I really do not understand Dawson getting picked. He is not a good enough batsman or bowler at Test Match level. I know Adil Rashid divides opinion, he bowls the odd four ball, but he is a wicket taker. Especially to the lower order. He can also bat a bit. I think the selectors picking Dawson and Ballance is too conservative.

Great shout that, nothing against Dawson, but surely Rashid is a better bet to take wickets and chip in with runs from down the order?

With Moen and Stokes in the side, the reality is that he would only need to bowl 12-14 overs in a day.

Was at the cricket with a couple of Aussies who are hoping Dawson makes the Ashes team this winter !
  • Given that they currently have zero contracted players, I think that they should worry about their own Ashes line up first!!

    Is this Jennings first test?

Just wondering the last time a debutant managed to get a decent score?

Is test cricket such a leap up?

There seems to be dearth of talent, if we continue to persist with Ballance, the same with Roy in the one dayers.

Or are the committee just incredibly stubborn/short sighted?

I think it is Jennings fifth Test. There is nothing wrong with Roy in the one day side. I wouldn't say there is a dearth of talent. Two Currans, Livingstone,
Foakes, Westley, Stoneman, Overton, Crane. It is just that there is a world of difference between County Cricket and Test Match cricket.

I suppose my point dick, is we persist with players, who don't appear to deserve it?

Balance has been given numerous chances and I think, only passed 50 on one occasion?

When ever I look at the scores of the one dayers or maybe it's the 20/20, Roy always seems to be the first out and very often, hasn't got into double figures?
  • Making hard work of this. Might have as well just start slogging it and get the lead over 300. Feel sorry for those who had tickets for today so far

181-7 was not expecting this at all this morning

But it makes it more interesting when they bat
  • We're 63-7 so far today. Awful session and i still think we should've just hit out to score some quick runs. Pitch seems to be quite lively though so i'd guess we already have enough runs.

You can't go through a Test series without a batting collapse. This is quite a collapse.

Well a draw seems out of the question, so this could get very exciting
  • Good stat from cricinfo.

England's score in the first sessions of this Test is 246/16 - 82/4 on Day 1, 101/5 on Day 2 and 63/7 on Day 4.

In the other sessions of the day they are 394/2
  • Proper test match!!
  • Good partnership this

I was expecting England to bat until tea at least today, with me shouting at the tv urging a declaration. So all in all I'm quite happy as it has turned out .331 should be plenty.
  • I'll see how things are a the close of play, but I might take a trip up to Lords tomorrow. Could be a great day's play
  • Superb start, Saffers 16-2
