Thought he wanted to speak to the fans? Seems more interested in speaking to the press at the moment and defending the owners. That's all fine and understandable but he might want to focus on sorting the team out and getting us in the playoff positions, that's all he should be judged on, not whether he likes RD or if he's great in a press conference. I've heard enough bullshit over the last 3 years at Charlton to last a lifetime, if they want to turn a corner then get the f**k on with it and stop the PR crap. Good luck to him.
So Robbo has been told Lookman is going to Liverpool in January?? Welcome to the network and that unique football experience Pinnocchio spelt out in Dublin " customers, watching the Premier League players of the future".
Fascinating interview. You can see him getting lots of airtime as he is a gift to interviewers with his stories.
I really like the detail he gives on tactics etc. Not that I think Slade or other managers don't know the same but they rarely talk about it in public as if that's not for fans.
I am trying to believe in all this and I GENUINELY hope I am wrong here and that Karl makes me eat these words, but it all sounds like a load more B/S to me. Same story, different cover, we've been here before, that's how I'm feeling. But let's see what happens on the pitch.

Talks the talk. Can he walk the walk?
I haven't watched it yet - does he talk about how 4 4 2 can become 4 1 2 1 2 with a diamond in the middle? I'd like to know more about that cutting edge tactic.
It's one thing to know a talented young player is to be sold in the next transfer window, but is it necessary for a manager do a sales pitch live on national radio?

Surely it's the manager's job to make training challenging?

Lookman is always going to move on at some stage even if we were to manage successive promotions and get to the PL. His talent, if he can use it effectively week in, week out, deserves a bigger stage. The big issue is who is going to take the chance in buying him now and how much can we get out of the deal. Personally, if I was Lookmans agent I'd tell him to stay put until the end of the season. If Charlton put in a push for promotion his own value will soar from the exposure that will come with it and he's more likely to get a better deal and game time when he moves on. If he moves in January he's going to be on 'improved' wages and occasional bench time if he's lucky.

We'd be mad to sell him in January. If RD has any real aspirations for promotion, we should be building the team around our best players, and surely Lookman is one of them. I'm not sure from what I've seen that he's quite as good as we think is, and I am not really convinced that any of the Prem big boys are convinced either.

Not true, the prem big boys are interested. He is one of the most promising English players of his age in the Country. Whether the big boys will pay the asking price and loan him back to us for the rest of the season is debatable. Steve Walsh of Everton is very interested. But again the stumbling block is the loan back. But we can all rest easy because Meire said that he wouldn't be sold in the January window.

Palace (OK not Prem big boys) were willing to take a £6m punt on him. Not quite small change and we know that Pardew wastes money but a decent size amount of dosh.
£10m and a loan back and I think he'll be sold.
In a period when Palace pay £30m on a striker is £10m that much of a risk for Everton?
IMHO the blokes a complete media tart if he gets results fantastic but you don't get results on hollow statements, loosing key players at key times (lookman in Jan) and with a shit owner.
He's getting fans to feel positive but will we go into February with a stronger squad and can he get results? He left MK Dons in the bottom half of this division. Attacking football alone won't guarantee better results.
The runes are telling me (well the press reports actually) he will be sold in Jan. 7 to 8 mill'n I guess, doubt we will get the loan back listening to our manager. Just as important are the add on's.
I doubt any premier club would loan a player back if they pay £8m. Perhaps the sticking point. The deal could be a choice between a big fee and no loan or less but with a loan back.
The key in all this is not if Lookman is sold because of course he will be at some point in the near future, it's whether or not they let KR use any of the funds to strengthen the team. Yet to be convinced that will happen. Maybe Bevington will be able to clarify it for us.

Sharp end of the season approaching with the team five places from the playoffs. I think RD knows that he has to invest in January otherwise this season will just drift away. I think money will be available to Robinson regardless of any sale of Lookman but I wouldn't expect any money made specifically from Lookman to add to the already agreed budget other than a relatively small amount as a replacement is needed if a loan back were not to happen.

Next five league games will tell us if we will even be in with a shout of the play offs. Peterbough and Bristol Rovers at home, Millwall, Southend and MKD away. Three of those teams are currently above us, Millwall have the hoodoo on us and MKD won today under a new Manager. By Jan 2nd we will have a better clue as to where our season is heading and whether RD will spend.
In my opinion Lookie will go and with the Club on the verge of a sale (its the hope that kills you) Roland won't back Robinson in the market. Expect at least another season of turgid League One football.

Completely agree, it will already be part of an agreed player sales budget for the season. Why would he be loaned back when the training and games are no longer challenging? Players have always been sold at a premium in the winter transfer window and even our incompetent SMT must realise this.

RD knows that he has to get Charlton back into the championship. No money to be made even as a player farm down amongst the dead men in league one. He will give KR money in January. Of that I have no doubt.

Don't think selling is even on his radar.
What makes you think that about giving him money in January? I like your optimism but I'm finding it hard to see it happening. It costs more in January market than summer and the track record from our mob is woeful. I'd be surprised if we spend that much, hopefully KR can pick a couple up in midfield that can improve us. I hope you're right though.
Regarding selling, I really have no idea but they're hardly gonna make it known they are trying to sell. There are rumours from another thread that a company has been instructed to look for a sale but then the hiring of an up and coming manager seems at odds with that, the whole thing is baffling.

Yeah i doubt we'll get a loan back. I don't think Lookman is ready for the premier league but if you'd just bought him for 7-8m you wouldn't stick him back in league one. You'd be looking to loan him to a top half championship side.
I'd like to think we won't sell him in January, i think we should get a bidding war going in the summer. However i just can't see RD saying 'here's 2-3m Karl, get that team strengthened' unless it's money that comes from a Lookman sale. I hope i'm wrong though.
If Lookman goes, which was and is always a possibility, it is about what comes in to replace him. If we lose him but can strengthen in 3 or 4 positions, we benefit. In the short term at least. Big if with this lot though - masive if actually! Robinson has a key part to play.
