Has the England A series started yet, as Wood is on that? If he can get himself fit, he can move over to the main series1

Anderson looks like he was struggling with an injury.

People keep going on about Smith. Yes, very good player with a great eye, but have we ever tried to bounce him out? I dont recall there being one bouncer bowled at him whilst i was watching - yet it seems to be a staple diet for the Aus bowlers against us.or is it also a case where we dont have the bowlers to do that?
There were a load of bouncers at Smith. He ducked most of them and played one or two.The_President said:People keep going on about Smith. I found it really strange and extremely disappointing that Anderson & Broad didn't bowl after lunch.
I can only presume that they were too tired, having bowled more than the others, although they didn't look it and / or Anderson was either injured or unwell. We let them off the hook.
I thought we did ok at the end only losing 2 wickets.
It was very difficult against a fresh attack, who could give it their all for only one hour.
Cook getting out hooking was plain stupidity. We really needed him to play the anchor role.
Aussies have to be favourite, but it should be easier tomorrow and if we can get them to chase 250 we have a chance.

Ok, so who recognises our "main fan" in this, the first guy up singing ?Chrissy\\\'s Army!! said:Love the Barmy Army!
I asked last year but no one recognised him. I'm 99% sure he supports Charlton and I used to see him home and away donkeys years ago, but now haven't seen him for possibly 20 years. His hair used to be shorter.0 -

Only problem with that is it will take us around 100 overs to get there, which will then take us into the 1st session of day 5. If we stepped on the gas a bit we might get it done by end of play on Sunday, but then doing that we risk being all out for 180 by tea & then they knock of the runs easily.Covered End said:The_President said:People keep going on about Smith. I can't see us winning this & a draw is going to be hard too as we always collapse when in this position.
with a nod to oohah; 10% England win, 30% Draw, 60% Aussie Win1 -

I think the Aussies are going to run away with this game. England have got a mountain to climb. The Aussie bowling attack is very potent. I don't understand The President saying that we didn't try to bounce Smith out. From what I saw we tried everything. Smith knows his game very well and is so difficult to budge. I agree that Ball is not a Test Match bowler. We are badly missing a fit and firing Wood. Also, obviously, we are missing Stokes with the bat and ball.

The Aussie bowling attack may be very potent but this pitch isn't. I can see England scoring quite a few3

How he manages to follow England everywhere, does he still go to Charlton ?0 -
I don't see this huge mountain that England supposedly have in front of them. Neither team posted better than par scores in the first innings and England have runs on the board and an albeit very slender lead.
Aussies ahead as it stands but not by a country mile and the situation is very much recoverable for England. The question is can two or three English batsmen show the kind if patience amd resolve that the likes of Smith and Marsh did for them.
The only demons in this pitch are that the batsmen can't score as quickly as they would like.2 -
I think the first session tomorrow is going to be crucial...0

Totally disagree. If Australia pick up a couple of quick wickets of Root and Stoneman we are deep in the smelly stuff with Ali, Bairstow and Woakes needing to dig us out of trouble. If we can get through the Morning session without conceding a wicket we can start to build a bit of pressure.Exiled_Addick said:I don't see this huge mountain that England supposedly have in front of them. So what you're saying is if England play well they can win. If they don't they won't. Well excuse the bluntness, but no shit!dickplumb said:

Like I said, the Aussies are favourites from here, but a mountain to climb would be if they were 100 + runs ahead.
Both sides had spells in the first innings where they batted patiently and spells where they lost wickets quickly. No reason to expect the second innings will be so different. We just need to make sure we're more patient and take wickets quicker than they do.
I wouldn't rule out a draw yet either. This is what makes test cricket so great, the way momentum in games can change hands multiple times before you get a winner.0 -

Wasn't he due to go on the Lions tour, before he got injured? I guess maybe his injury was known about at the end of the season. Anyway, tell him he's better than Jake Ball (I think he probably knows this already) and to get well soon, from all the Charlton fans on the internetMrOneLung said:Finn replaced him.
