  • Anyone doing the Bromley 10k on Sunday at Norman park?
Wish I could but my knees can just about get through a 5K, heard it's a good course the 10K๐Ÿ‘

3 laps of the running track and four of the park. Iโ€™ve been doing a bit of training down there as itโ€™s flat so hoping I get my time. Good luck with the knees stan ๐Ÿ‘

2 laps, but only this bit of the park

  • Running 11 nights ago I was feeling good near the end so decided to end with a sprint finish (I never sprint finish as I never feel good near the end!)

About 10 strides from my house in the dark I must have landed on an uneven bit of pavement and went right over on my ankle. Absolute agony and ankle and foot ballooned.

7hrs at hospital the next day, uncertain from X-rays whether there is a fracture due to the amount of swelling. Sent for a follow up CT scan last night and get results on Tuesday.

Mentally Iโ€™ve been on a huge downer since and basically been laid up on the sofa for 10 days. From the tip of my toes to halfway up my shin Iโ€™ve had ever colour of bruising imaginable.

This morning is the first day Iโ€™ve felt like itโ€™s improving. Praying itโ€™s just a really bad heavily swollen sprain and I donโ€™t need any surgery. Doc said if so then the best outcome would be maintaining the protective boot for 4-6 weeks.

Donโ€™t realise how much I miss running and golf until I canโ€™t do them, so hope everyone really enjoyed their runs.

    Iโ€™ll be back! ๐Ÿ’ช

ps. Have been really impressed with the efficiency at QE
Sorry to hear that boss, hope youโ€™re on the mend soon.

  • Sorry to hear that AFKA. Completely get the mental situation when you can't run or do any kind of fitness activity. Reallyvcan get you down. Hope it's not anything too serious and you can  get back out there soon.
  • Take care of the ankle Afka, injuries are really tough in that area of the body, you'll be on the mend in no time!

Wishing you a speedy recovery Afka .
  • Speedy recovery! Got my worst ever time today, 31 mins, but was late so ended up at the back having had to leg it there, so probably my own fault.

Random question, had a health screening for work and seems I've got high blood pressure. Trying to figure out if running will help or hinder... Probably wait until I've taken a weeks worth of readings then see what the GP says, but I think it's been high for a while
  • It was quite a few stops on the central line for me on Saturday, to a very enjoyable Northala Fields parkrun.
A one lap course around two artificial hills and if you have any energy left when you finish you can climb to the top of either of  them, and take in some 360 degree views of London.

did you miss a couple of hills? there are 4 there, made of the rubble from the old Wembley stadium, you can see the new stadium from the top. parkrun tend to use photos from there in a lot of their promotional shots as the hills make a great backdrop

I must remember to lift my head up a bit more when i run ๐Ÿ˜‚   Lovely view from the top of them.

  • Sorry to hear about the injury @AFKABartram it can be frustrating and I know I tend to get short tempered when not able to exercise. Hope it is nothing too serious and you will be back out there soon.
  • Battersea again, just an average event free morning

  • The foot spa at Kettering never deeper than today, so a squelchy  run round, but having kept the 28 pacer in range and passed him on the long run in, I was annoyed to find he was off the pace and so recorded my slowest time this year of over 28 by a few seconds. Get him sacked....  Rubbish! ๐Ÿคฃ
  • Thanks @kigelia

Torn ligaments. Two and a half weeks now and finally starting to see improvement this week so can move around a bit with the boot and crutch. Got my rehab exercise programme yesterday so will see how it goes.
    Ouch! Hope recovery is swift.

A very muddy Catford for me yesterday, including the loop around the site of The Mount.
  • Thanks @kigelia

I hope that you bounce back quickly and come back stronger.

Beckton was my destination of choice yesterday.  I can't work out why this parkrun has such low numbers. It's run by a great bunch of volunteers, a flat two and a half lapper around a nice little park in a residential area.

I hope the healing process is quick, @AFKABartram.  I'm always getting told off by Mrs Hex because I run head down and miss lots of nature ... but there's a reason !  She tripped and fell on the All Hallows KFL today - that'll teach her !
  • Thanks all
  • I had torn ligaments in September although not quite as badd as yours, it was not fun. Managed swimming first then cycling then a bit of running after about 6 weeks and have done a lot of yoga having never done yoga before.

Today ran 1 second over my treadmill personal best on one of the treadmills that links with apple watch (annoyingly i didnt know what my previous best was from back in July 2023) and felt there was quite a bit of speed left in the tank.

So while it's bad now, the rehab can be quite fun and i'm sure you'll be back in no time ๐Ÿ˜€

I think it's a demographic thing - it's not a particularly well-off area and the people moving into the newer flats will be closer to Victoria Dock, and the A13's a bit of a barrier on foot. They're a lovely crowd there though, it's amazing that they've kept it going all these years.

Hope she is ok. That course was tough, there were a few injuries during the day.

She's fine, thanks.  It sounded quite risky.  She said someone slipped over and was taken to hospital and that was before the race !

That is indeed the case. There are some issues with the course in my view. Although I got round a minute faster than last year so
it clearly wasnโ€™t that bad. Although most people I spoke to reported being slower this year
