Didnt realise was nearly out of contract... Cant see us signing him without a takeover, regardlesscafcfan1990 said:
I don’t think he would. He’s in League 2, MK aren’t the richest club and he’s out of contract in a few monthsCAFCsayer said:Why are people even suggesting Aneke... He'd command a sizeable fee

I asked you this before golfie, maybe you didn't see it, what decent striker can we get on loan to sit on the bench? I can't see any.golfaddick said:I'll add my two penneth to this debate......
You could have Gordon Banks in fecking goal but if Taylor gets injured then you can kiss goodbye to the play offs. We need another striker........Ajose & Recco cant score for toffee & Igor is injured (And even when fit didn't look like he would trouble the scorers).
As you were......1 -
Would be more impressive work by Gallen and while I understand the Phillips predicament, it's all really about not trying to chase promotion with AMB in goal.Redrobo said:Maxwell is a great signing. Can’t believe we have captured such a good goalkeeper. Let’s hope we sign him or Steer on a permanent in the summer.

Have noticed of late that Phillips has been throwing the ball long rather than kicking? Could that be because he accepts that his kicking is more unpredictable than that we became used to seeing from Amos and, more latterly, Steer?
On a far more grander scale, wasn't this the reason Guardiola replaced Hart with Ederson?
Having watched every Charlton keeper from Willie Duff to Dillon Phillips, so many of those struggled with their kicking - Tony Burns (as other olden's will remember) favoured the long throw out, and the only weakness in Dean Kiely's game was his kicking.
However, the game today seems to demand that the keeper goes long with almost precision kicking and those that cannot demonstrate this skill on a consistent basis are put under pressure to improve or risk being replaced by someone who can, no matter how good they at the other aspects of their game.
I sincerely hope that Phillips has a long and successful career at The Valley, but fear he has now reached the crossroads.
If he now makes way for another loanee, I suggest that he won't be with us next season.
However, if that loanee makes Charlton a better team, even if only in the short term, I will welcome him with open arms - which is probably why I was a crap keeper when I played many decades ago.6 -
But to raise money to pay Ajose off.shirty5 said:

How about, sign Aneke on a permanent deal this window with Ajose going to MK Dons on loan for the remainder of the season? Not that Nicky will be happy with that at all, but he’ll be free to leave in the summer and MK Dons have a good chance of promotion this season.cafcfan1990 said:

sorry to derail the thread, not sure why people get bashing @paulie8290 again for no reason, everyone flags im afraid and then he ends up with several. bit harsh that..
Back to the thread though, agree would be harsh on Dillon though, but again if the other keeper has the experience its hard one to call. Dillon is still young so will have plenty of time still to make it at Charlton or go elsewhere if he needs to. There is definitely a decent keeper in there0 - Sponsored links:

To be fair to Dillon I thought that his throwing on saturday was very effective on the counter.Isawsummersplay said:Have noticed of late that Phillips has been throwing the ball long rather than kicking? This x1000. Was going to pipe in and make the comment. The mistake with Phillips isn't so much this season, it was last season. We couldn't get a second keeper in as cover for Amos, so Phillps was forced to sit on the bench all year. There's a case to be made that was a problem the year before as well. although I think him being the #2 and being around the senior squad wasn't as big of a waste as it was last season, where he desperately needed to play. Now, we're now in a no-win situation with Phillips.killerandflash said:The mistake was not getting in another keeper last season, and giving Dillon a proper loan spell at a league club, as I suspect he'll leave at the end of the season without any of us knowing whether he's good enough or not, which is frustrating
I feel like because there are a couple who think he's awful, that everyone who wants a second keeper is tarred with the same brush. I don't think he's awful. I think he's a brilliant shotstopper on his day. His throwing looks very strong. I think he has weaknesses in his game, which you fully expect with a 23 year-old who has had only one season of playing regularly. But I think those weaknesses--coming for the cross, long kicking, short, quick kicking, getting down low to his left quickly, will be exploited in this league and it will make it harder to get promoted than it was with say, Steer, and maybe now Maxwell.
That's not to say he's shit. It's not to say he hasn't been treated unfairly and been given a raw deal by the club with his development. It's just where we are right now. I really hope he re-signs with us at the end of the season and we can give him a proper go either as #1 or give him a loan spell to play regularly. I would understand if he didn't want to sign with us.5 -
Unfortunately, so much now is either "GOAT" or "shit" and there is nothing between.
Philips is a decent keeper at this level at least and has done well in games. He certainly looks a better shot stopper IMO than Steer and his distribution, a secondary consideration after keeping the ball out of the net IMO, is OK. His long throws are very good.
Now, Maxwell maybe better and if so it makes sense in the short term to play your best players.
The view should be Philips good, Maxwell better but so often is it "I prefer that player so the other player is "shit" rather than giving a rational view on strengths and weaknesses.

