Not only was I amazed to discover that Paul Gambaccini is still alive, my mind was blown to discover that he is 76. I swear he was older than that when I was a kid in the 80s.

...and the answer to one of my favourite trivia questions:  "Which Carry On regular was nominated for an Oscar?"

Barry McGuire born 15 October 1935.

Singer famous for a big hit in 1965 called Eve of Destruction.

One hit wonder possibly but what a hit it was.
  • I recently listened to the Rosebud podcast featuring Petula Clark who was 93 this month.

I tried to imagine this scene that she described as being like from a film - maybe it will one day?

in London's Criterion Theatre during an air raid, she and other children were recording messages for the troops. The theatre was underground, making it a safe space during the bombings of London. While rehearsing a song, the orchestra joined in.

Her performance captivated and calmed the audience who rose as one with the orchestra to congratulate her - she was 8 years old.

An obvious talent from the off - she came over as extremely modest and quite naive.

He also was the lead singer on "Three wheels on my wagon" by the New Christie Minstrels: quite a contrast!

I thought he was absolutely terrific and a fine gentleman.  I will never forget him beating Eusebio Pedroza for the world featherweight title.
