My son was 3 but I used to bring my mum too, very handy for the numerous breaks he needed. He's 11 now has been Charlton mad but in all honesty it's a struggle at the moment to keep him interested. I don't think it's the league we're in more the constant player/manager changes and the total lack of atmosphere.

That's another thing Katie and Co. don't realise is that the next generation are fast losing interest. There is so much more for kids to do nowadays.
Personally I have never understood the notion of taking pre-school kids to football: limited attention span; boredom, constant need to move, eator piss etc etc. Ideally I would have taken my son at about 6 or 7 years but domestic circumstances meant it had to wait until he was 9
For me it would have been pretty selfish to say to Mrs Plum who had done the lion's share of childcare during the week 'I'm off to football, you look after the baby'. I wasn't going to miss the football and it was a nice break for Mrs Plum and I quite enjoyed it. Led to indoctrination admittedly.
Seth always tells me that my first word was "Palarse" - but that might just be an urban legend...
Certainly a fan through indoctrination, yeah. But I wouldn't want to break free, or have it any other way!
My eldest boy, now 32, I started to take him regularly to Selhurst when he was 4...he used to play football with some other kids on the Sainsbury's terrace.
Daughter one was 11 weeks old when we took her to the Bolton game in September 1999. She lasted until the roar as the teams came out and then lost it. Wife took her back to the car and I ... er ... stayed to watch, rejoining them at 5pm after a superb 2-1 win. She returned aged 8 for the 4-1 win against Coventry along with her six-year-old sister ... that time they loved it.
My boy was 6 for his first visit BUT be prepared for, `I want to go home' `i'm cold and want to go home' `i'm hungry and want to go home' `it's boring, I want to go home'
I get the same from my girlfriend when I take her and shes 29.
I think my old man says my first game was when I was 2 in 84, can't remember who it was against though. My earliest memories are from around 87/88. I had a little gap when we were at Upton Park around 90/91/92 but was well back on board from 92/93 season onwards and it's been part of my weekends ever since.
I know what a lot of you mean when you say kids of a certain age aren't right. I seem to remember being massively fidgety and not paying too much attention for some games when I was 8-10 years old. The defeat in the FA Cup replay to West Brom in the 3rd round around 1990 time springs to mind. I remember pestering my old man about how early we were leaving.
It is actually one of my life's goals to be able to take my offspring to a game (if I ever have a kid), despite RD's best efforts to turn future generations away.
I first took my son at 5, too young. Took him again at 7 and got him hooked. He's 24 now and been coming ever since. I've got a grandson of 6 but I won't start bringing him until Roland sells and the atmosphere improves
I was 5 when i first started going and was already football mad. Tbf it was a lot easier to convince me to go then it would be for a kid nowadays, sadly.
My first season saw us draw 3-3 with Manchester United, beat Arsenal 1-0 and smash Manchester City 4-0.
I fear it's going to be a little harder to keep youngsters interested when we are drawing 1-1 at home to Fleetwood. How times have changed :-(
My twins were 4 and it was in the 2003/4 season. I was desperate to get Charlton in to their blood before they had any notions of supporting the Manchester clubs on our doorstep.

My boy was 6 but too young for the reasons people have listed.. And frankly I am not making him watch the shite on show at the valley if he doesn't seem that bothered!
Started taking daughter to away's only in title season (aged 10). Managed 14 games that season. She's 15 now and in true rivalry style, she hates the Wendies. Happily stood soaking wet and freezing at Bolton to watch a memorable victory. The recent fare hasn't been great but she's Addickted.
Dad took me aged 6 and he wondered if he was doing the right thing when i spent the entire match (at Field Mill) watching the crowd. I must have enjoyed crowd watching because we won 3-0, i think, so was taken again, and again......

I've taken my 5 year old to around 4 home games this season. He is not really interested in the football to be honest. As much as I tell him to watch he is more interested in playing about. To be fair though absolutely sod all happens at home game. We rarely attack so there is no jumping up out your seats. The fans rarely sing anymore it's all so very dull. I've told him away games are better as the crowd sing more so I'm taking him to Oldham on Tuesday night
Struth, I hope my new friends in SE9 are reading this.
My lad is 4 and is a football nut, loves everything to do with football partly down to watching me play&coach most weekends.
When I'm writing out my session plans, tactics... He will want a sheet of paper to do the same, He loves Charlton because of me proud to wear his kits and play as Charlton on fifa, but I won't take him to a Charlton game under this regime.
We live near Barnsley/Huddersfield and Sean Scannell came into his school with school focus booklets which contains vouchers for home games adults £10 kids £5 the club has excellent links/partnerships to all schools and grassroots clubs in a 10 mile radius, because of that connection with a town player and his friends at school support town he was desperate to go to some games so we've been to 3 at the John Smiths.
He's enjoyed the whole matchday experience traveling to the stadium, getting a hotdog, pre-match games,/entertainment, buying a programme, and loves the action up close, But it's a long time for him to sit still and concentrate gets bored a bit in the 2nd half.
About 5 I think Wigan away. Was living Oop here by then lost 3-2.freezing and raining. Went with pie eater mate and his son for hardly anything at all. Boys still mates now at nearly 16. Weather was so terrible the boys his underneath the chairs as they were so small. On MOTD can just see me and Joe sat behind Wigan goal looking bored and cold. Even though his lot won the game and weather were so poor it was all we could do to stay. Since that inauspicious start he's seen 6 at Barnsley, promotion at Carlisle and JJ stuffing the massives. Lately been a bit rubbish to be fair!
Took each of My 4 boys around 4 years old. Between them most found it too noisey , a bit boring and too long . As the years have passed I'd say the 11 year old is well in to it , 9 year old only comes because he can have some iPad time and a pizza afterwards , 7 year old similar but will watch the game , 5 year old loves it pointing gesticulating always puts sport on telly . Before this season they enjoyed it because they sat with aunties, cousins and friends so that filled a void amongst the boredom . This year that has all gone no friends or family renewed, thanks Roland , so there is a lack of enthusiasm to go , luckily in the family stand there is plenty of space so we sit in an area where they can move about a little bit without annoying anyone . Fuck off Roland and we can all see our football family regularly again
I took my elder daughter when she was 5. i had told her that everyone would get up and cheer if Charlton scored. Charlton duly scored and she leapt in the air about 10 seconds later. When the other team equalised, she was much faster out of the blocks. She was a bit miffed why nobody else went up.

Good luck!
He plays up sometimes but is generally well behaved.
She was fitttttttttttt yesterday.
After a while he liked to get there early to watch the teams warm up.
Always took a hot water bottle in case he got cold
