I reckon it will all be over by this evening. Our batsmen are like rabbits caught in the headlights at the moment. ffs, Its Nathan Lyon, not Shane Warne, Get down the track & knock him off his stride - ping a few back over his head or sweep it, don't just stand there and prod at the bl***y thing.

Moeen has looked like getting out every ball he's faced so far, which I'm taking as a good sign

So so disappointing to lose Root five minutes before lunch.

Is a lead of 180 really good enough? We'd need Anderson or Broad to rip through three, four, five wickets very quickly.

Root gone just when England were looking like gaining some initiative - Moeen looking in the mood though. Can he be a hero?

I’m up watching, phone on charge so wasn’t on here. Just had a cheese toastee and staying sat upright so I don’t wake up on sofa at 5am again although I.m fearful our innings won’t last much past tea.....

After seeing the ginger partnership at newlands I’d feel much happier if stokes was there with bairstow....

Only decent thing that came out of that session was the scoring rate - 3.19 per over. We need more of that, but sadly I still feel we'll give them less than 180 to chase and they're knock them off with wickets to spare.

If Stokes is free to join the team, I'd have him in for Ball, but would Moeen go back to number 8? I guess a lot depends on how he goes today. Quite enjoy the idea of putting Bairstow at 8 and telling him to play his shots

Huge partnership between Ali and Bairstow now. Got no confidence in anything that follows them. Fingers crossed we can post them a target 250.

Steve Smith is the best batsman in the world.

This is what happened when my club came up against him 10 years ago. As you can see we were pretty confident at tea!

Ali playing nicely and Bairstow started confidently. I'm quietly optimistic

    Blimey that was tight
  • Ali gone. 155/6 lead of 129.
  • Hope our tail can rescue this and get the lead to at least over 200

Bairstow & Ali were going really well - now we've come to a complete stop. 8 runs in the last 9 overs. Need to be a bit more positive.

Oz commentary team unconvinced on the stumping. Think that's the game to them now

Vaughan and Ponting making the point that the line is thicker towards the middle and if the width of the line was consistent, Ali might well have been in.

FFS another crucial wicket minutes before the end of the session. First Root and now Bairstow.

Bairstow gone for 42. Stupid stupid shot.

194-8, lead by 168. Broad, Ball and Anderson left.

Bairstow is talented enough to be a top cricketer, fast enough to be a top rugby player and thick enough to be a top footballer.
  • As well as was batting, that wasn't the most sensible of options - guiding the short ball straight into the hands of third man.

    194-8 and ahead by 168

We set trap after trap for him; he resisted.
They set plan after plan for us, we bought every one; Bairstow the latest.
  • Well that was one great review - Paine was the only one that went up!

The ball clearly missed the bat.

But "Technology" says it didn't. Snicco is sound, anything can cause sound.
