Players get released, while others get signed and sometimes I scratch my head and wonder why.
The majority of times, the club's judgement is correct. Not always though, but overall the academy coaches and managers know what they are doing (the nonsense at our club hasn't really affected Steve Avory and his team a great deal, they've more or less been left to get on with it)
Sam Bone was released by the Club because they thought he wasn't good enough.
So he was good enough to play in that Youth final at Brentford(Lookman, Hanlan, konsa ETC) which Charlton won as a 16 year old ( the youngest CAFC player i believe) but not good enough to be kept on ? Sounds like more Bullshit from the club.
I tend to believe there was a fall out with a parent.
Terrible logic. Not every player in a team is as good as the others or kicks on as they grow.
You say "etc" but who were the other players and where are they are now?
Terrible logic !
For your information Henry. From memory:
Tueday May 12th. 2015 Play off final
Brentford 0 CAFC 1 U18
Mitov Barnes Edwards Bokciu Konsa Charles-Cook Bone Lapsie Hanlan Umerah and Lookman.
So Henry if you care to check your own info on players comings and goings you will see that nearly all that team is still connected with Charlton other than Lookman who has gone on to bigger and better things. Bokciu may have disappeared but Sam Bone who was the youngest member of that team only 18 months ago; Left the club.
Just hearing about the lad's illness may have clouded the issue as it could have started to affect his fitness in the latter stages of his Charlton Athletic Career.
Sam has the talent. Trust me if you never saw him play.

Except for the fact he was a key part of that team all year despite being 2 years younger than the next youngest regular. And 3/4 years younger than a number of other players.
Which play was he 3/4 younger than? Bokciu, Maloney, Carey and Bone from that team also released. Kelly played one game less than Bone and was released.
I've no idea why he wasn't kept on but he didn't join another club

Konsa was the best player on the pitch that day. Looked the real deal
In seeing Sam Bone last year against Millwall in the FA Youth Trophy for the U-18s he didn't look like a world beater. Looked solid, took up good positions, but felt he underhit his passes too often which slowed the whole play down. Didn't really provide any penetrative passing when Millwall sat deep and gave him time and space, although there's an argument that in that holding role it's not necessarily his job. Thought a lot of others outshone him on the day and he was 17/18.
That said, it was only one game.
SoapBoxSam brings up a very salient point which is that cancer could have started to have effects on him before it was discovered, potentially long before it was discovered. In hearing from cancer survivors in my life, I've been told it can affect all kinds of things from motor skills to mental state.
Regardless of what happened when he was here, I hope he is well now.

Trying to work out if Anderson is also still with the club. It doesn't look like either have played in a while.
He's been in trial with them since being released according to the team talk Twitter account.
