  • i never get where this cult status comes from he was hardly prolific 1 goal in 5 games.
  • Terry Hurlock and Pat Ven Den C%*t due to follow.

FFS, if they're gonna sign past-it has-beens they could at least provide us with some amusement by bringing in Roger Johnson. His linguistic skills would fit in perfectly down at The Toolbox.

Problem is they are consolidating their Championship status. I can’t see Cahill having an impact on the pitch but around the dressing room and training ground he’s going to be important. Just like Jacko is for us.

Think he has been a cracking player over the years, about 10 years spent playing in the Premiership when the Premiership was the best league in the world. Best player I can remember that they've produced. Good signing for them.

    Teddy Sherringham all day long.

he was 17/18 when they signed him so didn't quite "produce" him
  • Seems like a move only happening because of his friendship with Harris and harris wanting him to go to World Cup

He is 38, he left a team in Australia because he wasnt getting enough game time,
  • One if the best players we almost signed

Yep but that great judge Murray called his bluff thinking he wouldn't move up north ....

Was a helluva player for both them and Everton not to mention his country

I thought it was Palace he was set to join but his missus insisted they went oop North for 'ahem' personal reasons

    He was a midfielder.

Are you saying the likes of Kinsella, Johnny Robinson, Jensen or even a striker like Leaburn aren't cult heroes because they didn't score loads?
  • Even bad players become cult heroes.
  • Potentially a fantastic signing. The boost it will give the squad will be brilliant. His experience will be invaluable in pretty much all areas.

If he can add 5-10 goals then what's not to like?
  • great signing, superb in the air.
  • I'd have it down the valley all day long

Point taken although I was too young to remember him at Millwall.

    He is 38,
What makes u think he can score 5-10, goals in half a season
He only managed 6 games for Melbourne scoring 0 goals this season before he left.

This smacks of a friend of his(harris) trying to help him get to the World Cup, if Harris was not manager do you think u would be getting him if anyone else was nanager

Is he? Blimey, time flies. I thought we were signing him in his prime.

I didn't say that he would, or even could, score 5-10 goals. I said 'if'.

Cahill's attachment is with the club, not the manager. This isn't Harris trying to get his mate to a World Cup. This is Cahill himself trying to get to a World Cup.

I can't comment on another 'nanager' and whether or not he'd sign, but I will say that he's always held a torch for us and never misses an opportunity to thank the club that gave him his break in the game.

Now, chill your beans and try and be happy for us if this does come off.

my beans are very chilled thanks

All i am saying is a couple of years ago he would have been a decent signing.

But at his age I dont think he will be the player u all want him to be.

If he couldnt get into a squad playing in The Australian A League, what makes u think he will get in yours
  • I can't see Cahill having that much of an impact on the pitch, but I can see the attractions for both parties. He'll be great for the younger players off the pitch, and will keep himself sharper for the World Cup than we would back home

I don’t think he’s being signed to come straight into the team. As already said his experience and influence can’t be underestimated to the squad. What a good player to come on off the bench to steady the ship in a team looking to consolidate their Championsgip status.

Hope he’s a complete flop for them but I can’t see a big downside from their point of view.

The further you go back, up to a point, the better a signing he would have been, granted. I don't know, or watch, enough A-League football to know why he wasn't in the squad on a regular basis. Cahill thrives on service. Did Melbourne play to his strengths? If not then an argument could be made for him not fitting into their style of play. Maybe they don't play with wingers looking to hit the line and get crosses into the box. We do at the moment and he would fit in quite nicely, albeit probably as an impact sub in midfield or rotating with one of the strikers.

He may not be the player he once was. In fact I can pretty much guarantee he wont be. However, don't be under any illusions that we believe he will be as he was in his first stint with us.

Of course there's a large degree of sentiment around the possibility of him signing but, rest assured, Harris wouldn't risk the current squad harmony/togetherness if he didn't think that Sir Tim was able to do a job.
  • Dirty cheating muggy cnut AND a very good footballer. Perfect for the Spanners and bad luck to both parties...

I know nothing about his Australian team and who was playing ahead of him BUT, I do think it's not a bad signing.

He knows the club and English football, he knows there is nowhere to hide on a cold Tuesday night in preston so I don't think he's expecting any favours as he knows the crowd wouldn't stand for it.

Good signing for Miiiiiiiiiiiii and wouldn't be surprised to see him coaching there when he hangs his boots up.

  • I know I saw Ross McCormack playing for Melbourne on the box when I was out there couldn’t believe it , so Googled and he had some falling out with Bruce
  • Class act all round is Timmy, fair play to Millwall for bringing him back.

God I hate our club, we're so bloody joyless.
