HENDRY has it. timlin down the line, Solly steps in, Kashi now, Ferdinand gets it, Mag on the run after Ferdinand, pulls him back. They take the FK, White now has it, goes left, then back to White, Clarke pressures him and they go long, we win it and counter. Holmes then fols McGlashan.
FK cut out by JFC, Kightly closes him down, Fosu then flicks it past someone and falls over.
Cox and McGlashan work together, Cox fouls Clarke and we get it back. McGlashan fouls Kashi nastily.0 -

Hendry collects the ball from our long free kick, but Clarke closes them out. Fosu now, gets it to JFC, inside to Mag but Kightly gets in there and Leonard clears.
We have a throw, and I guarantee we are all surprised to hear it.
Clarke now, to Solly, but Kightly steps in and clears. Throw again.
Solly takes, finds Kashi, Solly scamped across but it ends up back with Amos. Pearce on the left, inside to Kashi, then to Bauer, now to Solly, finds Holmes in the channel. Crosses, but Oxley collects.

Used all our goals up against Oldham! I remember from years ago probably 94 that we would score 4 or 5 in a game and then draw 0-0 in the next game!0

Everything was just a little bit off in that first half. Southend look much sharper than us.1

Some good football from two decent teams who both lack cutting edge.
They are much tougher physically. We better technically.

Interesting half... Bit like Northampton with both teams having phases on top yet would say Southend have edged it.
Our final ball certainly looks more threatening than theirs yet even our own isnt quite there just yet... Clarke once again our best player going forward yet its Pearce and Dasilva who are our best players... the former has made a ton of interceptions whilst Jay really does have a Football brain!!
Kashi needs to stop dithering, could have cost us a few times1 -
Good half of football. Dasilva looks very impressive down the left. Both teams had chances. Kashi looks good but has played a couple of casual passes to let them in0

We look a bit more threatening going forward but our two best players are the BFG and Pearce. Could go either way and I wouldn't be surprised by a draw.1

Good summary. We definitely grew into it though. It just seemed that when we got tackles in they'd fall to Southend players. Everything just a little off in the final third. Still not a bad half of football. We have a very technically gifted team. Pearce has been immense. He's not always the tidiest, but he has also looked very good on the ball at times.
Southend have done a really good job of man marking Kashi in particular when our center backs have the ball, forcing us to go wide and/or long. Also, you can see why, despite all his troubles, Nile Ranger was an England youth international through U-21 level (I believe) and why teams stick with him despite a jail sentence, he is a very good footballer at this level.
A little more calmness in our possession, a little bit more quality in the final third and the goal will come.1 -

Nothing has really clicked yet going forward but there have been some good chances, Pearce has been immense.1

First game of the season and can only assume we are poorer than normal today.
Kashi and J-FC have been disappointing.
Pearce immense.
Some decent forward play and an improvement on last year, undoubtedly, but we are not at the level I thought we would be at.
Hopefully it's just a below par 45 and we turn the screw in second half.
