I don’t know what to make of the current situation. We have ESI maintaining a high profile, apparently confident since the earliest stage of the process the bid would be found to be compliant; and now according to reports getting involved in aspects of the functions of the club. All of which has to be welcomed by us fans. They are trying to keep the show on the road as we approach the transfer window with a decimated squad. Yet still the EFL don’t sign it off.
Up to now I’ve argued that we should give the EFL a break, but it is starting to look a bit bizarre now. It’s difficult to get the facts, but I think the number of bids actually barred by the EFL remains very low. They never actually rejected the Aussies, just left open the door to filing requested information. I think that those bids which were barred, were barred at an early stage. Is it really a feasible scenario that at this late stage the EFL will turn round and say, nope, we have looked at it and this does not pass the ODT.? Because if they did, they would owe it to us, the fans, to tell us what is wrong with it.
I am starting to think that if it doesn’t go through by end tomorrow, a measured approach and enquiry from CAST/CARD might be called for. @Pico@Airman Brown ?
Yes, it's feasible - and seems to be increasingly likely - that the EFL will turn round and reject the bid. They have a binary decision: all the time that "yes" isn't given as an answer, then "no" remains a possible outcome. And, in that scenario, we had better be very sure against whom we vent anger: and it's shouldn't be the EFL.
If it doesn't go through, then the EFL will have specific, detailed and water tight answers as to why not. And, in those circumstances, we should be very pleased it doesn't go through: if the EFL find problems, it's far better for them to come to light now and for Charlton to be prevented from suffering the consequences, than for them to be hidden until it's too late. The EFL in those circumstances will be the good guys, as bitter a pill as that would be to swallow.
The ire and retribution should be aimed at the man who bought the wrong club and then spent years trying to sell it to the wrong owners.
I hope it goes through. And I hope it goes through because the EFL are thoroughly satisfied they have done a complete and rigorous job in weeding out - and securing mitigation for - any issues. And if it doesn't, I won't be blaming the EFL for preventing us being put in a mess; I will be blaming the Belgian genius who brought it on.
What makes you think this @Chizz? You've got me worried
charlton working on getting a cm from a rival Champ club
Brilliant! You're a genius, @Redhenry - it's good to have you back. I love this clue - it's quite a complex one, but really good.
Of course, most people are going to think you mean "central midfielder". Whereas cm (or "CM" as it should really be written) refers to the Roman Numerals for 900.
And, what happened in AD 900? Well, as everyone knows, it was the year that Persian astronomer Abu Ja'far al-Khazin was born. And, while most people know him as the author of Zij al-Safa'ih, it shouldn't be forgotten that he wrote a commentary on Ptolemy's Almagest.
And why is that important? Well most people would be familiar with the Greek and Latin versions of Almagest, I am sure. But, as we all know, there have been three English translations, in 1952, in 1984 and, the most recent, in 2014, which was only a partial translation.
So, I can't imagine a bigger confirmation that we're being taken over from the Middle East, after the partial and incomplete reimagining of the club in 2014 (by Duchatelet), I don't know what is. Thanks, again, for the massive hint that it's all about to go through.

Only that, if the EFL had said "yes" straight away, then the bid would (obviously) not be rejected. But the longer it takes to say "yes", then the more likely it is that they will say "no".
I have no idea whether or why they might reject it; and I have no idea how likely it is that it will be rejected. But it's simple maths that, if "no" is still possible, then "no" is more possible than it would have been if they'd already said "yes".
I hope it goes through and I have no reason to believe it won't. But it remains possible that it won't right up to the point at which it goes through.

Still no word from @Redhenry unless I missed it. Has he been abducted by aliens??
I would imagine his friend has left Charlton so doesn't have ears anymore at the club. Not a dicky bird about the UAE ESI group so doesn't want to be bombarded with questions where he would now have to guess and speculate like the 99% who are not in ITK on CL.
I know he appeared to have a hotline as he was the first to break the news that Lee Bowyer would be staying shortly after Roland's late night call to Lee, improving his contract to stay for one extra season after we all heard that Bowyer had walked.
I haven't got a friend at Charlton. i have more than one source btw..
Lovely to hear from you: An agent associate, was one of your sources but not Matt Southall.

Also known as pure conjecture, like most posts on CL.
East Street Investments complete takeover of Charlton Athletic
2nd January 2020 14:05pm
Charlton Athletic can confirm that the purchase of the club by East Street Investments has been completed.
Roland Duchatelet said: "It was vital for the long-term health of Charlton Athletic that this deal was completed at the very start of the January transfer window.
"It allows the new owners to commit resources to the football side in order to bring in new players who will help secure the club's position in the Championship.
"This is a hugely exciting time for everybody involved with Charlton Athletic and I believe the club is in safe hands with His Excellency Tahnoon Nimer, Matt Southall and Jonathan Heller."
Chairman Matt Southall said: “I have been fortunate to meet many of the dedicated staff who have served the club so loyally and diligently and whose love of Charlton Athletic shines through. Their enthusiasm is part of the reason why we are so confident of building something special now the takeover is complete.
“Since our last statement on November 29th, it has been my privilege to attend every game and see for myself why this football club means so much to so many people. I have met hundreds of fans, attended some of the club’s community schemes and spoken with people for whom Charlton Athletic means everything.
“Without exception, they’ve reminded me of what Charlton stands for both as a football club and as part of the wider community. Rest assured, we will never lose sight of that and will do everything in our power to protect that legacy and the long-term future of the club.
“This is a great opportunity for ESI and we are thankful to Roland Duchatelet and his team for giving us the chance to build on such strong foundations.
“Now, for us, the hard work begins. We already have plans in place to support Lee and his staff over the next month.
“But most importantly is strengthening our links with both the fans and the Charlton community so they may understand our short and long-term plans for the club and how we intend to build on the amazing support and goodwill already shown to ESI.”
