It'll be bloody hard to find another player with his skill & energy. It hurts me to say it but he deserves better than us.
Don't really begrudge him his move, if it happens. Starting out at non-League, he's grafted and worked his way up through the divisions. At 30 years old would finally have the chance to prove himself in the Championship.
Don't blame him. He can do far better than our jokeshop of a football club.
Trouble is, we all regard selling our best player as another disaster but as far as Roland's concerned it's a success. That's why Charlton are going nowhere but down with this idiot in charge.
Its like at the end of each season KAtrien offers a few of our Younger/More talented players to the team top of the league. Last season Pope and JBG, this season Holmes.
Same old sell best players replace with inferior ones.
Holmes has been one of the few astute signings. The problem is that the odds of replacing Holmes with someone nearly as good or with potential are low.
Makes sense. He only joined us on a promise of championship football and working for Chris Wilder. I have no sources but said this to vociferous anti protesters during the game when they were saying "got to hang on to him next season".
if true he's back with a manager who knows him well and got the best out of him @ Northampton .. be VERY sorry to see him go, about the only exciting player we had this season .. IF he goes, he will be SORELY missed .. let's hope that Marshall of Bradford (discussed elsewhere) will come in as a replacement (wishful thinking) .. much will depend on how Bradford go in the play offs
When the Sheffield Utd fans told me about this a few months ago they knew so much about him it made me wonder whether it was more than just pub talk. Genuinely, I could name probably 1 or 2 of their players and even then my knowledge of who they are / where they play would be limited.
It may be a controversial view, but I don't know how Holmes would fare in the Championship. The standard of defensive opposition in the Chanpionship in comparison to League 1 is such a gulf and whilst a lot of what Ricky does come off, a lot of it doesn't and I think those mis-placed passes or one too many touches would get punished much more in the Championship than it has this season. I think he'd have to tailor his game and for me, the exciting thing about Ricky is not knowing what he'll do next.
Hopefully we won't have to find out and he'll still be our player next season.
personally I would rather see Konsa go than Holmes .. Holmes has been absolutely integral, vital for us this season whereas Konsa has not been so important .. and YES, I appreciate that Konsa is 'one of our own'
Holmes is 29, which arguably gives him one or two years being able to play like he does now ... he surely would jump at the chance to play higher especially at a club so well supported but also managed by his old mate!
Load of bollocks. He's been jokingly linked with them all season by fans then all of a sudden he's as good as signed? Never been linked by anyone with remote credibility.

Opportunity may never knock again for him.

Very good player and deserves his chance in the Championship with a manager he knows and respects.
Ricky will always get a cheer and clap from me if and when he returns to The Valley as an opposition player.

I spoke to Ezri earlier this week and he said he's signed a new contract and expects to be here for two or three more years
We shall see but I don't expect to keep him.
Think he's settled down here and we are likely to offer a new contract

IF he did leave what about asking for Samir Carruthers in part exchange. He only seems to be a sub for Sheffield United and is not a regular.
