I seem to remember before the start of the season the club making all the right noises about a commitment to promotion. Not a lot happened in the summer (again), but lots of people still gave him the benefit of the doubt and said wait until January.
Now nothing has happened in January, people are again saying wait until the summer.
How many chances does he get?
His intentions are irrelevant for me at this stage. Even if he does want to get promoted, his continuing arrogance and incompetence make it an impossibility. The club will not thrive again until he is gone.
Just my opinion of course!
That's rubbish.
We did invest and got some decent players and some crap as expected. Now we need him to sell or get in a proper scouting network.
Fair comment. I should have said "not enough happened".
Despite all the activity the squad was not strong enough. The point I was trying to make is that it's irrelevant to me at this point whether it was a lack of ambition or a lack of competence in yet again underestimating the standard of the competition we're in (after we were told lessons had been learned). The end result is the same - continuing failure.
We're in a crap league and all we needed was a little bit of investment in players, either in the summer or worst-case in January to easily have a top 6 squad.
Instead we have a top-half squad playing bottom-half football and £10m of net player sales in Roland's pocket.
I don't think the money comes into it with Roland, the money he pumps into the club is by way of a loan and he is adding interest to it. We are part of his experiment with football clubs and he seems to be oblivious to what is going on behind the scenes.
If I was Roland I would use the losses at Charlton to off set the tax against the profit he makes in the rest of his European companies so he may see us as a handy loss making enterprise to have around.
Making losses to offset profits elsewhere is often quoted as a benefit to Duchatelet but I do not think it is really beneficial at all.
Here is an example....
I spend cash of £100 in the UK and lose it all. (A cut price Nego)
Elsewhere in my business empire I make profits of £200 that I can offset this loss against, probably in the UK as losses are not generally transferable between countries.
Without the loss, my profit would have been say £160 (this year's corporation tax rate is 20%, set to fall to 17% and so I would owe HMRC £40 of my £200).
With the loss, my profit is £180 on the profitable side of my business as I will pay tax on only £100 of the £200.
Unfortunately, I have also made £100 loss so my actual post tax result is only £80.
Personally I would rather not make the loss and have £160.
I think Katrien is still plucking up the courage to tell Roland we got relegated.
She doesnt need to...
92-clubs in the Football League, we're still one of them so until we go down to the Conference we've not been relegated
Soon it'll be, "well Charlton are in still in the English football pyramid, so technically not relegated. So, back to business.....whos going to Wingate & Finchley away on Tuesday?"....

Simple answer no. why would he be happy losing so much money comperd to the championship.
The simple answer is actually yes. He loses less in League One than his does in the Championship. That and the fact that he never comes to see us anyway so doesn't care if we are playing Rochdale or Newcastle.

That's a really good (and simple) explanation, thank you.
I expect Roland, and Daisy in particular, are actually relieved Charlton are in League One. Smaller attendances mean smaller protests, total lack of atmosphere and no more anti-Roland/liar Daisy chants. In a war of attrition Charlton are likely to run out of fans before Roland ever runs out of money. It's far easier to bully and belittle 4,000 people than it is to take on 27,000.
Perhaps, we should be asking ourselves whether we are happy being in League One? To answer my own question, the short answer is no, but it misses the point about whether Roland cares where the club is and where supporters want the club to be.
I'm old enough to have seen some fairly dire teams play at The Valley and have been lucky enough to see some of the games when we reached dizzy heights in the Premiership. But, for me, the biggest thing about this Club has been the spirit within the Club. To a great extent, I accepted our slide from the Premiership to League One. The Premiership is a tough place to stay - realistically three of about 10 teams are most likely to go down - that makes it a tough place to stay for ever. And, when you go down, the fall is a big bump as we and many other teams have found.
I wasn't surprised that we found life hard in the Championship. Powell got together a squad that showed spirit and, in turn, proved successful as we came back to the upper part of the Championship.
I don't need to document what Roland has done. Yes, he and his CEO have overseen a decline back to mid-table in League One, but it is the way it has happened that makes it so bad. Supporters no longer feel part of the club, journeyman have come and gone and there is little hope. And, it's hope that keeps football fans going. It's not the ridiculous hope of winning the Champions League (that's for dreams), but it's the hope that the management get the a decent squad and the group of players is generally good enough, play like a team and do their best to get us as high up the table as they can.
It's also about continuity and a feeling of warmth and there being a group. I don't know why Roland destroyed the group that we had when he arrived. As I posted at the time, I didn't understand why Morrison went. I didn't understand why Yann went. Like others, I've not understood many of his decision, to be honest. Roland presumably had his reasons or, more likely, just wanted it to be something different - whether better or worse. We know that in one year's time, the team will look different yet again. As someone posted recently, who could have predicted the current line up in August? How many of this team will be playing in February 2018? I know it's the way nowadays generally, but surely some continuity is a must.
The question about whether Roland cares whether we are in League One is unanswerable. Who knows? I'd prefer we were playing in the Premiership. But, more importantly, I'd prefer a club that had cohesion, spirit and a feelgood factor in League 2 rather than what has been presented over the last 3 years. The slip from 4th in the Premiership to below midway in League One is not the fundamental problem for me, disappointing though it is. I just want something better in other ways.

It's borderline criminal.

It's only 1.5% of his wealth so I very much doubt he gives a flying foo foo.
