He is a good fella , think he's doing some work for the Metro now .
He's a Peterborough first Charlton fan second
  • You've got to feel sorry for the club though - they've only got a huge PR budget, the programme, the local media, the website, social media, direct mail, a full-time staff to get their message across, the ability to change things on the ground by actually doing things sensibly plus the instinctive loyalty of thousands of fans and those bullies down the pub are stopping that working by telling people what to think. It's SO unfair!

Reading it in 'black and white' like that just demonstrates how crazy it all is.
  • the guy is quite clearly a moron, but the confidence some have i don't see how, were going after non league strikers ffs. what's the aim get to the championship and then come straight back down as i think that is what would happen. and that wouldn't be very enjoyable would it.

No but getting there and coming back down is better than not getting there at all.

Also to get there and stay there you have to get there in he first place - then worry about staying there.

Just to note I've not read the latest article I'm sure enough I won't agree with it and don't want to encourage it by clicking on it.
why is it? go up makes roland a lot of wonga come straight back down rolands got richer we havent got any better, the fans have just been mugged off and short changed YET AGAIN.

Roland must be laughing his socks off. He is picking the team again - a player farm in action.
  • he has fooled a lot of people this season so far, hes managed to get st holders back on side under the illusion hes changed, majority of us are in for the long haul still see the same faces at away games etc, and many arent attending home games, but its the next batch of supporters that may go missing, people just cba with it anymore.

Has he? There is no increase in ST sales on last summer and among my mates the few who have bought are vehemently anti-regime.

that was along the thread on here and by social media postings about supporting the club etc after the box and scarf were given out.
should of probably read got SOME st holders back on side.

Because as a fan getting promoted is a good thing. However the reason it's better to go up and come down is because we won't know if we're going to come down again unless we go up in the first place.

If you hate RD enough for the club to end up falling so far down the league that is fails to exist then that's your right but I want success for the club in spite of who owns it.

Unless anyone can 100% guarantee that he will sell it if then I'd just prefer that we are successful in the meantime.

i don't want the club to fall that far down the league that it goes out of existence, ive never once said that i want it to - so its wrong to suggest that, i just want the current owner to sell up, we all know hes a businessman, therefor when the business stops making money and it costs him he will sell, or he can make profit from the sale of us. i honestly dont think were in any better position than last year you hit that current squad with 3 serious injuries ( out till january ) magennis, bauer, holmes. thats not a top 10 league 1 side, or we do go up, and then win 4 games in the championship and are relegated by march, as a fan i wouldnt enjoy that any more than what i do now.
  • I'm sorry, I haven't read the article, but assume they have proved those fans supporting them wrong so not sure what people are moaning about. The headline is accurate.
  • I'm not reading anything this guy posts anymore. If it's click bait he can starve. If he genuinely believes the guff he posts he needs to cut back on the meths.
  • Entering this thread late and haven't read many comments so apologies in advance, but it is so clear now that they are experts, EXPERTS with the timings of arrivals and departures in regards to building us up to think we're gonna compete (only reason must be season tickets sales). They know exactly what they're doing there, the dejavu all over again, "hold up I reckon we'll be alright this season, this is the year they've finally sussed it", then a few weeks later "thin squad, injuries, no replacing departures"
Pissed off to say the least. And I'm one of the mugs who backed us top six with skybet, dicks don't offer cash out.
  • thought I would copy and paste as that website has to be one of the shittest on the internet. script problems, pop ups and adverts.

    Author - Phillip Marks

"At the beginning of the summer, I spoke about how important recruitment would be for Charlton and how Katrien Meire and Roland Duchatelet could still get it right. We are here now, just three days away from the start of the season.

    So, how have they done?

We have signed Billy Clarke, Tariqe Fosu, Mark Marshall, Jay Dasilva, Ben Amos and look set to tie up deals for Ben Reeves and two more players. We have given long-term contacts to Ricky Holmes and Jason Pearce, who were two of the club’s most influential players in a bad team last year. Also, we have moved on two of the highest earners at the club in Jorge Teixeira and Cristian Ceballos, which has freed up some much-needed funds.

