  • I just love the music threads and am still yet to whittle my favourite songs down in order to contribute to the desert island discs thread.

But what are your favourite music albums? I was thinking that we could all vote for our top five music albums and after a while I could present the results if we have enough and there are multiple votes for the same records.

I think the rules should be that if more than five are listed by one voter, the top five will be counted and no greatest hits compilations.

Over to anyone else who wants to vote while I think over what mine are...

I like your idea Addick in SW16. I'm just thinking we could play this like a knock out competition where albums are drawn against each other until there is only one left.

  • The River - Bruce Springsteen
    Aladdin Sane - David Bowie
    Transformer - Lou Reed
    Parallel Lines - Blondie
Bridge Over Troubled Waters - Simon & Garfunkel
  • I have read that digital music has hastened the demise of listening to whole albums so it is interesting that many of you still seem to do this. I must admit I no longer often do, so these are the albums which seem timeless to me and where I wouldn't skip any tracks

    1. Urban Hymns - The Verve
    2. London, 1986 - Talk Talk
    3. Here Come the Noisemakers - Bruce Hornsby
    4.Moontan - Golden Earring
    5. Lost in the Dream - The War on Drugs

and just behind them, Argus/Wishbone Ash, Saturday Morning Pictures/Stray, Caravanserai/Santana, and Who's Next.
  • The Band - The Band
    Steve McQueen - Prefab Sprout
    Bryter Later - Nick Drake
Born Sandy Devotional - The Triffids
Imperial Bedroom - Elvis Costello & The Attractions
  • Dark side of the Moon
    The Yes Album
    Led Zep 2
    David Bowie 69-74
    Sergeant Peppers

    No best ofs.
  • Albums. Now thats a word going out of fashion. Takes me back to when going to buy an album was a big event because of the cost. The excitement of walking home with it tucked under the arm. Those were the days so I make my selection from way back when.
Piper at the Gates of Dawn- Pink Floyd
Led Zeppelin 2 - Led Zeppelin
Crazy World of Arthur Brown - Arthur Brown
In the Court of the Crimson King - King Crimson.
Then Play On - Fleetwood Mac

Ahh, so like an FA Cup style draw with albums facing each other 1v1 and people voting like we do for cover to cover?
  • Change the title Eugene

    Blood on the Tracks
    Blue
    The Clash
    Transformer
    Music from Big Pink

But could be four different one's tomorrow. Blood on the Tracks will always be number 1

Blimey Ben, I own, or have owned, all of these. That could be my top five.

Although I might have What's Going On, or a Stevie Wonder in there. And I'm partial to 3 ft High and Rising.

And African Dub Chapter 3 will be number one when I'm in that sort of a mood.

And Bowie's Low. Pet Sounds? (Definitely)

    And the Ramones 1st album.

    I actually don't think I could come up with a top 5.

Might try over next few days.
  • Abbey Road
    Dark Side of the Moon
    Hotel California
    Trick of the Tail
    Rumours

Yep. Remember you spinning some of them on your folks' stereogram. Deep Purple in Rock didnt make the cut, then ? :-)

    Beatles - Sgt Pepper
    Dylan - Highway 61
    Stones - Exiles
    Pavement - Crooked Rain
    Mountain Goats - Tallahassee

    And about 500 others.

Great album from a forgotten band.

Okay, I 'll continue to collect album names on here and will develop a knock out competition. I was determined that my geeky side wouldn't come out, but it's too late now.
