The Takeover Thread - Duchatelet Finally Sells (Jan 2020)

Truth is the last two sales of CAFC have proved to be disastrous. I’m hopeful that this latest takeover is going to be fantastic but there are no guarantees that will be the case. Until I know otherwise I will proceed with caution.5

I posted this before, so apologies for repetition....My German friend, who is something or other in the world of finance, has been to a couple of Charlton games with me, but ended up choosing to support Wimbledon instead, as he lives in SW London. But he still keeps an eye on Charlton, so when the takeover was announced in November he checked out the Charlton website and read all about the guys behind the takeover. When I saw him a week or so later He told me he was very envious as “they’re such good guys.”He spends a lot of time in the UAE and Abu Dhabi, and although he doesn’t know them personally, he knows people who do, and he said they are by reputation good businessmen and honest brokers.
I totally get why people are suspicious, but my friend set my mind at ease, and I’ll be perfectly happy to give these guys a chance.I’m predicting 31st Dec for EFL confirmation, based on nothing at all.Onwards and upwards!49 -
FFS, I will be glad when the EFL have done the work and approved the sale. We can then close down this thread and enjoy watching our Charlton come back to us.
These are not a bunch of chancers, they have huge financial clout and they want to invest in making us a prem club again.
We will see that when the deal is approved, new deals and some great investment in the squad. Keep the faith...

A poster who doesn't post so much nowadays, @DamoNorthStand, mentioned very briefly soon after the news broke that "they" by which I believe he meant Nimer and whom he represents, are involved, very quietly, in F1, and as Damo said, you need serious wedge for that. I have tagged Damo, because with his professional background that he has previously mentioned, he would know his stuff on this, and I hope he might tell us more. For example, do you "invest" in F1 to make money? I have no idea, but I think it is usually a vanity/PR project, in which case buying a London footie club would be following a pattern. Another pattern is for Middle Eastern royal families to invest in big football clubs as PR for the nation concerned (Citeh, PSG). I can't really believe purchasing Charlton would be seen as falling into that bracket, but if we knew that Nimer is already involved in F1, I think that would be positive news for us.
On the other hand anyone criticising @Airman Brown without having actually read VOTV is sticking their head in the sand. @carly burn I can recall you sniffing in similar manner at the negative stuff which Airman and others discovered about the Sebastian Sainsbury bid in 2010, yet it turned out to be well founded, and Lee Amis was involved with that one. Whether you like it or not, VOTV contains pertinent verified facts about some people involved, albeit not Nimer because its not so easy to get info on such a person. And he seems to be the key to whether this may work out well for us or not.
I've got an open mind on this one, therefore, but every day longer the EFL feel unable to ratify it, the more wary I am of it.

His wife is a stunner.
I dont really see the problem with mentioning that when he keeps posting pictures of her. As long as it doesnt overstep the mark.2 -
@PragueAddick - City were not even playing in Europe prior to their oil money arriving, so it's not like these families only buy massive clubs.6

I don’t know our owner, chairman or anyone.
However I have always been involved in Trade Finance, and spent a lot of time in the Middle East.
The ADBD brand is well known and respected. I have severe doubts they would be involved in anything that would harm their reputation. Nor do I find it likely they would play fast and loose with our club.
As individuals, Nimer and Heller also have positive reputations.
I am relaxed about this ...but NOT in the know.34 -

I wonder what Derek Hatton and Arthur Scargill are up to these days? Maybe we could persuade them to join a consortium with Ken Livingstone and Len McCluskey?2 -

I think he reads this site & I don’t want our prospective new Chairman thinking his daughter is fair game for insensitive jokes/comments.
We’re better than that.25 -
Nothing to worry about
the problem is people that have to much time on their hands like to be busy and pushing agendas
let the EFL decide if they are fit and proper let ESI show their worth
make your own mind up and don’t be swayed by anyone
how they act what they do is how to gauge your support or your unhappiness with them

Wouldn't be surprised if, after reading on here, that ESI pull out. If so.....I hope some of you will be well pleased with yourselves.

And on the flip side, even if they are investing for their own entertainment purposes, I'd hazard a guess that the type of people they would be entertaining aren't going to be swayed by Luton at home1

Anyone got any concrete updates from the EFL? Didnt someone here used to have a pal working there?0

Then there is the Valley. I was kind of taking comfort from the fact that no rumours have surfaced yet about a new stadium associated with the bid. AFAIK there isn't an obvious site in the Royal Borough any more. I'm always wary of Lee Amis remark in 2013 "It's always a property play". For that reason I'd be happy if they just want to get us into the FAPL, and fill the Valley as it is. Nowadays that is enough to create a profitable business, which wasn't yet true for most FAPL clubs in 2013.
