The Aussie radio station "Triple-J" has a series of in-studio performances called "Like A Version" where artists take a song and rework it and perform it. I'm sure there are people in the wrong hemisphere who know more about it. But there are some great ones, arguably none moreso than CHVRCHES covering Arctic Monkeys' "Do I Wanna Know?"

yeah they do something similar on Radio 1 live lounge. an artist picks a song and covers it. i don't usually listen to radio 1 but fortunately i tuned in to it the other week and got Rag n Bone man doing a cover of gimme shelter by the stones. not bad.SDAddick said:The Aussie radio station "Triple-J" has a series of in-studio performances called "Like A Version" where artists take a song and rework it and perform it. unfortunately i had a look on youtube and most of the sessions seem to be chart pop stars covering other chart pop stars. lots of Drake covers. shame really, not sure if they are told to cover a chart song by the BBC or if they actually like the music they are covering. i mean, Drake? seriously?
anyway here's that Rag n bone man cover -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYTLxoEcVF0

Patti Smith's version of Prince's "When Doves Cry". Loved the Prince version - but Patti Smith's version has more emotion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ue58EoHOOtY. but then I'm a big Patti Smith fan...0

Almost anything by Ten Masked Men, death metal versions of well-known pop songs.
There are some dodgy ones but Staying Alive, You Spin Me Round, and their Madonna covers are quite good.1 -
No cover of Enjoy the Silence can possibly hold a candle to the original. Because it is the best so g ever written.
However, Tori Amos' version is infinitely better than the execrable symphonic metal version posted above:

The Fall: White Lightning, Rollin Dany, Victoria and Mr Pharmacist.0

Always liked their version of Victoria. Don't think the other three really count as "well known" though? Of course I know White Lightning and Rollin' Danny, being an old rock n roller. Their White Lightning reminds me of a toned down Cramps. Thanks for introducing me to Mr Pharmacist!Stig said:The Fall: White Lightning, Rollin Dany, Victoria and Mr Pharmacist.
