Harsh on Burns but Bairstow, bar a dry spell last summer, has been good for 2.5 years

Ah, thought for a while the team had been selected, but this is just your team.
That would be really harsh on Burns, especially in view of the chances Jennings has had - the selectors wont be that spiteful on him- he'll keep his spot.

Be ridiculous and very unfair to leave Burns out after 1 test. We need some longer term plan.
Is the wicket going to be that different that we need 4 seamers in Kandy?
Doubt it. Like to see Stone play but I think he will have to wait. Win the second test and he can play in the third

Pope has been sent to you the lions in Pakistan - will play a couple of first class and one day games against them.

Makes sense now as Foakes in going to keep for the whole series so he will be competing with Bairstow and Buttler (and the rest) for a batting spot. No point him being there and not even being back up batsman...

Seems that they want Buttler to go in at 3 - and he's happy to do it.

Getting rid of the Surrey players one at a time

England in the Women's WC are playing Bangladesh.

After 12.5 overs Bangladesh are 42-4 of which Ayasha made 39. There has been 1 wide so the other end has contributed 2 runs!!!

There's going to be quite a lot of absurd inequality in that tournament until it's down to the usual suspects, where the women's game has leapt forwards

    With 4 ducks.

76-9 off their 20 overs. As bizarre is that their innings included 4 maximums!

    St Lucia looks lovely.

Nice platinum duck there... Let's see the review

Plumbdiddlyumptious. And there goes the review. 77 is looking like a good score etc.

Two wickets down... But some lousy fielding in the deep, and the wicketkeeper just bust her nose fumbling another catch. I'm a fan of women's cricket, but the quality is... variable

I think "variable" is a bit of a euphemism. We have made their bowling look good by throwing our hands at the ball instead of just waiting for it.

Just seen some of the highlights so far.

Can they make the outfield any smaller?

Just got back from a cracking week. Cricket was excellent. Sorry I didn’t get round to meet you Redman.

Excellent four days at Galle Cricket club. After initial worry about getting tickets managed to spend 3 days actually in the Galle Cricket club section. Many others locked out though but could watch from afar from the fort.
Good also to meet and have a drink or three with Bangkok Addick.
    Fair few Addicks scattered around.

Redman and I were hoping you would come and find us. Were you the owner of either of the two Charlton flags?

Same team, Stokes to bat at 3, Ali at 6. Bairstow fit but not selected.

Despite playing football at a reasonable level in my time, I have a real phobia whenever I see a football appearing at a cricket ground as much so when I see my club use it as part of a warm up.

I've heard club, county and even England players say that it is great to have a kick about before a match as it helps to bond the side. The flip side for Bairstow is that it has cost him his place in the side and almost certainly the gloves long term. In the final game of last season Kent's Ivan Thomas did his ACL in the warm up game sois now out for six to nine months and may even struggle to play at all next season.

These are just two examples so the question has to be - is it worth it?

The answer is it's daft. Footballers warm up for best part of an hour before playing football. What makes cricketers think can use it to warm up. Totally amateurish in my book.

    Stokes at 3?
    🤪🤯🤮

The great Mcgrath turned his ankle on a cricket ball and cost his team the ashes, accidents happen.

Re Bairstow and the gloves, I'd I was a betting man, injury aside, I would wager he keeps in at least 2 ashes tests next summer.

Was always going to happen. We have a multitude of all rounders these days and that is understandable due to modern cricket. I really don't think we will see many more 100% specialised international cricketers is any discipline. We pick 11 all-rounders and slot them in wherever.
Why does it matter if the majority of the teams runs come the first 5 wickets or the last 5 wickets as long as they come?
I don't actually agree with that but it seems the way England are going.
To be fair to Stokes he showed on more than one occasion last summer that he has the game to play Test cricket as a top 4 batsman as did Butler too. I wouldn't have been surprised if Butler had got that slot and he may well at some point.

8 that average 30 is better than 5 that average 40. The fact we don't have 4 of the 5 makes the situation worse.

I read last week, that if Denly had batted at 3 as the 3rd spinner in the first test, Broad would have played instead of Curren. They left Broad out as it would have ment Broad or Leach batting at 9.

I am happy with the top 3 in Sri Lanker but Starc and Co must be licking their lips.

He did indeed tread on a cricket ball. He was playing touch rugby and it was a "stray" cricket ball. The rumour that it was one of many rolled by the England players while the rugby game was going on is purely a myth.

Stokes to me has showed more defensive discipline when batting than Bairstow, Moeen or Buttler, so it's the least worst option...

I am glad they have gone with the same team, and I hope Stokes does a good job at 3
