It's not just about winning Jim, it's about hope, dreams, and the future. You don't think all is well with your kid just because they are breathing and standing up. If they have cancer inside them, it will kill them eventually!
What a terrible and disappointing report. It's as if this journalist has been encouraged to explore an interesting and important story and, at the last hurdle, has been seduced into soft-pedalling by the subject matter.
Some people think you can buy good publicity. It seems that cost is a plate of steak and fries.
Duchatelet obviously has other skills apart from being an entrepreneur... he’s a hypnotist. When I click my fingers, you will think I’m a charming man ..... And, wake up
Jesus H. Jim White you should be better than that, he bought you with a dinner and the fact he has a few quid, Its so easy to impress the easily impressed, and thats how the likes of The Rat get people on side. Oh well, Whites true colours have been shown to all and now we all know.
Can someone tweet Jim Shiite please and let him know what we think.
To a certain extent I think he is right in that if we were not winning and at the bottom of the table I am sure their would be more protests/actions. That being said, just because we are winning most fans views on RD have not changed and they still want him to sell up and be out the club as soon as possible.
Sadly Jim comes across as a real tosser in that article, and after all his posturing, does not really seem to get it at all.
What a plonker Jim White is! Very few fans support Duchatelet and the way he has run the club yet Jim is impressed by our billionaire owner. I'm speechless really.
I think the winning bit may be a second order factor but the important bit it is that he seems to be committed to selling.
If that changes, even if we get promoted and he says ‘look I’ve changed, here’s a realistic budget for the championship and a business plan and I’m not involved any more away you go bowyer I’m keeping it’ then there would be protests.
There are several strands here which require further exploration.
In the first instance, I detect something amounting to more than just deference in JWs appraisal of RDs character and presence – it’s almost akin to awe.
Because the not so hidden message in the piece came across as ……here am I, little old Jim White from humble beginnings in Glasgow, interviewing a billionaire who has chosen me for this very important task to be an intermediary with the fans (who by the way have presented a totally biased picture to me of how the club has been run) – and look how successful I was!
For JW goes on to say that:
…funnily enough it has gone quiet at Charlton a) because he has spoken to me and b) because they’re winning.
Well, correct me if I’m wrong but our current play-off position is very much par for last season so it’s not a surge in form post-Interview and any on-field success has been achieved not because of Duchatelet but despite him.
Plus, in any event it is not (as every critic of Duchatelet makes clear) IT IS NOT ABOUT RESULTS. This is where Jim White falls foul of constantly being in the presence of ex-footballers rather than fans (with the exception of Bob Mills).
At the end of one of the Talksport lengthy discussions about Charlton – during which many of the faults of the regime had been explored and had aroused a greart deal of sympathy for the fans position in wanting rid of Duchatelet, Jim White turned to Danny Murphy and asked him what could turn things around at Charlton – Murphy replied with one word ‘results’. At a stroke and with one single word Murphy undid all of the detailed analysis which had gone before and JW bought it!!
But even more seriously than that, with his Metro article Jim White has lost all credibility as a journalist. He has committed the cardinal sin of not reporting on a story but becoming part it, indeed a leading protagonist in it.
This is the only construction which can be deduced from the prime reason which he believes has led to a cessation of protests against Duchatelet – his point a) because he has spoken to me.
The interview was valuable because it provided confirmation yet again of the deluded state of Duchatelet’s perception of his ownership of Charlton and his continued readiness to put the blame for the club’s troubles on anyone but himself.
And yet Jim White seems somehow to believe that all is now rosy and that the interview provided all the answers we were looking for and has somehow turned everything around. Incredible.
Jim White grew up in Glasgow so he will know a thing or two about fan passion and he will know from the relatively recent experience at Glasgow Rangers the deep hurt which can be inflicted on a Club by an errant owner.
But he has the audacity to suggest that he Jim White has undone over four years of both told and untold damage inflicted on this club simply by going for lunch and subsequently being charmed by someone well versed in the art who is in a position of wealth and responsibility.
Jim White – you no doubt started this process well intended but you have done a massive disservice to yourself and journalism by your inflated sense of achievement expressed through your Metro article. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Also, those 'neutrals' who read this tosh are now left wondering why Charlton fans are making such a fuss. This 'journalist', in one article, has done untold damage to the cause of getting rid of Roland. He has made us appear whingers who are only up in arms because of which division the club are playing in and will be easily placated by success on the pitch. Shocking.
White, for all his fawning and non understanding is right with the results conclusion.
Look when we got into the playoffs, it was twice the attendance of previous matches at the Valley. And if we were in the relegation places then there would be more protests, football fans are their own worst enemies, thats why I bang on about boycotting games. If people bitch and moan about Ratty then give him money what do you expect, your lose any credibility and put yourself in a position of weakness when it comes to explaining to non fans about our club. They just say well if its that shit why do you go? And there is no logical answer other than selfishness of the football fan, I should add that it is bloody tough not going so I kinda understand .
Where White is totally wrong is his non understanding of what Ratty has done to the fabric and tradition of our club and that the fans have lost their way engaging with the club, so we dont feel part of it, as well as those fans that will never come back because of his mismanagement of our club. And for me this is the most important failure of his stewardship.

He has bosses to report too and needs to toe the party line. No way was he ever going to slate RD on the radio or in writing.
