Surely Hazard will go this year?

Can't imagine Chelsea will be too keen to sell him though as they've got a transfer ban so can't buy a replacement

Real Madrid currently losing at home to tiny Eibar, whose entire population could fit into Madrid's stadium three times.

    Finished 2-1 Real Madrid

Big game tonight Barcelona home to Atletico Madrid.

If Barca win they open an 11 point gap and Atletico will only be 2 points ahead of Real Madrid

Cursed poor Eibar with my post! Still, very impressive how they hold their own against teams so much bigger than them.

Come on Atletico tonight. Anything but a win for them will pretty much give Barca the title. Not very hopeful though - Atleti haven't beaten Barca for years, even under Simeone.

    Straight red for Diego Costa.

He got right in the refs face and said something to deserve a straight red.

When will he learn, his team face an hour against Barca with 10 men because he lost his cool

Diego Costa to referee Gil Manzano: "I s**t on your f***ing mother".

    Yeah that'll do it.

Ridiculous from Diego Costa (although I have to say that it is a pretty common insult here) but Barca and, Real Madrid players are always getting in the ref's face as well without any punishment.

20 to go still 0-0 Barca will be furious if they don't win this

2 quick fire goals Suarez then Messi

That will be the league title for Barca then. I'm hoping that Atletico can stay ahead of Real to finish the season as Madrid's top team. Then we have the Champions League final here at the end of the season, hopefully with some English representation.

The race for fourth and the final Champions League place is still interesting too. While it's obvious each year that it's only the big three that will be challenging for the league (although Sevilla started strongly), there have been pretty varied teams finishing fourth and ending up in the Champions League in recent years: Villarreal, Valencia, Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad along with Sevilla.

This season Villarreal are in a relegation battle but any of the other mentioned could get Champions League along with the surprise overperformers Alaves and Getafe. Today is Getafe v Bilbao so a huge game for those two.

Last gasp equaliser for Leganes has ruined Alaves hopes

Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa has been banned for eight games after being found guilty of abusing a referee.

The former Chelsea player, 30, was sent off by official Jesus Gil Manzano during Atletico's 2-0 defeat to Barcelona.

Manzano said in his match report that the Spanish international had "insulted his mother", a claim Costa denied.

The Spanish Football Federation's ban rules him out of Atletico's remaining La Liga fixtures this season.

Costa, who can appeal against the ban, received a four game suspension for insults to the referee and a further four for grabbing the official's arm.

Great article on Joaquin and Real Betis here:

The Betis fans are some of the best in Spain and I loved the atmosphere in their Benito Villamarin when I saw them there, even though they lost 0-4 to Eibar!

Big win for Getafe today over Sevilla in the battle for fourth place and Champions League. If the little team from the outskirts of Madrid can finish in the top four they would be the smallest Spanish team to make it into the Champions League, which would be a huge achievement especially as they only got promoted to La Liga two years ago after a year back at the Second level.

Getafe now sitting 4th and are 3 points clear of 5th place with 2 games to go. Their average crowd is less than 11k.
  • Options
Valencia already 3-0 up, so going 3 points behind Getafe, and making a dent in their goal difference advantage as well.

Getafe still have to go to Barcelona, Seville have to go to Atletico, Valencia have to go to relegation-threatened Valladolid.

Interesting final two weekends coming up.

Rayo Vallecano mathematically relegated this weekend so not all great for the Madrid teams. Would be brilliant to see Getafe get that fourth Champions League place though.

Valencia kicked off 6 points behind Getafe, with a goal difference interrupt by 7. Not even half time, now 5-0 up, 3 points and 2 goals behind!

It’s not done on goal difference, it’s the results between the teams that are level on points.

Valencia win again next week and Getafe lose to Barca and it’ll be level points going into the last day.
if Sevilla can beat Atleti too then it’s 3 teams level

Cheers for clarifying. Valencia have a win and a draw against Getafe, so would just need to level the points up to finish above them then.

Always think head to head record is a much fairer way to separate teams than goal difference.

Actually I thought in Spain it was done by goal difference if it’s 2 teams level but head to head if 3 or more are level.

    might be wrong though

I thought the premier league sides chasing top 4 had been poor this year, but Chelsea and Spurs still have 70+ points.

    Getafe have 58.
    Valencia and Sevilla have 55!

Ex Real Madrid player Raul Bravo is one of those who has been arrested. One of the three games under investigation is Valencia's 2-0 win over Valladolid this season that secured them the Champions League place.
