I don't think any club has to allow entry after half time I may be wrong but I am sure that once half time is reached there is no obligation for the club to Honour access
Not that I agree with it but I am sure it's something I have heard
They don't have to let you in with a ticket at any time. It's private property and they can refuse admission to anyone they choose with no reason supplied.
You would, however, have a legal claim for a refund - which might fail if you were that late - and if the grounds were considered to be discriminatory against protected characteristics they would get into a lot of trouble.
In the facts are as stated this sounds like a pointless decision by someone who couldn't be bothered to help. My advice in such circumstances is to insist on speaking to the safety officer, who wouldn't behave in that way because he's a fan too.
He is also the ultimate decision maker in such matters.
Hi. Thanks for the responses to this. It was a shame. There were lots of stewards around though so it didn't seem like a big ask. I know rules are rules but I'm no trouble and was perfectly polite.

Would you mind telling us all exactly what rule we are talking about.....what reason was given.....did they give you a cut off time for late entry refusal for example? If so, we all need to know for future reference. Who decides the precise moment or is it somehow magically conjured up by some lazy, thoughtless, bloody half wit jobs worth security personnel? Is it half an hour after kick off, at the half time whistle, at the whistle for second half kick off......just when does this mystery time frame kick in? Just for the record, they would have ended up calling for the police had it been me or one or two others I can think of........I'd have been going ballistic as I think would most of us! In the meantime, may I suggest anyone who has this problem in the future ask to speak to Mick Everett......he's chief safety officer and Charlton through and through.....he's yer man in these kind of situations and would without question not see a fellow Addick put in such a distressing position, though naturally enough on match days, being very busy, he might not be able to respond immediately. Apologies to all if you think I'm going a bit OTT on this, but for some reason this shyte treatment (yet again), of a fellow Addick has really got me riled, albeit on someone else's behalf.
I was told the rule was they didn't have to let you in after half time. I was with my other half who isn't a regular, so didn't make a fuss as I didn't want her to associate going to The Valley with trouble. The whole thing was disappointing / frustrating enough without me kicking off. Her final thought was, "That seems strange, you'd think the club would want you in there supporting the team"....

They 'didn't have to'. So they could have done.
I'm afraid i wouldn't let that drop. Complain in writing.
I thought there was something formal about not being allowed in after half time. I certainly remember some planned protest actions last term out being adjusted because there was no guarantee even with spare tickets of moving from lower to upper west at half time as it involved leaving the ground and then admission to upper could be legitimately (or otherwise) denied.
So it's clearly been a thing for a while but I don't know why...

There's a very big difference between "we don't have to" and "we won't." BP.....can you remember if they said the former or the latter? As I said earlier, for the sake of clarity, fans also need to know if this edict kicks in at the time the half time whistle goes or when the whistle goes for the restart? I hope to get the answer tomorrow. Whatever way you look at it you were treated with disdain my man and acted with a great deal of restraint.....which I doubt many of us would.
Not being allowed in at half time is a bit silly. But what was a lot worse was trying to leave at half time when we lost 7.1 away at Luton many years ago. Being made to stay for the whole 90 minutes was nothing short of cruelty.
He said "we won't let you in". We'd had a hell of a day up to that point. And the steward was clearly being unreasonable / unhelpful. Any normal human would have seen he was being ridiculous. And we were nothing but polite. And we were certainly sober. But too tired to argue. Watching Charlton win would have been just what we needed! A waste of a Saturday afternoon, £40, and an awful lot of travel time. I appreciate rules are rules. But discretion and goodwill should also come into play. It's not like I turn up late every game!

one of the craziest things I've read about the club, someone has to answer for that surely?

I always thought fans should feel as if they are valued.
I have definitely had it said to me that no club has to let you in after half time
I just wish I could remember where I was told I get the feeling it was when I used to get 4 comp tickets for the directors box and a meal and we used to take up two and keep two so we could go out for a fag at half time
Martin Simons used to be down there having a cigar
One sat he wasn't there with us and the guy on the reception said it I am 80% sure that's where I heard it
