We can sign Australian 15 year olds if we want to.
Yes, if they have a UK passport and have the right to move to the UK.
They don't seem to have thought this through do they? Getting work permits for footballers is by no means straightforward. This (I hope it's up to date) explains it: only non-EEA players who are internationally established at the highest level, and whose employment will make a significant contribution to the development of their sport at the highest level, are allowed to play in the UK.
It's difficult to see how that includes young Aussie players at the start of their career.

I'm sure that the lucrative trade deal that we do with Australia post Brexit will have benefits that might help.
Steady on, this is an article in The Mail for heaven's sake, and yet in 90 minutes we're nearly on to 7 pages of posts. I want rid of RD as much as the next person but I'm not getting too excited one way or the other until there is news from some more reliable source.
Fuck me, we have not even been taken over by these people, that we know nothing about, and yet people on here are crapping themselves already, it's so bloody embarrassing, it really is! You ought to be ashamed of yourselves.
You should see the "other" forum! CARD already getting the blame for a shit takeover from people with no money! They're all wetting themselves with the "we told you to be careful for what you wished for" crap
If they're unhappy, it makes it even better for me!
They intend to make back their investment by getting us back into the premier league. That can't be a bad thing.
Thing is. It's not going to be "their" investment. The five year blueprint will need backing by other investors. Notoriously hard getting into the PL without huge luck (Palace) or huge investment. I can't see many "investors" out there likely to gamble.
As for the feeder club. What's not to cautiously like. Plenty of talent in Oz. First dibs on the cream could be very good.
I'm betting this won't eventually fly.
Do they own any clubs in Oz ? If not how are they going to push the best of the toungsters to us ?
Remember The Daily Mail recent apology The UK's Daily Mail newspaper has agreed to pay damages and costs to the first lady of the United States over an article about her modelling career. The newspaper had reported allegations that Melania Trump once worked as an escort, but later retracted the claims.

I doubt many Aussie clubs would stand in the way of young talent. If a ready pathway to an English professional club exists then it's not going to be a problem. There would need to be a good scouting network by AFC but I expect they know that already.
I'm just happy that RD could be gone soon, with ambitious (I dont care that they are not minted) owners who want success on the pitch - and at that point I buy a season ticket again and I can focus on the footballing, like I used to.
All of a sudden Charlton Lifers are clinging to a daily mail story, are we due an eclipse?
Definitely.
Be careful what you wish for - even in dire situations. Who are they 'raising' money from? (The prospect of it being non-Australian money should be considered. China? Korea? Singapore?). Who will be the actual owners with a charge over the club?
What track record do they have of running a football club anywhere?
Will they change the name? Or the first team strip?
Yeah....it could work out and it might be better. I hope it does, assuming it's likely to happen.
And if it does would we be a 'nursery' club or proving ground for Oz/NZ talent? Not in League One in my view. (Emerging antipodeans would presumably still be tempted much more by UK and European clubs a bit higher than us).
The comparisons with us being a proving ground for SA talent under Seed, Trotter and Hill actually aren't that encouraging. The individuals were often good, great even, players but we didn't win anything with them and the best were sold - and they only came to SE7 in the first place because we were in the top flight, not the 3rd tier.
Still, let's hope its a positive step on the road back to some sort of reasonable status.
Everyone just relax... Can we take a moment to enjoy the fact that this is the end of RD... Life is too short to worry about what might be... Let's just go for the ride...!
Positive news at last. Anything that means they are selling up is a win win
Really!
I sincerely hope you're right mate, doesn't look to glossy so far though!
How about another 12 months under the current owners? If League 2 is not happening this season, than it will probably happen next season.
Mind bogging that a few still think that this lot are ok.
Anyone who comes in must have more idea on how to run an English football club, than this current lot., especially with someone who has played over 500 times in the Premier League part of this new consortium
On a cautionary note, why would young Australian talent come to us?
It's not as if it's some undiscovered football country, that nobody else has paid any attention to, I'm sure lots of clubs have scouts down under, and if rival London clubs were also interested, why would a talented youngster sign for us, rather than West Ham or Palace? It's not as if there's a language or cultural barrier to overcome...
Is it still a hot bed of talent?
Hate to say but the days of Mark Viduka and Harry Kewell coming through are long gone for Australia...i.e. Look at the current National Team, yes they've a handful of players here in the Football League but no real household names anymore.
I honestly think they've gone backwards in terms of impressive kids coming through as who is the last Australian to make you sit up and think that you'd love to sign?
Of course we all want to be in the PL, but I'd be happy to be back in the Championship, with a team I could be proud of. A "proper" Charlton team that wasn't completely rebuilt every season

I think too many getting carried away by this - a belated April fools jest?
It's what he's done to St Truiden so wouldn't surprise me if he's trying to keep hold of The Valley and charge us rent. That article deliberately ommits The Valley as part of the purchase.

People like you making the club toxic are not really fans. You'd rather see the club die than back the new owners.
(This is irony btw Essex)
