    I give up

  • There have been rumours that ESI takeover bid has been rejected by the EFL. I've been told that is absolutely NOT the case and that EFL have been very accommodating in changing their diaries so interview process is this week.
  • Hi EFL member, got a massive Pre-Christmas piss up planned around the Charlton takeover where every attendee gets a free car, to meet certain members of the applicants and their broader entourage occasionally on a one to one basis or in groups as appropriate.

please can you confirm you’d be happy to move your existing meetings to facilitate our enduring gratitude

I've been over the moon since the take but it really hit home this morning and here's why:

My son has been playing semi professional football for the last 10 years even though he is in his mid 20's I still go to watch him most weeks and have done since he was 7.

When he has not had a game or been injured we go to the games when we can, home or away. Including weeknights. He's a huge chatlton fan and has band since he was 5 years old (infact this was in account a few years ago!) I'm in my 60s now and don't have many charlton friends in essex, so my son had no choice really growing up!

Over the last 2 years he has struggled terribly with injuries and struggled to get fit but when he is fit he is one of the first names on the team sheet and he lives for his football.

Over the last 2 years he has thought about packing it in full time and getting his Saturdays back but said he would never buy a season ticket under RD. He just couldn't stomach it. He would not at buy tickets from his friends or begrudgingly from the club.

Yestersay he played a game which they won 4-0 and he scored the 4th. This morning he officially quit his team. Retired as such as he feels his body can not take it anymore and when he told me he didn't seem too gutted which took my by surprise.

Then pulled out an email confirmation of 2 half season tickets in the west lower for me and him and said we need something to do on weekends now which filled me with joy.

I have never seen him this excited since he was a little boy waiting to see Harvey outside the club shop. Without sounding too cliche here (and sorry for rambling on) but blimey..

We really do have our Charlton back.
    Thanks Dad.
Although, it’s going to be incredibly awkward asking you for your share now.

Are you really his son or is this a jokey wind up comment?
    I am.

He is on my original account I made when I was around 19/20. I won’t too post much.
I used to read frequently without an account but thought it was time to get involved :)

There was me thinking you were really Lewis Page.

See if he’s got any 40’s left.

Just because that the people taking control of the club are very rich and have connections to people who are very, very, very rich indeed, some posters on here seem to think that it is axiomatic that they will spend untold millions on the club. This may not be so. For my part, if as a result of this takeover, we can start to financially compete with the majority of other clubs in this division, then I will be delighted.

I have supported Charlton since 1964 and we have always sold most of our best players to bigger clubs. From Bailey to Parker that has been the way. Even during the 90’s as we rose to the Premier League we sold Lee to Newcastle and Bowyer to Leeds. However,Taylor to Brentford? BFG to Preston?

If this takeover means we only sell our best players when a truly bigger club pays the appropriate fee, then the step forward from the Duchatelet era will be enormous. Anything more than that will be a bonus.

Axiomatic, what a great word I had to look it up.
Good post, but I really don't think the owners have bought us to carry on struggling in The Championship.
Where's the kudos in that ?
Socialising with the other excellencies and Sheiks who are chatting about Man C and our guys chatting about our struggles to beat Barnsley.
I really really really do not think their ambition is to compete with Barnsley, Wigan and Millwall.
    Small aside;
Barnsley are said to be the 'second richest' club in the championship since their takeover over a year ago. They are owned by an international consortium and there were chants of sack the board in November apparently. Clearly more to club ownership than having stacks of cash.

  • I still have my fingers crossed for a 5 Dec announcement - that truly would make it "Addickpower Day".

You've answered your own post where you say Barnsley are owned by a consortium.

That's the main reason I'm glad the Aussie consortium don't own us. Far better to have one wealthy individual than a consortium liable to investors wanting to pull out.

That may be so, but my point was really to distinguish Barnsley from millwall/ Wigan.
  • Do you reckon the EFL will give my banner back after this debacle, I spent several hours on it
  • i've worked at my company for over 20 years. last week, for the first time ever, they sent me to China. where there's very limited internet access at the moment.
and i come back to this.
    typical.
    but brilliant!
@ri@ricky_otto normally gets sent to Coventry.