My reaction to this summer – BRAVO, Katrien - not only has she listened to the manager and the team about the type of players that Karl Robinson has requested but she’s delivered and done this under the shadow of criticism from previous seasons after admitting mistakes.

There are signs that Katrien could now be the type of person this club needs to go forward this season. My personal message is ignore the hate – you have proven many people wrong by giving Robinson the players he desperately needs.

This squad is good enough for promotion - nothing more to say there - all we can do now is be the 12th man! The fans must give that extra motivation the team needs to get back to where this club deserves to be. There will be certain fans, who will always complain about the Belgian regime because of previous mistakes. And it’s been said before but it means something now: They seem to finally have learned from past mistakes.

Robinson has talked about having a clean slate with his players, and after this summer, maybe it’s time for certain fans to do the same with Katrien and Roland. Stop complaining on Twitter when you get a chance to tweet something negative and get behind the team.

And in nine months’ time, let the corks pop and the bubbly flow. I can see us finishing 3rd and going up through the play-offs."

So a few months on do you agree with this analysis?
I have read some deluded dross in my time, but this really takes the biscuit. Obviously written by someone hoping to swim against the tide and then be proven as the only one who got it right. Without doubt things looked on the up at the start oe season. But to think these people could actually change their ways and see the wood for the trees is so far off the mark. The failure to get this club back to the Championship with relative ease shows arrogance as well as a complete lack of football knowledge. They will never change, watch Sheffield Wednesday.

  • Well that article was written in early August. Role on to end August and it was clear that yet again the recruitment had been left short in a crucial area (i.e strikers) with Charlton letting a number of strikers we did have either leave permanently or else go out on loan without replacement. I cannot remember if it was said at the time, but if the plan was that they would see where they were in the table at Christmas and use the January window to strengthen the team for a promotion push I would have taken that with a pinch of salt in the base case based on the past 3 seasons. Now we have a potential takeover in the offing and they have publicly said there will be no permanent additions until that is resolved, it looks like we will have to continue with what we have unless something happens damn quick. In summary, I think the author's positivity was somewhat on the naive side, but maybe he is a glass half full and I am a glass half empty type of person.
  • Also, I think the author's lauding of KM's influence was a little over the top. Clearly RD holds the purse strings and i am not convinced she managed to wring any more out of him than he was prepared to release in the first place.

more like he's the "I've taken too much laughing gas type of person".

Surely she's paid the journo to write this shit?

    Don't think he's a journo. He's described as a 'Charlton blogger'.

The fact is that Duchatelet had clearly lost interest but Aug 2017. He couldn't interfere with player recruitment because Karl had only signed on the condition that he was allowed freedom to get on with the job, so this had absolutely nothing to do with KM. Hardly a case of 'Bravo Katrien!'.
  • Even KM and Holmes no longer believe Philip Marks deluded rubbish from August - if he does then I suggest that he needs some help in connecting with reality. A side that could only just make the Top 6 is not going to do better without Holmes, Konsa and Billy Clarke playing for them.
  • I imagine he'd argue "we're still 6th and have had the worst injury crisis in the clubs history" or similar.

It was clear months ago RD had lost interest and let KR get on with it. Some denied the takeover talk as made up rumours to sell fanzines or perhaps even an attempt to destabilise the club (I'm sure I read something like that somewhere). RD has since confirmed it on the OS. He didn't prove anyone wrong, he let KR do enough to allow the team to compete and maintain the value of the club. Getting us relegated wouldn't have helped him sell the club for the sort of money he'd like.

Allowing KR to build a squad to seriously challenge for the top two would be proving people wrong.

What km was good at was to influence individuals via incentives and earn a wee bit of good press. She was very very good at this. Now she has gone you only have to look at the threats of violence agaisnt RD being made elsewhere to realise just how good KM influencing people with bribery. This article had her fingerprints all over it I'm sure it a author got a pay on the head and some VIP treatment in exchange.
