What are your desert island BOX SETS?

I won't overdo this series, but I do think this could be good for helping other Lifers find something to watch...

You're on a private jet. It crashes on a desert island. A tree impaled the pilot and all communications equipment. But, fortunately for you, it's got solar panels which means the Blu Ray player can be used indefinitely.

Still, it's only a small private jet, so you only managed to fit five Blu Ray box sets of your favourite TV shows in the cupboard.

What are those boxsets, and why?

I'd have The Walking Dead at the top of my list but might get a bit creepy after a while looking at the impaled pilot

Probably bring every box set ever made. I could use them as building blocks for my hut.

Don't worry, you will have eaten the pilot after a few days.

    1. Breaking Bad - to my mind, one of the greatest television series ever made. And there's so much depth that it would withstand multiple rewatches.

    2. The Simpsons - there's so much of it, and vast, vast amounts of it are pure unadulterated genius.

    3. Friends - comfort; humour; fun. And one critic summed it up masterfully: the show is called Friends when really, it's about family. And given I spent my formative televisual years amongst the six of them, its familiarity wouldn't wear off.

    4. The Sopranos - because I've never watched it (!!!!!!) and people keep banging on about it, and it has near-universal acclaim. I reckon it's the sort of thing that would appeal to me, too.

    5. The Thick of It - I need something British with lots of swearing, to help balance out the Simpsons and Friends. It's so sharp that I've still probably missed half the jokes. Defo one for a rewatch.

    Honourable mentions:

    6. Top Gear, mainly because there's so fucking much of it and there's lots of different people involved. The America episode is brilliant - where they're chased away is iconic.

    7. The Wire, because I've heard it's brilliant (never watched it though)

    8. Curb Your Enthusiasm - Larry David is near genius, and the cringe/humour balance is fantastic. Excellent situational comedy.

    9. Mitchell and Webb/Harry and Paul/Fast Show - my favourite three comedy shows. Plenty of material, but I'd guess it would end up getting a bit repetitive.

    10. Mock the Week/Have I Got News For You/8 Out Of 10 Cats - panel shows; lots of humour; lots of volume so even it's about shit from 1997 when I was 3 years old, I probably wouldn't get too bored.

    11. Countdown. Volume volume volume and I love playing Countdown...

    Curb Your Enthusiasm
    Breaking Bad
    Peep Show
    Tom & Jerry
    Laurel & Hardy

Would have picked Green Wing, Smoking Room, Fawlty Towers and Phoenix Nights for quality but there's not enough content to fill the log hours.

Breaking Bad is an obvious one, as is Only Fools
More obscure - Hustle - easy to watch, one of those shows I go back over and watch all over again every few years.

Constipation is a worry when surviving on nuts and berries on a desert island.
