  • It was a 3-over spell! Runs scored went something like 9, 17, 40

The moral of the story is: when bowling legspin against the London T20 champions with a short legside boundary, don't get the yips and start bowling head-high full-tosses every damn ball
  • I haven't played cricket much, but my claim to fame is that I have never been out for a duck, which is more than can be said for a few of my teammates I ran out!
  • My season starts on Sunday for Lessa Wanderers, the standard is not going to have the England selectors running in our direction anytime soon but it's fun.

We just play social/Friendlies,ground is based in Eltham and we are looking for players.

  • If anyone lives in the Sussex/Gatwick area, Dormansland cricket club are always grateful for players

    Why 'wanderers' now.
Are you not at footscray rd anymore?
Used to play against them years ago (late 80s) when they were lessa sports.

Assume everyone else has a Roland Out sticker on their bat?

Very good. Actually, I'm even more impressed by the firm forward stride, bat and pad nicely close together, just opening the face (of Roland) to run what is clearly a very respectable delivery behind point for a two... (or were you caught behind when it popped a bit more than you were expecting?)
  • Not when you realise the stumps are five feet to the right.

Shame you didn't pass your duck avoidance ability down to your son and heir
  • great thread

currently injured but if anyone plays against catford and cyphers 3s or 4s later in the season and you come up against a 60 year old tubby bloke wearing an anorak and reading a train spotting manual please claim your fiver
  • I've taken pre-season very seriously this year.

    1 friendly, 3 nets and 40 pints.

    Bring it on!

    It's on.
  • First game of the season on Sunday. I've not had any nets and hardly played last season so mainly hoping not to run anyone out or drop any sitters

Let's face it, Seth didn't pass down much by way of sporting provenance to me generally. I mean, I'm a Charlton fan, after all...

  • My season's preparations got even worse on Thursday, took my match bat into the nets and snapped it.

Also, had a late one last night, knowing that I was playing 4's today.

Woke up to the 3's skipper on the phone saying I'm with him ... away at Dartford! FFS.
  • I'm umpiring the 1s having also been out last night. Given how hard and straight some of the guys can hit it, not sure how wise a decision this is.

Seb did the same thing with his bat on Thursday. Worse was to follow unfortunately - I received a call from Seb's school yesterday. He'd had a fall (it wasn't a fall as such - he was tripped by a school friend using the strap of his bag). He's in a cast now as he has done some damage to his wrist, the extent of which we will ascertain on Monday as he has an emergency appointment at St Thomas's.

He's been training for six months and worst case scenario is that he is out fort the season - before he's even hit a ball in anger!

    Oh no, nightmare mate.

Hope he is not out for a lengthy period.
  • Played a friendly for Uni the other day scored 23 batting 8 and took 2-31 off my 6, bowling crappy medium pace with a bit of swing/seam. Happy with that given I've had like 2 nets since last year.

    Standard was dreadful though...

That's awful news, fingers crossed it's not as bad as feared.

Nightmare...I hope he's back on the field soon.

Thanks for all the good wishes - original diagnosis regarding the wrist incorrect as the specialist at St Thomas's has confirmed that the boy has actually fractured his thumb. Which, in itself, is good news because he should only be out for 6 weeks or so as opposed to our fear that he would be out for the season.

From a financial perspective it's actually bad news - because we've got to replace that bat!
  • Good to hear!

We only have 9 players for our opening match this Saturday. Come on, you'd all love to spend the day in sunny Lee!
