaving, I still think the worst is yet to come with Roland
It is astonishing that there are still some posters on this forum who still give Roland the benefit of doubt regarding his intentions for the club. In the last few weeks, one said that in securing Lyle Taylor, Roland had shown that he is prepared to back the club for a promotion push. Well, here is Lyle Taylor saying he isn’t!
It is incredibly rare for a current first choice first teamer to criticise the owner of the club he plays for in such an unambiguous way. Good player and a great bloke!
