  • I should be sharing tales of my afternoon at Glentoran but the weather did for us. No matter, a quick cross Belfast detour to Cliftonville....nope, called off not much more than an hour before kick off.

As we were leaving the pub having managed to find a bar with enough Sky clout to show our game at lunchtime we were asked by some lads where we were headed. It was some Huddersfield fans who had adopted Cliftonville as their second team. They told me Docherty's red was a joke the other week and that they thought we'd played well. They can see things lots of us can't.

Belfast is a cracking city though and we'll return in the near future. I'd recommend it for anyone who's not been.

Not the correct group for this post, but here goes.
Today was the last round of games here in Brazil, Botafogo in Rio last won the title in 1995, all they had to do was avoid defeat, they won 2-1 to make them champions.
Watching it in a pub and seeing the players celebrating with the fans at the ground was fantastic, wherever you are in the world a football fan can share the same emotions.
Before I left the boozer with my friend I went over and congratulated the Botafogo fan, I told him I was English and supported Charlton, he liked my tattoo!  I told him to drink lots of beer and enjoy the night.
    The power of football.

Botafogo PB v Serra Branca today in a pre-season friendly.
This was played in their training ground, the new season starts in five days time with the regional cup games.
The game finished 1-0 with a few drinks breaks due to the 33 degrees being a bit draining.

What’s going on with that terrace?

Not a lot, although the press area is where the red umbrella is!

You're having a laugh, have you seen how big Brazil is? :)
  • A little premature perhaps for this thread, but the site of what will be Inter Miami's ground. Previously a municipal gold course at the end of one of MIAs runways. I'd dare to suggest that the English rather than American version of football predominates here given the large Latino population. .

I've finally seen a game on every continent (no golf or parkrun on Antarctica so it doesn't count). My 3rd time in Africa but scheduling is always iffy here. In Morocco the top league plans 2 weeks in advance (the fixture, not just date/time). My game in the regional league was announced with 3 days' notice

So if you're in Marrakech, Mouloudia play at the edge of the centre. Division 2's Kawcab's stadium (the AFCON+WC one) is 11km out, though Kawcab currently play 100km away due to stadium renovations

Google has no info for Mouloudia, nor the other 2 Marrakech clubs Olympique and Ittifaq. I had to translate Mouloudia into Arabic, check their Facebook then translate back. They beat Tamnar Arkan 2-0 in front of maybe 250 people.

This is a cracking tick mate, you went to a lot of effort to get the game in.  Any souvenirs?

No I didn't see any merchandise and the only refreshments on sale was some guy walking along selling home made biscuits.

Someone was so annoyed at half time that he got his prayer mat out.

Could be an earner for Charlton if we rented out prayer mats, heard plenty of 'OMG', 'dear god', 'Jesus Christ' comments this season.

His team must have been losing.

Montpellier v Rennes yesterday - got to see a CL legend in the flesh. He didn't do much but did have a decent finish ruled out after a VAR check.

Not a good season for Montpellier as evidenced by the 'as many wins as kits' banner (four) but a really cool old ground.

Nice one! I'm also on my final continent and appreciate any advice. I'm planning a trip and game in September this year or Jan next year. Marrakech was my thought.

Cheers. AFCON is in January with fixed dates obviously.

For guaranteed domestic football Tunis is easier to plan as they announce games like a normal league (the Morocco Botola haven't announced past this weekend!). Tunis has 2 main teams I think so a Fri-Mon trip would work.

There are Moroccan cities with more clubs but from London you can only fly direct to Marrakech & Agadir (1 team there).

I would have got my African tick done in Cape Town in August but they started the season a month later than usual.

Thanks mate. AFCON is my back up.
There are direct flights to Casablanca from London as well.
Tunisia was not on my radar but I will have a look at fixtures.
    Appreciated

    ABC v America on Saturday.
This was the 2nd leg of a regional cup final, both teams come from Natal so was always going to be well attended.  Thus explaining the heavy police prescence(they do not f*** about over here).
A poor game of few chances saw America win with a near post corner with two minutes to go, meaning they won 2-1 on aggregate.
The ABC supporters did not take things well.

Yes mate , although they excepted a driving licence,  never  seen such a police presence before a game ( apparently two teams have beef despite being miles apart ) Slask Wroclaw ( who were bottom before the game played them off the park ) including a goal from inside their own half .

I think Wroclaw have some friendship with the other Krakow team.
