Did anyone else clock how much Gordon Taylor earns each year from the PFA, (last year £2.2 million pounds + expenses). Hes been doing the job for almost 40 years, Im suprised its taken so long for someone to question this or challenge him in elections.

    Highest paid union official in the country I think. Has been plenty of comment about it over the years but nothing has changed. If his members are happy to pay him that, he gets it, I guess.

    he was bailed out over gambling debts a few years ago whilst he was earning a mere million a year .. something stinks to high heaven in the 'union' .. good article in yesterday's 'Times' (Matthew Syed) about this and how the PFA spends or doesn't spend it's money on player development and welfare .. Taylor should have been sacked over the debts affair, it left him open to blackmail and bribery .. it seems when it comes to 'dictatorship' techniques, Putin could learn a lot from Gordy from Ashton

    The PFA Chairman, Ben Purkiss, is leading the charge for a review of the Union and gaining a lot of traction from current and former players. Taylor’s last reported salary of £2.29million is more than three times the amount paid in benevolent grants to the members of the union he represents. The best paid union baron in the world.

    Pretty disgraceful stuff, especially Taylor’s efforts to remove Purkiss from office on the grounds that he’s a non-contract player at Walsall.

    How many players are in the PFA? How much are the players’ union subs?


    Just checked the PFA is a registered charity.

    No idea but I do know it’s the TU with the highest proportion of membership for those eligible to join. 100%

    Second is Society of Radiographers at around 85% or was a couple of years ago.

    Really makes my blood boil,bastards like this with their snout in the trough seemingly un challenged,when so many ex pros from lower leagues could do with a few bob to help them out(which is what unions are supposed to do)Get rid of him,someone will do it for a fraction of the salary and the rest can go to places it should do.

    The overwhelming bulk of the PFA’s income comes not from membership fees but from a percentage of the billions in television money made by the Premier League clubs. Last year was the first of the 2016-19 vastly increased £8.4bn deals, and the PFA’s income from television fees went up from £19m to £26.6m. (The Guardian).

    So, he takes a 2.3 million salary from the 27 million the PFA gets annually; predominantly from TV deal money that they negotiated to 'ensure' players wouldn't go on strike!

    PFA is just a microcosm of FIFA and the rest of them - corrupt!!

    Taylor is an antiquated disgrace and should have been ousted years ago. This time I think he's done!!

    Simon Jordan on TalkSport last night absolutely crucified Taylor and the PFA. Like him or loathe him, Jordan is an astute character who knows his stuff.

    Football is rotten to the core, I was listening to H&J on Talksport yesterday lunchtime and caught the end of an article in which they were saying FIFA is in a worse state now than it ever was under Blatter.

    Gianni Infantino is supposed to make Sepp Blatter look like an angel.

    Did his members agree he should be paid that though? Robbie Savage questioned this, asking who voted for it and how is his salary justified?

    He also said that as far as he was aware, there are no invites to members to attend the supposed AGM's that take place and there hasn't been a vote for at least a decade on whether Taylor should still be in charge.

    Much as I detest the chaos that is caused by Len Mcluskey and Other Union bosses,they are always fighting for their members and represent many thousands of people,they get a fraction of Taylors salary and do ten times the work.What has this sanctimonious prick ever done for the lower reaches of our sport.Why is he allowed to trouser millions when maybe 5 or 10 grand would be a life sver for an ex lower level player fallen on hard times.Players from lower leagues give as much pleasure to their fans as the over paid prima donnas in the premier league.It is about time someone was elected in Taylors place who will do the job properly.

    In my experience all Union leaders earn considerably more than their members.

    Perversely Taylor's earnings are probably more akin to the average wage of his members than those of many union leaders when you factor in the earnings of Premiership players and even some Championship players.

    Not defending Taylor's lack of accountability at all but Union leaders in general exemplify the inherent hypocrisy within the socialist ideology in my opinion.

    I agree that most union leaders are hypocrits and earn more than their members.But who does talyor represent,he wont ever get involved in players wages,work conditions or hours,like ordinary leaders,so what does he do,how many proffesional players are their in England,a guess,92 full time clubs,say 30 -40 pros per club all have agents who will do their negotiating with clubs for them.Why in heavens name do we need a players union at all especially one which costs millions which could be spent elsewhere.

    He's been earning millions for a long time, and he's not just failing the players now, from what i've read he's been failing them for a long time. So why now?

    Paul Elliott has resigned as a trustee of the Professional Footballers' Association.

    The former Aston Villa, Celtic and Chelsea defender was reappointed as one of the charity's nine trustees in September 2015, having resigned after only two months in the post in 2013.

    On Thursday, he resigned for a second time, saying the move was because of his personal finances.

    "We wish him well while he works through these issues," the PFA said.

    "I was victim to a financial fraud several years ago," Elliott said.

    "I lost a significant amount of money and as part of my efforts to clear my obligations, which I take incredibly seriously, I explored entering into a financial arrangement that I knew might impact on my eligibility as a trustee of the PFA.

    "On seeking initial legal advice, I was informed that the arrangement would not impact upon the eligibility criteria. However, following further clarification from the Charity Commission, it was confirmed that it would cause an issue. I therefore chose to resign my position as a trustee."

    The PFA and its charity arm have been under scrutiny in recent weeks.

    Only way FIFA could have been fixed wad by appointing someone who hasnt been involved with them previously!!