Christian Doidge recalled to Forest Green Rovers from Bolton, was due to sign for them but Bolton haven't even been able to pay his wages for the last four months let alone pay the fee they agreed with Forest Green to make the deal permanent in Jan.
Was a target for Sunderland in the summer and rumoured to be in talks with them again.0 -
Already played for 2 clubs this season. We’re only at January 8th and Lee Bowyer has already added Jonny Williams and Chris Maxwell to his squad but the Addicks boss isn’t stopping there.
Speaking after the signing of Maxwell he said: “We’ve been working hard all the time, in the build-up to January 1st, we’ve been looking at players, we’ve been looking at left backs. That isn’t going to stop. We’re going to keep doing that to bring the right people in.
“Will there be more coming in? Yeah, there will be, hopefully sooner rather than later just to bolster the squad a little bit. The way the injury situation is at the moment we need a bit of help. With players coming back from injury, we need everybody fit, as much as we can, so we can have a good run.”

I get the joke and lol’d the comment too, but in League Two with some horrific defences and the amount of goals/chances MK Dons create and score, Ajose would probably get a hatful.Stu_of_Kunming said:

Don’t know why your swearing at me Paulie. All opinions like I said . The fact that Bowyer has looked to sign players ahead of him in previous transfer windows and potentially this suggests maybe he thinks he isn’t up to scratch long term eitherpaulie8290 said:

What has he done for you to say he is shit.
He made some brilliant saves earlier in the season and was only dropped due to his Distribution which can be worked on
1 thing he is not is shit
Support the fucking players and dont slag them off for doing nothing wrong0 -
So that is Ward out and Williams in.
Steer out Maxwell in.
So we haven't gone backwards. We may have slightly gone forwards if those two are an upgrade on who they are replacing.
To make this a good window we need to not lose anyone from now on and sign a left back. I wpuld snap your hand off if you offered me that for the window.
Add in another Striker and we would have had a very good window. Lose a couple players and it all changes.19 -

I think back to when we signed Danny Haynes under SCP. He wasn't a replacement for either BWP or Yann, but then he wasn't signed to automatically sit on the bench either. He was another option, giving us something different13

Competition for places is good for everyone. If whoever we get plays so well they end up dislodging either Grant or Taylor then that is a good thing as the team will be better.Covered End said:

If they don't then they will provide an extra incentive to push the G&T to be even better.
Whoever comes in doesn't have to be brilliant just offer something different to what we currently have... and be better than Ajose.4 -
The main plus is the fact despite only replacing like for like is that the Ward out / Williams in deal means we have an extra loan spot available in the squadcantersaddick said:So that is Ward out and Williams in.

Any news on a left back?0

I know they have been speaking to several LB’s. Our budget was the issue with one of them. Don’t know about the others.5

Said this many times before, including on here. Getting in another striker for a different option up top could be the difference between promotion and not.killerandflash said:I think back to when we signed Danny Haynes under SCP.
