Five minute highlights of the Newcastle game are on the Championship YouTube site. Skip the first minute if you'd rather not re-watch the hosts scoring from their first two attacks. It gets better after that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxZhlcSnm-0
Don't think I've ever seen Elisha N'Dow get shown up quite so badly. She looked like her job was to make sure to stay 3 paces behind Hayles at all times
Killer Hayles, the 24 year old, English born, Jamaican international, scored a hat trick but the chance that was missed/saved which would've made it 3-0 was the seminal moment, along with Amber Stobbs being sent off for an impetuous kicking the ball away in the 83rd minute for a 2nd yellow when 3-1.
3-3 and it never over until the Large lady sings; I thought that in added time last night at Barnsley !
Deserved nothing from that, even if Southampton's goal came after an unfortunate ricochet. We showed very little creativity, and our only chances were Newsham's shot which was deflected onto the bar in the first half, a header cleared off the line early in the second, and a late deflected effort which the keeper tipped around the post (and which only came after one of the worst throw-in decisions I've ever seen – 2006 v Fulham level bad, only in our favour).
Having started the season so well, it now feels like a long time since we've won a game.
They had a high press and our lot struggled to get the ball out from the back. To many attempted passes intercepted the Southampton players. Lucky they put many passes out of play and poor at shooting at goal.
I think this was probably the worst ever Charlton performance I have seen.
Team selection was wrong if a win was the intended outcome, Goals need to be scored.
Tactics were completely wrong. Playing out from the back was never going to work with Southampton pressing hard.
The time has come for the owners or management to make tough decisions. Whoever it is that holds the tablet when substitutes are coming on needs to get a sense of urgency or go. Beth Roe (in her hundredth game for the club) was clearly struggling and should have been replaced much sooner.
Alternating the keepers shows the lack of management. The defence is in need of much better players.
I think we need to be careful not to lose sight of the relative sizes of clubs here. Yes, we're one of the full-time sides not part-time but nowadays that only means being safely outside the bottom three or so clubs. This isn't League One where we're one of the biggest clubs and should be expecting to be in the mix for the playoffs. Everyone except Durham in this division has a bigger club than Charlton behind them, or in the case of Lionesses has a rich owner who's focused on them.
Southampton are a good side and they came set up to defend and try to nick something. Yes, if we're serious about aiming for WSL we need to be a lot better than we currently are, but we haven't suddenly become a bad side.

Is it? There aren't many in the division better than Beth Roe and Kiera Skeels in their positions. N'Dow has dropped off alarmingly in recent games but is usually excellent and there's obviously not a huge amount of trust in Pearse yet but Newsham started well and has done alright. McKenna was certainly a loss at left back but overall we're talking about a defence that conceded the fewest goals in the league last season, we're just giving them far too much to do this time round.
I don't like what Hills has done this season, she's tried to offset our lack of goals by going to a very flat shape and lumping the ball up for Barton to win and Brazil to run on to, or for us to put in crosses from out wide and hope someone turns them in. It's relatively Curbs-like but the problem is we don't have that x-factor player like a Curbs team would always have. We've sacrificed any pace or guile for a solid system but the cracks are starting to show in the set-up and we've been reliant too many times already on late goals to rescue us. Without Addison and sometimes Johnson we just don't have any pace out wide and I'd much rather see us combine what worked the last two seasons, having a quick, decent finisher in Brazil to fulfil the role up front while having a bit of pace out wide and a 3 in midfield to shield the defence further. We should have been looking to keep our solidity while improving that front 3. In midfield Mia Ross is obviously a loss and as much as it's impossible to not feel affection for Bashford she plays far too much for a team looking to win the league. Humphrey and Filis are too inconsistent as creators and our backline feels very exposed when players run at us. The refusal to pick a keeper has been weird for a couple of seasons now and has to stop. It's all fixable and it's very tight at the top but much like the men's team when the defensive solidity goes away you do start to wonder what you're supposed to be seeing in its place sometimes.

Beth is a great player and always went forward in the Oakwood days.
The current tactics mean that 90% of the time she passes backwards. Beth in full flight was always a threat to the opposition with the ability to defend when necessary.
This is why I say there needs to be changes in management of coaching team.
Kiera is being asked to defend and play midfield. Mary Bashford needs to loaned out again.
McKenna is a big loss who has not been replaced by anyone of the same standard.
Interview with Ellie Brazil on the Guardian. She comes across as an incredibly positive person . Got a lot of time in particular for this quote: 'I’m very grateful Charlton have given me the ability to get minutes and gain confidence. Neither of my two ACLs had scored a goal yet, so it was a new one for them both, and they’ve both scored now so fair play to both knees! '

Palace are currently only selling tickets for the league cup game to season ticket holders. Unfortunately due to the way their system is set up that means only ST holders can find out what the ticket prices are going to be, even though clearly they've been set by now. I hope they won't be too upset if I gently suggest that the game isn't going to sell out and there's really no need to be secretive.
The prices for the Villa game are what they charged for their game against Palace at Walsall. Possible they may be cheaper for us as we're not WSL opposition
Not the worst set of results for us today. Everyone is beating everyone, only 3 points between 2nd and 8th, with Birmingham 3 clear at the top, but 2nd - 8th all having a game in hand on them.
Then there are the bottom 3, who are fighting between themselves to avoid the 1 relegation place.

There are 2 relegation places. One northern team and one southern team will be promoted.

I thought there was only 1 this year because of Reading withdrawing?
Then they were going promote 2 sides to bring it back up to 12 teams, instead of 11.

Your correct.
As a result of Reading's demotion, the Championship will have just 11 teams in the league next season (2024/2025), with only one relegation place. The second tier intends to return to 12 clubs and two relegation places in the 2025/26 season.
Tickets for the Palace game are on sale. If I'm reading their announcement right, segregation only applies for WSL games so for the league cup we buy tickets from them rather than from the Valley. Seated tickets are allocated seats, standing tickets are general admission and you can stand where you want. Seats £12 adults, £5 under 16. Standing £10 adults £5 under 16. Tickets are sent by email a couple of days before the game. The game is at Sutton's Gander Green Lane ground.
Don't forget we play Bristol on Sunday at the Valley.

I'm off to Wembley on Friday, for a repeat of Euro final!
Never a penalty, she wins the ball, feet aren't high, it's not 2 footed and the opposition makes a meal out of the contact on the follow through
